Body temperature fluctuates throughout the day and is generally lower in the morning and higher in the evening. Body temperature is also lower as one ages. An infant can have a higher normal temperature than an adult. Additionally, temperature taken at different parts of the body (oral, axilla, rectum and ear) will have different temperature ranges. Therefore, body temperature from different parts of the body should not be directly compared. The normal temperature range for the Swaive ear thermometer for different ages is shown below. Product Description Probe (1) Age (years) Range (°C) Range (°F) 0-2 36.4-38.0 97.5-100.4 3-10 36.1-37.8 97.0-100.0 11-65 35.9-37.6 96.6-99.7 >65 35.8-37.5 96.4-99.5 The Swaive thermometer app can learn each family member’s normal body temperature range and compensate for variations that may typically exist. Use the Swaive app on yourself and your family members to determine the normal temperature range. Why Use the Ear? Human body temperature is controlled and regulated by the hypothalamus in the brain. The blood flowing through the hypothalamus also flows through the ear drum. The Swaive thermometer uses infrared technology to measure the energy emitted from the ear drum and the surrounding tissue. This is safely and accurately converted into core body temperature. Button (2) Night-LED (3) Display (4) Battery Cover (5) Using With a Smart Mobile Device 1. To obtain the most accurate temperature, the ear should be gently tugged allowing a clear view of the ear drum (figure A). If the ear is not tugged, then a incorrect temperature reading could be taken (figure B). Tugging the ear straightens the ear canal providing a clear passage to the ear drum. While tugging the ear, fit the probe snugly into the ear canal. 3. For children under 1 year (older than 6 months), pull the ear straight back (figure C). For children aged 1 year to adult, pull the ear up and back (figure D). 36.8°C 34.6°C Taking Safe & Accurate Readings • Please use a new and clean hygienic cover for every measurement. • Do not use the thermometer outside of the normal operating ambient temperature of 10°C (50°F) ~ 40°C (104°F).
