It's free, and the installation files arealready saved on your new phone. PC Companionalso offers a range of other features, including helpto update your phone software.To install PC Companion1New phone: Turn on your new Android™ phoneand connect it to a PC using a USB cable.2New phone: Tap Install to install PC Companionon the PC.3Computer: If a popup window appears, selectRun Startme.exe. In the new popup window thatappears, click Install to start the installation andthen follow the instructions to complete theinstallation.To transfer contacts to your new phoneusing PC Companion1Make sure that PC Companion is installed onyour PC.2Open the PC Companion program on the PC,then click Contacts Setup and follow theinstructions to transfer your contacts.Finding your wayHome screenYour phone Home screen is the equivalent of thedesktop on a computer. You can customise yourHome screen with widgets, shortcuts, folders,themes, wallpaper and other items.The Home screen extends beyond the regularscreen display width, so you need to flick left orright to view content in one of the screen's fourextensions.The items in the bar at the bottom of the screen arealways available for quick access.To go to the Home screen•Press  .To browse the Home screen•Flick right or left.To change your Home screen wallpaper1From your Home screen, press   .2Tap Wallpaper, then select an option.WidgetsWidgets are small applications that you can usedirectly on your Home screen. For example, theMusic player widget allows you to start playingmusic directly.Some widgets are resizable, so you can expandthem to view more content or shrink them to savespace on your Home screen.Application screenThe Application screen, which you open from yourHome screen, contains the applications that comeinstalled with your phone as well as theapplications you download.The Application screen extends beyond the regularscreen width, so you need to flick left and right toview all content.
To open the Application screen•From your Home screen, tap  .To open an application•From your Home screen or the Applicationscreen, tap the application.ApplicationsAn application is a phone program that helpsyou perform a task. For example, there areapplications to make calls, take photos anddownload more applications.Status and notificationsThe status bar at the top of your screen showswhat's going on in your phone. For example,new message and calendar notifications appearhere.A notification light also gives you battery statusinformation and some notifications. Forexample, a flashing blue light means there is anew message or a missed call. The notificationlight may not work when the battery level is low.Checking notifications andongoing activitiesYou can drag down the status bar to open theNotification panel and get more information. Forexample, you can use the panel to open a newmessage or view a calendar event. Todelete a number, tap  .To end a call•Tap End call.To answer a call•Drag   to the right across the screen.Multimedia and textmessagingTo create and send a message1From your Home screen, tap  , then find andtap  .2Tap New message.3Tap Write message and enter your message text.4To add a recipient, tap Add recipient, then selecta contact or enter the full number manually.5If you want to add a media file, tap   and selectan option.6If you want to add or remove recipients beforesending the message, press  . To add arecipient, tap Add recipient. To remove arecipient, tap Edit recipients and tap   next to arecipient field. When you are finished, tap Done.7To send the message, tap Send.TroubleshootingMy wired headset does notwork•Make sure the wired headset that you are usingcomplies to the CTIA standard.
