The licenses for most software are designed to take awa your freedom to share and change it By Contrast the GNU General
fPubll‘t‘: Licenses are Intended to ouaranIee your freedom o share and change tree softwareflto make sure the software is free
ora is users.
This license the Lesser General Public License, ap lies to some specially designated software packagesfltyplcally librariesflof
the Free Software Foundation and other authors w o decide to use It. You can use it too, but we suggest you first hink carefully
about whether this license or the ordinary General Public License Is the better strategy to use in any panicular case, based on
the expianaiions below. _
When We speak of free software, we are referrin to freedom ot use, not price. Our General Public Licenses are designed to
make sure riat you have the ireedom to dislribu e copies or lree soitware and charge ior ttlls service it you wish), t at you
receive source code or can get it il you want it, that you can change the so are and use pieces or It in new lree programs,
and ihatyou are inrormed ihai you can do these mm s.
To protec your rights, we need to make restrictionst at iorbid distributors to deny you these rights or to ask you to surrender
theaefyrl rils. These restrictions iranslate to certain responsibilities for you it you dis ribute copies ot the library or If you
mo I i .
For example, it you distribute co les ot the Ilhrary, whetner gratis or tor a reelyou must give the recipients all the rights that we
gave you. you must make sure I at they, too, receive or can et the source co e lr you link other code with the library, you
must provide comp e obiect tiles to the recipients, so that ey can relink them wi h_ the library after making changes to the
library and recom g it And you must show them these terms so they know their rights ,
We protect your rights with a two—step method- I) we copyright the library, and (zi we otter you this license, which gives you
legal permission to copy, distribute and/or moor the library. . . .
To protect each distributor, we Want to make ltuery clear that there Is no warran for the tree library Also, It the library Is
modified by someone else and passed on,the reci ients should know that whatt e have is not the original version, so that
the origina author‘s re utation will not be aftecte by problems that ml ht be Intro uced by others
Finally, software paten_ ose a constant threat lo the existence or any rec prol];ram We Wish lo make sure that a company
cannot eftectlvely restrlc the users of a free program by obtaining a restrictive icense trom a patent holder. ThereforeJ we
tlls‘sl that any patent license obtained for a verSIon oft e library must be conSistent with the lull treedom of use specltled In
is icense.
Mosi GNU software including some libraries, is covered by the ordinary GNU General Public License This license, the GNU
Lesser General Public License, applies to certain desi nated libraries and is quite dlfterent from the ordinary General Public
License we use this licenselor certain libraries in or er to permit linking ihose libraries into non-lree programs
When a program Is linked with a library. whether statically or using a shared librar ,the combination ol the two is legally
speaking a combined work, a oerivaiive oi the original library The ordinary Genera Public License therefore permiis such
linking only it the entire combination tits its criteria of treedom. The Lesser General Public License permits more lax criteria for
linkln other code With the library. ,
We cal this license the ”Lesser" General Public License because it does Less to protect the user‘s treedom than the ordinary
General Public License it also provides otner tree software developers Less or an advantage over com eting nontree
programs These disadvantages are the reason we use the ordinary General Public License lor many ll ranes However, the
esser license provides advantages In certain special circumstances
For example on rare occasions here may he a special need to encourage the wrdesl possibleguse or a cerlain library, so that il
becomes adertacto standard lo achieve this, nonrfree programs must be allowed to use the library A more treouen case is
that a free llbrar does the same lob as wrdely used non-rree libraries. in this case. there is little lo gain by limiting the tree
library to tree so ware onl ,so we use the Lesser General Public License
in other cases, ermission o use a particular library in non-lreeenrograms enables a grealer number or people to use a lar e
body of lree so are. For example, permission to use the GNU Library in nonlree pro rams enables many more people o
use me whole GNU ogeratlnlg sysiem, as well as us variant, the GNU/Linux operailng _sys ern.
Althou h the Lesser enera Public License ls Lessrrotectlve of the users‘ treedom, It does ensure that the userofa pro ram
that is inked with the Library has the freedom and he wherewithal to run that progam using a modified version of the Li rary
The precise terms and conditions for copying, distribution and modilication lollow ay close attention to the difference
between a “work based on the librar ” and a “work that uses the library“ The former contains code derived from ihe library,
whereas the latter must be combine with the libra in orderto run
TERMS AND CONDlTIONS FOR COPVlNG, DlSTRlBUT N AND MGDIFICATlON ,
0. This License Agreement applies to any software library or other program which contains a notice laced by the copyright
holder or other authorized pany sa lngl may be distributed under the terms ol this Lesser General ubllc License (also called
”this License”). Each licensee isa dressed as ”you“ b g g
A "library“ means a collection of software functions and/or data prepared so as to be conveniently linked with application
programs twhlch use some oi those lunctions and data) to lorm executables ,
he “Library", below, refers to any such software library or work which has been distributed under these terms A "work based
on the Library" means eitherthe iorary or any‘derivalivc work under copyri nl law: that lsto say, a workcontainlng the
Library ora portion of it, either verbatim orwit modifications and/ortransla ed straightforwardly into another language
tHereinal'ter translation is Included without limitation in the term “modilication“ . . .
Source code" tor a work means the [preferred form of the work for making me lfications to It For a library, complete source
code means all the_source code tor a l modules It contains, plus any associated Interface definition flleS, ll us the scripts used
to control compilation and Installation of the library.
Activities otherthan copying, distribution and me ificatlon are notcovered biflthls License, they are outSide its scope. The act

2 Vou may modify your copy or copies or the Library or any Portion of it, thus formin a work based on the Library, and copy
and distribute such modifications or work under the terms 0 Section l above. provi ed that you also meet all ot
these Conditlons‘
a The modified work must itself be a software library
b Vou must cause the files moditled to carr‘prominent notices stating that you changed the files and the date ot any change
c You must cause the whole of the work to e licensed at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License
if a facility rn the modified Library refers to a functron or a table of data to be suppired by an application pro ram that uses
the lacility, other than asan argument passed when the lac_riihy is rnvoked, then ou rriust make a good lait e onto ensure
that, in the event an appircation does not supply such functron or table, the facrir stril operates, and perlorms whatever pan ol

r ese requirements apply to the moat le work asawhole ii identitlable sectionso that work are not derived from the Library,
and can be reasonably considered inde endent and separate works In themselves, thenthis License, and its terms, do not
apply to those sections when you distri ute them as separate works. But when you distribute the same sections as pan or a
who e which is a workbbased on the Libra ,the distribution of the whole must be on the terms ot this License, whose
emissions for other licensees extend tot eentlre whole, and thus to each and every l’tm re ardiess or who wrote it
hus, it is not the intent of this section to claim ri hts orcontest your rights to work wri en en ireiy by you; rather, the intent is
to exercise the right to control the distribution or erivatlve or no ectlve works based on the Library
in addition. mere aggregaticnol another work not based on the Library wrth the Librar tor wrth a work based on the Libraryi
on a volume at a storage or distribution medium does not bringpthe ot er work undert e sco e of this License
3 You may opt to apply the terms of the ordinary GNU General . ublic chense instead of this icense to a given copy oi the
Library To do this, you must alter all the notices that reterto this License, so that they refer to the ordinary GNU General Public
License, version 2, instead ot to this License: (It a newer version than version 2 ot the ordinary GNU General Public License has
appeared, then you can specifythatversron rnstead rl you wrsh ) Do not make any otherchan e in these notices
Once this changers made in a given copy, it is irreversible lofthat copy, so the ordinary GNU enelai Public License applies to
all subsequent co res and derivative war 5 made trom that Cory;
This option is use uI when you wrsh to cop part or the code o e Library into a rooram that rs not a irbrary
4 Vou may copy and distribute the Library tor a portion or derivative of it, under ectron 2) rn obrect code or executable lorm
under the terms of Sections i and 2 above rovided that you accompany it wrth the complete correspondin? machine-readable
source code. which must be distributed un erthe terms ot Sections 1 and 2 above on a medium customari y used for
software interchange. , ,
lf distribution of obrect code is made b offering access to copy from a designated place, then oftefing e urvaient access to
co y the source code from the same p ace satisties the re ulrement to distribute the source code, even t ough third parties are
no compelled to copy the sourceialorlg with the obntectco e. .
5 A programvthat containsvno derivative or any o ron of the Lrbrar , but is desrgned to work with the Library by bein
compiled or linked with it. is called a “worktha uses the Library” uch a work, in isolation, is not a derivative work o the
Library, and therefore tails outslde the scope or this License
However, llnkln a ”work that uses the Library” with the Libra creates an executable that is a derivative of the Library
thecause it con Bins portions or the Library , rather than a ”war that uses the library“ The executable is theretore covered by
his License Section 6 states terms for di ributlon of such executables.
When a "work that uses the Library” uses material trom a header file that is art of the Library, the object code tor the work
may be a derivative work or the Library even though the_source code is not. hetherthrs istrue is especiail significant if_the
tévo‘fk can be linked without the Lrbrary, or rf the work is rtsell a irbrary The threshold for this to be true is no precisely delrned
aw
lfysuch an object tile uses only numerical parameters, data structure layouts and accessors, and small macros and small inline
functions tten lines or less in ength), then the use of the obyect rile rs unrestricted, regardless of whether it is legally a
derivative work (Executables containindthis object code plus portions ot the Library will still fall under Section .)
Otherwrse, it the work ls a derivative ot he Library, you ma distribute the obyect code for the work under the terms ot Section
6 Any executables containin that work also fall under Sec ion 5, Whether or not they are linked directly with the Library itself.
6 As an exception to the Sec roris above, you may also combine or llnk a “work that uses the Library” wrth the Librar to
produce a vyorh containing portions ot the Library, and distribute that work under terms of our choice. rovided that he terms
ermit modification or the work tor the customers own use and reverse engineering for de upping suc modifications.
ou must give prominent notice wrth each copy ol the work that the Libfar is used rn rt and thatt e Library and its use are
covered by this License Vou must sup Iy a copy or this License It the wor during execution displays copyright notices, you
must include the copyrrght notice lort e Library among them, as well as a reference directing the user to the copy of this
License Also, you must do one or these things
aLAccompariy the work with the complete corres onding machrne-readable source code for the Lrbrary rnciuding whatever
c an es were used in the work (whic must be istrlbuted under Sections 1 and 2 above); and, ifthe work is an executable
linke with the Library, with the complete machine-readable ”work that uses the Library", as obyect code and/or source code,
so that the usercan modify the Library and then relink to roduce a modified executable containing the modified Library (lt is
understood that the user who changes the contents of de lnitlons tiles in the Library will not necessarily be able to recompile
the applicatron to use the modilred definitions)
b) Use asuitable shared library mechanism for linking with the Librar Asultable mechanism is one that (1) uses at run time a
copy ol the library already present on the user‘s computer s stem, ra herthan cop ing irbra functions rnto the executable,
andryzl wrli operate proper wrth a_ modified version or the li rary lithe user mm 5 one, as orig as the modified version is
lnte acercompatible with t e version that the work was made wi h
c Accompany the work wrth a written orlef. valid tor at least three years to give the same user the materials specified in
ubsectron sa. above, tor a charge no more than the cost of performrnp this distribution.
dLlf distribution oi thevwofk is made by otferrno access to copy irom a de5ignated place, otter eourvaient access to copy the
a ove specified materrals from the same place.
e) Verify that the user has already received a copy or these materials or that you have already sent thisvuser a copy
Foran executable, the re ulred torm ot the ”work that uses the Library" must include an data and utlll programs needed tor
reproducing the executab e from it however, as _a special exce tron, t e materrals to be istrrbuted nee not include an thing
that is normally distributed Qn either source or binary forml wit the mayor components (compiler. kernel and so on) of he
operating system on which he executable runs, unless that component rtsell accompanies the executable
it may happen that this reourrement contradicts the ircense restrrctrons of other prcprretary libraries that do not normally
accompany the operating system Such a contradiction means you cannot use both them and the Library together in an
executable that you drstribute, . . . .
7 Vou may Place library facilities that are a work based on the Library siderby—Slde in a sinfll‘e library together with other library
facilities no covered by this License, and distribute such a combine irbrary. provided that e separate distribution_of the work
based on the Library and ot the other library tacilities is otherwise ermltted and grovided that you do these two thin s
a) Accom any the combrncd irbrary wrth a copy of the same work ased on the Li rary, uncombined with any other li rary
facilities. his must be distributed under the terms at the Sections above
b) lee prominent notrce with the combined library or the fact that part or it is a work based on the Library, and explaining
where to tlnd the accompanyin uncomblned torm of the same work.
5 You rna not copy, modiiy, su license, irnk wrth ofdistrlbutethe Libfar except as expressly provided undertnis License.Any
attempt o herwise o copy modify, subircense, irnk with, of distrrbute the ibrary rs vord, and wi i automatically terminate your
