The chargers designed for your mobile phone meetwith the standard for safety of information technology equipment andoffice equipment use.They should be used for this purpose only.• RADIO WAVES:THIS MODEL PHONE MEETS THE GOVERNMENT’SREQUIREMENTS FOR EXPOSURE TO RADIO WAVES.Your mobile phone is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designedand manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure toradio-frequency (RF) energy. These limits are part of comprehensiveguidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energy for the generalpopulation. The guidelines are based on standards that weredeveloped by independent scientific organizations through periodicand thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The guidelines include asubstantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons,regardless of age and health.5in designated areas. As with many other types of equipment now inregular use, mobile telephones can interfere with other electrical orelectronic devices, or equipment using radio frequency. When thephone is switched on, avoid placing it near a medical aid device, if youcarry one, such as a pacemaker, one hearing aid or insulin pump.When using the phone you should hold it against the ear on theopposite side to the device, if any.Switch the phone off when you are near gas or flammable liquids.Strictly obey all signs and instructions posted in a fuel depot, gasstation, or chemical plant, or in any potentially explosive atmosphere.Do not let small children use the phone without supervision. Do notattempt to open or repair it yourself. Use only Alcatel batteries,battery chargers, and accessories that are compatible with yourphone model. (See Accessories List, chapter 17). Alcatel will not beheld responsible if this is not respected. Do not allow your phone tobe exposed to unfavourable environmental conditions (humidity, rain,infiltration of liquids, dust, sea air, etc). The manufacturer’srecommended operating temperature range is -10°C to + 55°C.Over 55°C the legibility of the phone’s display may be impaired,though this is temporary and not serious.•BATTERY:Before removing the battery from your phone, please make sure thatthe phone is switched off.Take precautions with the battery and donot attempt to open the battery (chemical substances may causeburns). Do not pierce, disassemble nor cause a short-circuit in abattery. Do not burn or dispose of a used battery in household wasteor store it at temperatures above 60 °C. Batteries must be disposedof in accordance with locally applicable environmental legislation.Batteries should not be used for any other purpose than the oneintended. 87The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones employs a unit ofmeasurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR.The SAR limit set by public authorities such as the FederalCommunications Commission of the US Government (FCC) or byIndustry Canada, is 1.6 W/kg averaged over 1 gram of body tissue.Tests for SAR are conducted using standard operating positions withthe phone transmitting at its highest certified power level in all testedfrequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highestcertified power level, the actual SAR level of the phone whileoperating can be well below the maximum value. This is because thephone is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to useonly the power required to reach the network. In general, the closeryou are to a wireless base station antenna, the lower the poweroutput of the phone.Before a phone model is available for sale to the public, compliancewith national regulations and standards must be shown. The highestSAR value for this model phone when tested for use at the ear is0.24 W/Kg and for use close to the body is 0.74 W/Kg. While theremay be differences between the SAR levels of various phones and atvarious positions, they all meet the government requirement for RFexposure.Your telephone is equipped with a built-in antenna. For optimaloperation, you should avoid touching it or degrading it.The World Health Organization (WHO) considers that presentscientific information does not indicate the need for any specialprecautions for use of mobile phones. If individuals are concerned,they might choose to limit their own or their children's RF exposureby limiting the length of calls, or using "hands-free" devices to keepmobile phones away from the head and body. 7.2 Creating a directory fileIf you use your telephone abroad, you should store thenumbers in the directory in the international format withthe “+” prefix. (See page 19)!32If your directories are empty, the “Directory empty! Adifferent ring tone can be assigned to each family. This classificationwill allow you to easily distinguish a professional call from a privatecall (1). It is possible to screen incoming calls by family. 7.6 Temporary SIM card7.5 Assigning a ring tone to a family36•Keypress on : the SIM card you just inserted becomes yourmain card. You can create the files with up to three numbers(Home, Mobile, Office). If you reinsert your old SIM card, you willno longer find the three numbers that were formerly associatedwith the same name.• Keypress on : the SIM you just inserted is considered as“Temporary”.You will be able to create or modify files with onenumber only. If you then reinsert the first card (your main card),you will find the three number association it originally contained.OKWhen you create a file, you can include 3 different numbers (Home,Mobile, Office).If you change your SIM card, an information message will be displayedwhen the telephone is switched on.You must then decide if this cardwill become your main SIM card or if it is being inserted temporarily:New SIM(C): MainOK: TemporaryYou can assign a ring tone to a family, so when you receive a call froma contact classified in a particular family, the ring tone for theincoming call will be the one assigned to that family. An icon is alsoassigned to each family, allowing you to easily recognise yourcorrespondent’s family.
