Safety and Use
We recommend that you read thi s chapter carefully before usi ng your
modem. The manuf acturer d isclaims a ny liab ility for damage, whi ch
may result as a consequence of improper use or use contrary to the
instructions contained herein.
Traffic Safety
When driving, do not use your modem
— When switched on, your modem emits electromagnetic waves that
can i nterfere wi th the v ehicle’s electroni c systems such as ABS
anti-lock brakes or airbags. To ens ure that there is no problem ; do
not place your modem on top of the dashboard or within an airbag
deployment area.
— Check with your car dealer or the car manufacturer to make sure
that the dashboard is adequately shielded from modem RF energy.

6.
Switch the modem off before boarding an aircraft.
Switch the modem off when you are in health care facilities, except
in designated areas. As with many other types of equipment now in
regular use, mobile telemodems can interfere with other electr ical
or electronic devices, or equipment-using radio frequencies.
Switch the modem off when you are near gas or flammable liquids.
Strictly obey all si gns and i nstructions posted i n a fuel depot, petrol
station, chemical plant, or in any potentially explosive atmosphere.
When the modem is sw itched on, it should be kept at least 15 cm
from any medi cal dev ice such as a pacemaker, a hear ing ai d or
insulin pump, etc.
Do not let chi ldren use the modem without super
vision. Y our
modem may conta in s mall parts that could become detached
and create a choking hazard.
When replac ing the cov er, please note that your modem may
contain substances that could create an allergic reaction.

Always handle your modem with care and keep i t in a clean and
dust-free place.
Do not allow your modem to be exposed to ad verse w eather or
environmental cond itions (moi sture, h umidity, r ain, i nfiltration o f
liquids, dust, sea ai r, etc ). T he manufacturer ’s recommended
operating temperature range is -25°C to +55°C.
Over 55°C, the legi bility of the modem may be impai red, though this is
temporary and not serious.
Do not open, dismantle or attempt to repair your modem yourself.
Do not drop, throw or bend your modem.
Do not paint it.

This symbol on your modem means th at these p roducts must be
taken to collection points at the end of their life:
Municipal waste disposal centers with specific bins for these items of
equipment
Collection bins at points of sale.
They wi ll then be recy cled, prev enting substa nces bei ng disposed
of in the environment, so that their components can be reused.
In European Union countries:
These collection points are accessible free of charge.
All products with this symbol must be brought to these collection points.
In non European Union jurisdictions:
Items of equi pment with this symbol are not to be thrown i nto ordinary
bins if your jurisdiction or your region has suitable recycling and
collection facilities; instead they are to be taken to collection points for
them to be recycled.
In the United States , please visit www.recyclewirelessphones.org for
more information on recycling wireless products.
Protection against theft
Your modem is identified by an I MEI (modem serial number) shown o n
the packaging label and in the product’s dashboard. We recommend
that you note the number the fi

Disclaimer
There may be certain differences between the user manual description
and the modem’s operati on, depend ing on th e softwar e release of
your telephone or specific operator services.
Radio Waves:
THIS DEVICE MEETS GOVERMENT’S REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPOSURE TO
RADIO WAVES.
Your mod em is a r adio transmitter and rece iver. I t is designed and
manufactured not to exceed the em
ission limi ts for exposure to
radio-frequency (RF) energy. T hese limits are part of comprehensive
guidelines and establ ish permitted le vels of RF energy for t he general
population. T he g uidelines are based on st andards that wer e
developed by i ndependent sc ientific organ izations through per iodic
and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. These guidelines include a
substantial safety margin designed to ensure the safety of all persons ,
regardless of age and health.
The exposure standard for your modem employs a unit of measurement
known as the Spe cific Absorpti on Rate , or SAR. Tests for SAR ar
conducted us ing standard operat ing posit ions wi th yo ur modem
transmitting at it s h ighest c ertified power lev el i n all tested frequency
bands.
Proof of compliance with national regulations and standards is required
of all modems models before they can be put on corresponding market.
The protecti on of the health and safety for the user and
any other
person i s an essential requi rement of these standards or t his d irective.
Your modem is designed to meet rad io frequency exposure gui delines
both European Counc
il Recommend
ation and Federal
Communications Commission Notice (United States).
International standards (ICNIRP) 1 or European Council
The I CNIRP requi rements are ap plicable in the foll owing regi ons: Centr al America (except
Mexico), South America, North and South Africa, Pacific Asia (except Korea), Australia.

Recommendation 2 :
The SAR li mit adopted by 1999/519/EC i s 2. 0 watts/k ilogram ( W/Kg)
averaged over 10 grams of body tissue. The highest tested SAR value for
this device compliance against the standard is 1.0W/kg.
Federal Communications Commission Notice (United States):
The SAR limit set by pu
blic author ities such as t
he Federal
Communications Commis sion of t he US Gov ernment (FCC ), or by
Industry Canada, is 1.6 W/kg averaged over 1 gram of body tissue. The
highest tes ted S AR v alue fo r t his dev ice compli ance agai nst the
standard is 1.09 W/kg.
Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the
actual SAR level of the modem wh ile operating can be well below the
maximum value. This is because the modem is designed to operate at
multiple power levels so as to use only the power requi red to reach the
network. In general, the clos er you are to a wireless base station
antenna, the lower the power output of the modem.
While there may be di fferences be tween the SAR lev els of v arious
modems and at var ious pos itions, they all m eet the gov ernment
requirement for RF exposure. The modem meets FCC RF exposure
guidelines provided that i t i s used with this device at least 0. 5cm from
the body.
The World Health Organization (WHO) considers that present scientific
information does not indicate the need for any special precautions for
use of modem. If individuals are concerned, they might choose to limit
their own or their children's RF exposure by limiting the length of use to
keep data card away from the head and body. (fact sheet
n°193).Additional WHO information about electromagnetic fields and
public health are available on the following website:
http://www.who.int/peh-emf.
Note: Although no danger relating to the use of modem was ever
proved, the world health Organisation advises as a precautionary
measure to use the modem in a good way. It is also advised to keep the

IS SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING TWO CONDITIONS:
(1) THIS DEVICE MAY NOT CAUSE HARMFUL INTERFERENCE, AND
(2) THIS DEVICE MUST ACCEPT ANY INTERFERENCE RECEIVED,
INCLUDING INTERFERENCE THAT MAY CAUSE UNDESIRED OPERATION.
Your Modem generates uses and can radiate radio frequency
energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the
instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio
communications. However, there is no guarantee that
interference to radio or television reception, which can be
determined by turning your modem off and on, the user is
encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of
the following measures:
