4 IntroductionIntroductionThe Bluetooth™ headset HBH-60 is a portable headset solution based on Bluetooth wireless technology.See “Guidelines for safe and efficient use” on page 14 and “Limited Warranty” on page 15 before using your headset.What is Bluetooth wireless technology?The Bluetooth wireless technology makes it possible to connect any compatible portable and stationary communications device without using cables. The technology is based on a radio link that offers fast and reliable transmission of voice and data information. It does not require a line-of-sight connection in order to establish communication. Bluetooth wireless technology uses a globally available frequency range intended to ensure communication compatibility worldwide.How can I use my headset?You can connect your HBH-60 headset to your mobile phone or PC – or any device with Bluetooth wireless technology that supports the Headset profile or the Handsfree profile. This user’s guide focuses on how to use the headset with your mobile phone. You need to have a phone with built-in Bluetooth capability, or a phone with a Bluetooth adapter connected to it. When the headset is connected to your mobile phone, you can use voice control to make calls (if your phone supports this function). The phone can be tucked away in your pocket or in a bag. 6 Headset overviewGetting startedBefore you can use your headset, you must first:• Charge the headset battery, using an appropriate Sony Ericsson charger.• Pair the headset with a device, for example, a mobile phone.Compatible Sony Ericsson or Ericsson chargers:• Travel Charger CTR-10• Standard Charger CST-13• Cigarette Lighter Adapter CLA-11ChargingThe headset comes with a built-in rechargeable battery. We recommend that you charge the battery until the headset indicator light turns green before using the headset for the first time. During charging, the indicator light shows a steady red light if the headset is turned off, and flashes red if the headset is on.When the battery is fully charged, the indicator shows a steady green light if the headset is off, or a flashing green light if the headset is on.To charge the battery1. Connect the charger to the headset and to the mains. The flash symbol on the charger plug must face upwards.2. It takes 1 to 1.5 hours to fully recharge the battery.3. Note: The first time the headset is turned on, it might automatically be ready for pairing.To turn the headset off• Press and hold the call handling button until you hear a short high tone followed by a short low tone. The headset indicator light switches off.Pairing the headset with a phoneYou pair the headset with the phone by adding it to a list of paired devices in the phone. The two devices then recognize each other when they connect. Once you have paired your headset with the phone, you do not need to pair it again until you want to use it with another device.To pair the headset with a Sony Ericsson or Ericsson phone1. With the headset turned off, press and hold the call handling button for up to 10 seconds until the indicator light on the headset flashes green and red.2. In the phone, scroll to Extras or Connect, YES, Bluetooth, YES, Paired devices, YES, Add device, YES, Phone initiates, YES.3. A list of device types that you can pair with your phone appears. Prepare your phone according to the phone’s user documentation on pairing.2. Press the call handling button for up to 10 seconds until the indicator light on the headset flashes green and red. The headset is now ready for pairing.3. Continue according to the instructions in the phone’s user documentation. The headset passkey is 0000.Putting on the headset1. Using the headset 9To adjust the ear hook for left-ear use: Using the headsetOnce you have paired the headset with your phone, you can make and receive calls using the headset as long as it is turned on and within range of the phone – up to 10 m (30 ft) outdoors or up to 5 m (15 ft) indoors with no solid objects in between. 10 Using the headsetIf your phone supports voice dialling and it is activated, you can use this feature with the headset.The following instructions cover the use of the headset with a Sony Ericsson or Ericsson phone with built-in Bluetooth capability.Note: Always make sure the Bluetooth operation mode in the phone is on when using the Bluetooth headset.Making and answering callsPhone functionality is still available when the headset is connected. You can make and answer calls using the buttons on the headset, or using the keys on the phone, as usual. To make a call using voice dialling1. Make sure the phone and the headset are on and within range of each other. Press the call handling button.2. It may take a while to set up the connection between the phone and the headset. During this time, you might hear a repeated tone in the headset. After the beep, voice dial as you normally would. 3. End the call by pressing the call handling button.To answer a call using the call handling button1. When the headset rings, press the call handling button.Note: If the phone rings first, wait until the headset rings, then press the call handling button.2. End the call by pressing the call handling button.To answer a second call• You have to use the phone keypad to answer and handle a second call, but you can still use the headset for talking and listening. You cannot use the headset buttons during a second call. Refer to the phone's user documentation on how to handle more than one call simultaneously.To reject a call• When the headset rings, press and hold the call handling button until you hear a long beep.Using voice commandsVoice commands are especially useful when you are using the headset. Using the headset 11For more information on voice commands, refer to the phone’s user documentation.Adjusting the volumeYou can adjust the headset speaker volume during a call, or the ring volume when you are not engaged in a call.To adjust the volume• To increase the volume, press .• To decrease the volume, press .Note: The headset uses increasing volume. For safety reasons, it starts with a low volume level before the maximum set level is reached.To turn off the microphone• During a call, press and release both and to turn off the microphone. A repeated beep is heard while the microphone is turned off.• Press and release both and again to resume the conversation.Transferring sound from phone to headsetIf you make a call using your phone, you can transfer the sound to the headset if the headset is on, paired with the phone, and within range.To transfer the sound to the headset• During a call, press the call handling button to transfer the sound to the headset. The headset beeps until the sound has been transferred.If the headset is turned on after a call has been initiated, you can transfer the sound to the headset by pressing the call handling button.Note: To transfer the sound from the headset to the phone, refer to the phone’s user documentation.Lost connection to headsetIf the connection to the headset is lost during an ongoing call, press the YES key on the phone to transfer the call to the phone, otherwise the call is disconnected after 30 seconds.HBH60_EN.book Page 11 Monday, July 15, 2002 1:29 PM
12 TroubleshootingHeadset battery statusWith the headset on in standby mode, press and release both and . The battery status is indicated by one of these three signals, after an initial long green flash:• High – three green flashes• Medium – two green flashes• Low – one green flashResetting the headsetYou may want to reset the headset to its default settings. This also clears all current pairings.To reset the headset1. With the headset turned off, press and hold the call handling button for up to 10 seconds until the indicator light on the headset flashes green and red. Then release the button.2. Press and hold the call handling button again until you hear one low beep, followed a moment later by another two beeps. The headset is now turned off, and has been reset.TroubleshootingNo sound contact between headset and phoneThe headset and the phone you are using with it have to be paired to recognize each other.They also have to be within range of each other. Make sure that there are no solid objects, such as walls or furniture, in between the headset and the phone.The indicator light flashes redThis indicates that the headset has only limited talk and standby time left. Charge the headset battery for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.The indicator light flashes green twiceIn standby mode, the indicator light might flash green twice rapidly at intervals of approximately 3 seconds.This indicates that there is no mobile network within range. Troubleshooting 13No indication of charging is shownIf you charge a headset battery that is empty, or has not been used for a long time, it may take up to 30 minutes before a light to indicate charging (a steady red light) appears.Some functions do not work according to the instructionIf you notice that you cannot make use of all the features in the HBH-60 headset, please refer to the phones´s user documentation, or check with an Sony Ericsson service partner. For information about support and for User’s guides for Ericsson, Sony and Sony Ericsson mobile phones, see http://www.SonyEricsson.com/supportThe headset is automatically switched offThere are two reasons why the headset might be switched off automatically:• The battery is too low. The indicator light on the headset flashes red and you hear a low beep. Charge the headset battery for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.• The headset has been exposed to extreme temperatures. Let the headset rest for a while in room temperature, then turn it on again.• The headset has been in pairing mode for more than 10 minutes.Voice commands not working properlyIf you fail using the voice commands you have recorded through your phone, record them through the headset instead. When in operation, it communicates with a Bluetooth equipped mobile device by receiving and transmitting radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic fields (microwaves) in the frequency range 2400 to 2500 MHz. The output power of the radio transmitter is low, 0.001 watt.Your Bluetooth headset is designed to operate in compliance with the RF exposure guidelines and limits set by national authorities and international health agencies when used with any compatible Sony Ericsson or Ericsson mobile phone.DrivingCheck the laws and regulations on the use of mobile phones and hands free equipment in the areas where you drive. Always give full attention to driving and pull off the road and park before making or answering a call if driving conditions so require.RF energy may affect some electronic systems in motor vehicles such as car stereo, safety equipment etc. Check with your vehicle manufacturer's representative to be sure that your mobile phone or Bluetooth headset will not affect the electronic systems in your vehicle.Electronic equipmentMost modern electronic equipment is shielded from RF energy. However, certain electronic equipment is not, therefore:Do not use your Bluetooth headset near medical equipment without requesting permission. If you are using any personal medical devices, e.g. a pacemaker or a hearing aid, please read in your mobile phone's User's Guide for further information.AircraftTurn your Bluetooth headset OFF before boarding any aircraft. Additional information 15Blasting areasTurn off all your electronic devices when in a blasting area or in areas posted turn off two-way radio to avoid interfering with blasting operations. Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set off explosives.Potentially explosive atmospheresTurn off your electronic device when in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere. It is rare, but your electronic device could generate sparks. Sparks in such areas could cause an explosion or fire resulting in bodily injury or even death. Areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere are often, but not always, clearly marked. Power supplyConnect the AC power adapter only to designated power sources as marked on the product.To reduce risk of damage to the electric cord, remove it from the outlet by holding onto the AC adapter rather than the cord.Make sure the cord is positioned so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.To reduce risk of electric shock, unplug the unit from any power source before attempting to clean it. The AC power adapter must not be used outdoors or in damp areas. DANGER – Never alter the AC cord or plug. If the plug will not fit into the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Improper connection can result in risk of electric shock.PlacingSony Ericsson recommends that the Bluetooth headset is worn in positions where it will not be subject to pressure since such pressure may result in bodily injury or damage to the product.ChildrenDo not allow children to play with your Bluetooth headset since it contains small parts that could become detached and create a choking hazard.Emergency callsIMPORTANT!This Bluetooth headset and the electronic device connected to the hands- free operate using radio signals, cellular and landline networks as well as user-programmed functions, which cannot guarantee connection under all conditions. Therefore you should never rely solely upon any electronic device for essential communications (e.g. medical emergencies). Remember, in order to make or receive calls, the hands-free and the electronic device connected to the hands free must be switched on and in a service area with adequate cellular signal strength. Emergency calls may not be possible on all cellular phone networks or when certain network services and/or phone features are in use. Check with your local service provider.Battery informationA rechargeable battery has a long service life if treated properly. A new battery or one that has not been used for a long period of time could have reduced capacity the first few times it is used.Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures, never above +55°C (+131°F). For maximum battery capacity, use the battery in room temperature. If the battery is used in low temperatures, the battery capacity will be reduced.The battery can only be charged in temperatures between +10°C (+50°F) and +45°C (+113°F).Recycling the battery in your Bluetooth headsetThe battery in your Bluetooth headset must be disposed of properly and should never be placed in municipal waste. Wir empfehlen das Laden des Akkus, bis die Anzeigelampe am Headset grün leuchtet, bevor Sie das Headset erstmals benutzen. Während des Ladens leuchtet die Anzeigelampe bei ausgeschaltetem Headset ständig rot, bei eingeschaltetem Headset blinkt sie rot.Ist der Akku vollständig geladen und das Headset ausgeschaltet, leuchtet die Anzeigelampe ständig grün, bei eingeschaltetem Headset blinkt sie grün.So laden Sie den Akku:1.
