A range of Google™ applications and services is available on your devicewhen you purchase it, for example, Gmail™, Google Maps™, YouTube™ and GooglePlay™, the online store for downloading Android™ applications. To get the most outof these services, you need a Google™ account. Or you can go online and create an account at www.google.com/accounts.Charging your device only when the USB port is dryYour device has an embedded, rechargeable battery that should be replaced only bySony or an authorised Sony repair centre. You should never try to open or take apartthis device yourself. Opening the device can cause damage that will void yourwarranty.The battery is partly charged when the device is shipped from the factory. Dependingon how long your device has been in the box before you purchased it, the batterylevel may be quite low. It is therefore recommended that you change the battery forat least 30 minutes before starting up your device for the first time. your device while it is charging. Read more about the battery and how to improve theperformance in Battery and power management on page 120.After using your device under water or when the USB port gets wet, you must wait until theUSB port gets dry and then charge your device. You can try the following methods to dry theUSB port:•Wait for the USB port to dry naturally.•Shake out the water drops out from the USB port of your device after using underwater and then use a dry cloth to wipe out the water.To charge your device1Plug the charger into a power outlet.2Plug one end of the USB cable into the charger (or into the USB port of acomputer).3Plug the other end of the cable into the micro USB port on your device, withthe USB symbol facing up. The notification light illuminates when chargingbegins.4When the device is fully charged, disconnect the cable from your device bypulling it straight outwards. Make sure not to bend the connector.The USB cable will not go all the way inside the USB port. You can stop the scrollingmovement by tapping the screen.Locking and unlocking the screenWhen your device is on and left idle for a set period of time, the screen darkens tosave battery power and locks automatically. This lock prevents unwanted actions onthe touchscreen when you are not using it. When you buy your device, a basic screenswipe lock is already set. This means that you have to swipe upwards on the screento unlock it. Within each mode, you can determine how and when notifications caninterrupt you, if at all. For example, you can set your device to only show you prioritynotifications during the hours you’re at work or block all notifications while you aretaking a nap. You can get quick access to the basic interruption and sound settingsby pressing the volume key up or down.1Silent – All interruptions get blocked, including alarms. Restarting and resettingYou can force your device to restart or shut down in situations where it stopsresponding or won't restart normally. No settings or personal data get deleted.You can also reset your device to its original factory settings, with or without deletingsome of your personal data, such as music and pictures. This action is sometimesnecessary if your device stops functioning properly, but note that if you want to keepany important data, you have to first back up this data to a memory card or othernon-internal memory. For more information, see Backing up and restoring content onpage 123.Your device may fail to restart if the battery level is low. Connect your device to a charger andtry restarting again.To force your device to restart1Press and hold down the power key  .2In the menu that opens, tap Restart, then tap OK to confirm. Using your device in wet and dusty conditionsTo ensure the water resistance of your device, all covers, including the covers for the microUSB port, the SIM card slot and the memory card slot, must be firmly closed.Your smart device is waterproof and dust resistant in compliance with the IngressProtection (IP) ratings IP65 and IP68, as explained in the table below. To view morespecific IP information about your device, go to www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/ and click on the relevant device name.These specific IP ratings mean that your device is dust resistant and is protectedagainst low pressure water stream as well as against the effects of immersion for 30minutes in fresh (non-saline) water up to 1.5 metres deep.You can use your device:•in dusty environments, for example, on a windy beach.•when your fingers are wet.•in some extreme weather conditions, for example, when it’s snowing or raining.•in fresh (non-saline) water depths of 1.5 metres or less, for example, in a fresh waterlake or river.•in a chlorinated swimming pool.Even if your device is resistant to dust and water, you should avoid exposing itunnecessarily to environments with excessive dust, sand and mud or to moistenvironments with extreme high or low temperatures. The waterproof ability of themicro USB port, the SIM card slot, the memory card slot and the headset jack cannotbe guaranteed in all environments or conditions.Never immerse your device in salt water or let the micro USB port or headset jackcome in contact with salt water. For example, if you’re at the beach, remember tokeep your device away from the sea water. Also, never expose the device to anyliquid chemicals. For example, if you’re washing dishes by hand using liquiddetergent, avoid bringing your device in contact with the detergent. After exposure tonon-fresh water, rinse your device using fresh water.Normal wear and tear along with damage to your device can reduce its ability toresist dust or moisture. After using the device in water, dry off the areas around allcovers, including the covers for the micro USB port, the SIM card slot and thememory card slot.If the speaker or microphone get wet, their function may be impacted until the waterhas completely dried. Please note that the drying time can be up to three hoursdepending on the environment. During this time, you can, however, use otherfeatures in the device that do not utilise the speaker or microphone.
