Getting startedIntroductionYour SmartWatch 3 accessory, which is powered by Android Wear, organises yourinformation, suggests what you need, and shows it to you before you even ask. Use itto receive and reply to messages, view appointment notifications, and glance atweather updates – all from the convenience of your wrist. There’s no need to reachfor a phone or tablet as long as a Bluetooth® connection has been established withyour SmartWatch 3.Using voice commands, you can ask questions like “When is my next meeting?” or“How do I get to the train station?” and get straight answers. You can also, forexample, use the SmartWatch 3 to keep track of your fitness with daily summariesshowing your step count. And you can regularly add new apps from Google Play™ toextend functionality. Useful new apps and features are being added all the time aswell as updates to existing apps that you’ve installed. You get automatic notificationswhen such updates are available.The SmartWatch 3 works with any Android™ phone or tablet running Android™version 4.3 or higher. To charge your SmartWatch 31Plug one end of the USB cable into the Micro USB port of your SmartWatch 3.2Plug the other end of the cable into the charger or into the USB port of acomputer.3Make sure the charger or computer is connected to an active power source.To view the battery level•From the home screen, which displays the time, swipe downwards from thetop to the middle of the screen.Turning on and offTo turn on your SmartWatch 3•Press and hold down the power key until the SmartWatch 3 vibrates.To turn off your SmartWatch 31Press and hold down the power key until the Settings menu appears.2Find and tap Power off, then tap  .Setting up your SmartWatch 3For your SmartWatch 3 accessory to work properly, you must first install the latestversion of the Android Wear application on your Android™ phone or tablet and thenpair and connect the phone or tablet with your accessory. There are two ways toperform this setup. You can use NFC, which launches much of the pairing,connection and setup procedure automatically. Alternatively, if your phone or tabletdoesn’t support NFC, you can use the manual setup option. To set up your SmartWatch 3 using NFC1Make sure that your Android™ phone or tablet is connected to a Wi-Fi®network and that it maintains a Wi-Fi® connection throughout the setupprocedure.2Phone or tablet: Make sure that the NFC function is turned on and that thescreen is active and unlocked.3Place your phone or tablet over the SmartWatch 3 so that the NFC detectionarea of each device touches each other. A screen opens on the phone or tabletwhich displays a download page for Android Wear on Google Play™.4Phone or tablet: Tap the relevant text or icons on the screen to download andinstall Android Wear.5Phone or tablet: Once Android Wear is installed, open the Android Wearapplication, then follow the relevant on-screen instructions.6Phone or tablet: If Bluetooth® is not turned on, tap Turn on Bluetooth whenprompted.7Phone or tablet: From the list of available devices, select the SmartWatch 3. Apairing code now appears on both the SmartWatch 3 and your phone or tablet.8Confirm the same code on both devices. The SmartWatch 3 now looks forupdates and may restart automatically.9Phone or tablet: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.10 After setup, the SmartWatch 3 prompts you to turn on some features, such asGoogle Now and Location services, to add more functionality and improve theuser experience. If desired, follow the relevant instructions.The first time you pair and connect SmartWatch 3 with a new phone or tablet, the procedurecan take several minutes. Home screenThe home screen shows the time and date and the status of your SmartWatch 3.From the home screen, you can view cards or take voice actions.When the screen is dimmed, you can still see the time and date and view the statusof your SmartWatch 3.CardsMuch of the information that you need appears on the screen of your SmartWatch 3as "cards". Depending on the information shown, a card can be compared to anotification or reminder, an update, a pop-up message or a thumbnail.You can view cards that show the weather of the day, your daily step count, incomingtext messages and the answer to a simple question that you want to know.You can swipe through cards, that is, you can swipe from one screen to another toview more details and take actions. You can dismiss cards when you are finishedviewing them.To view cards1Swipe upwards on the screen.2To see all the text on a card, tap the card.To view a tutorial about how to handle cards on your phone or tablet, open the mainapplication screen, then find and tap Android Wear >   > Tutorial.To view details of a card and take actions1To view details of a card, swipe from right to left on the card.2To take an action, tap one of the available actions on a card. For example, tapReply to reply to a text message.To dismiss a card•Swipe from left to right on the card.When you dismiss a card, the related notification also gets dismissed on your phone or tabletat the same time, but the content itself, such as an email message, does not get deleted.To mute or unmute your SmartWatch 3•Swipe downwards the whole length of the screen until your SmartWatch 3vibrates.After you mute your SmartWatch 3, notification cards stop appearing on the accessory.Google NowGoogle Now, which is part of the Google Search application, recognises repeatedactions that you perform on your phone or tablet and displays more relevantinformation to you in the form of "cards".Google Now cardsA range of Google Now cards can work with Android Wear and appear on yourSmartWatch 3. Basic settingsAccessing settingsYou can view and change settings directly on your SmartWatch 3 via the Settingsmenu. You can access the Settings menu using the power key, voice commands orthe home screen.To open the Settings menu using the power key1Make sure that the screen is active on your SmartWatch 3.2Press and hold down the power key until the Settings menu appears.To open the Settings menu using voice commands1Make sure that the screen is active on your SmartWatch 3.2Say "OK Google". You canalso change the type of watch face that displays on your home screen.To adjust the screen brightness1From the Settings menu on your SmartWatch 3, find and tap Adjust brightness.2Scroll up or down to select the desired brightness level.To turn the Always-on screen function on or off•From the Settings menu on your SmartWatch 3, find and tap Always-on screenaccordingly to turn the function on or off.To change the watch face displayed on the home screen1From the Settings menu on your SmartWatch 3, find and tap Change watchface.2Swipe left or right to view the watch faces available, then tap the watch facethat you want to use.You can also touch and hold on the home screen to change the watch face.Airplane modeIn Airplane mode, the Bluetooth® function of your SmartWatch 3 is turned off andyour SmartWatch 3 is disconnected from your phone or tablet. However, you can stilluse some basic features. Restarting and resettingIn situations where your SmartWatch 3 stops responding, it is recommended torestart the device using the power key or the restart option in the Settings menu.When these restart methods do not work, you can force the SmartWatch 3 to shutdown. No settings or personal data get deleted during a restart or shutdownprocedure, whether it's forced or not.You can also reset your SmartWatch 3 to its factory default settings. This proceduredeletes all personal data on your SmartWatch 3 and is sometimes necessary insituations where your SmartWatch 3 stops functioning properly.To restart your SmartWatch 3 from the Settings menu1From the Settings menu of your SmartWatch 3, find and tap Restart.2To confirm, tap  .To restart your SmartWatch 3 using the power key•Press and hold down the power key until your SmartWatch 3 vibrates once andrestarts.To force your SmartWatch 3 to shut down•Press and hold down the power key until your SmartWatch 3 vibrates threetimes in quick succession and turns off.Ignore any other single vibrations or restart attempts as you wait for the three successivevibrations while keeping the power key pressed.To perform a factory data reset1From the Settings menu of your SmartWatch 3, find and tap Reset device.2To confirm, tap  .11This is an Internet version of this publication. © Print only for private use.
Using your SmartWatch 3Staying organised with your SmartWatch 3You can speak to your SmartWatch 3 to set reminders, take notes, check yourschedule, reply to a text message, and more. You can also tap the screen to act onsimple tasks that are listed in the task menu.Most of the features described above work if your language is set to English, French, German,Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, or Brazilian Portuguese. You can also use yourSmartWatch 3 to send text messages to contacts that are saved on your phone ortablet.To send a text message1Make sure that the home screen is active on your SmartWatch 3.2Say "OK Google". If the command is recognised, the "Speak now" screenopens.3Say "Send a text" and the name of a contact that is saved to your phone ortablet, then say the text that you want to send.4Alternatively, you can say something like "Text Jack I'm ready" or "Send Janea message that I'm back". In both cases, the message gets sent automatically.To reply to a text message1Select the card that represents the text message that you want to reply to.2Swipe from right to left until you see Reply, then tap Reply.3Swipe upwards and select a predefined message, or enter a spoken reply bysaying your message aloud. You can also use your SmartWatch 3 to decline incoming calls andto reject calls with a predefined message.To answer an incoming call1To accept the incoming call, swipe from right to left on the screen of yourSmartWatch 3.2Use your phone or tablet to speak with the caller.To decline an incoming call•Swipe from left to right on the screen of your SmartWatch 3.To reject an incoming call with a predefined message•Swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen of your SmartWatch 3, thenselect a message.NavigationYou can speak to your SmartWatch 3 to get turn-by-turn directions to a givendestination. You can also find nearby places or businesses and get relevantinformation about them.To navigate using your SmartWatch 31Make sure that the home screen is active on your SmartWatch 3.2Say "OK Google". If your request isrecognised, the relevant information appears on the SmartWatch 3.Viewing your journeys on a mapThe SmartWatch 3 can record where you have been and you can view your journeyson your phone or tablet using a map in the Lifelog application, which you can installon your Android™ phone or tablet.To view your journeys1Make sure that you have installed the Lifelog application on your Android™phone or tablet and make sure that you are signed into the application.2From the main application screen on the Android™ phone or tablet, find andtap Lifelog.3Tap  . Your current journey appears on your phone or tablet.4To view your previous journeys, tap Today, then select the desired date.MusicWhen you are listening to a music track on your Android™ phone or tablet (using amusic player application such as Walkman®, for example), a card representing thetrack appears on your SmartWatch 3. This music card gives basic details about thetrack and allows you to control the playback. So you can pause, play and skip tracksconveniently from your SmartWatch 3.RemindersYou can speak to your SmartWatch 3 to set reminders for events at a certain locationor time.To set a reminder1Make sure that the home screen is active on your SmartWatch 3.2Say "OK Google". If the command is recognised, the "Speak now" screenopens.3Say "Remind me" and then say what you want to be reminded about. Forexample, you could say "Remind me to run at 7pm" or "Remind me to callJohn when I get home". The reminder is then saved to Google Now and a cardappears on your SmartWatch 3 when the reminder becomes active.NotesYou can speak to your SmartWatch 3 to create notes or to view existing notes savedto Google Keep.To create a note1Make sure that the home screen is active on your SmartWatch 3.2Say "OK Google". To use this function, you must enter your home andwork address in Google Now.Tracking packagesWhen incoming notifications about the status of parcels or packages for you arereceived via the Gmail application on your Android™ phone or tablet, theyautomatically appear as cards on your SmartWatch 3.Using your SmartWatch 3 as a standalone deviceWhen your SmartWatch 3 is disconnected from your phone or tablet, you can still usesome basic features. Since voice commands no longer work after disconnection, youmust tap the screen to navigate your SmartWatch 3 and confirm actions. Android Wear applicationAndroid Wear on your phone or tabletWhen the Android Wear application is installed on your phone or tablet, you cancustomise the settings for your SmartWatch 3.To open the Android Wear application•From the main application screen on your Android™ phone or tablet, find andtap Android Wear.Selecting applications for voice actionsYou can select the applications that you want to use together with the voice controlfeature, that is, you can associate specific applications with specific voice-triggeredactions. Important informationUsing your accessory in wet and dusty conditionsTo ensure the water and dust resistance of your accessory, the cover for the Micro USB portmust be firmly closed.Your accessory is waterproof and dust resistant in compliance with the IngressProtection (IP) ratings IP68, as explained in the table below.These specific IP ratings mean that your accessory is dust resistant and is protectedagainst the effects of immersion for 30 minutes in fresh (non-saline) water up to 1.5metres deep.You can use your accessory:•in dusty environments, for example, on a windy beach.•when your fingers are wet.•in some extreme weather conditions, for example, when it’s snowing or raining.•in fresh (non-saline) water depths of 1.5 metres or less, for example, in a fresh waterlake or river.•in a chlorinated swimming pool.Even if your accessory is resistant to dust and water, you should avoid exposing itunnecessarily to environments with excessive dust, sand and mud or to moistenvironments with extreme high or low temperatures. The waterproof ability of theMicro USB port cannot be guaranteed in all environments or conditions.Never immerse your accessory in salt water or let the Micro USB port come incontact with salt water. For example, if you’re at the beach, remember to keep youraccessory away from the sea water. Also, never expose the accessory to any liquidchemicals. For example, if you’re washing dishes by hand using liquid detergent,avoid bringing your accessory in contact with the detergent. After using the accessory in water, dry off the areas aroundthe cover for the Micro USB port.If the microphone gets wet, its function may be impacted until the water hascompletely dried. Please note that the drying time can be up to 3 hours depending onthe environment. During this time, you can, however, use other features of theaccessory that do not utilise the microphone.
