ConditionsofUse
SwitchtheHSPAUSB‐Modemoffbeforeboardinganaircraft.
SwitchtheHSPAUSB‐Modemoffwhenyouareinhealthcarefacilities,exceptindesignatedareas.Aswith
manyothertypesofequipmentnowinregularuse,theHSPAUSB‐ caninterferewithotherelectricalor
electronicdevices,orequipment‐usingradiofrequencies.
SwitchtheHSPAUSB‐Modemoffwhenyouareneargasorflammableliquids.Strictlyobeyallsignsand
instructionspostedinafueldepot,petrolstation,chemicalplant,orinanypotentiallyexplosiveatmosphere.
WhentheHSPAUSB‐Modemisswitchedon,itshouldbekeptatleast15cmfromanymedicaldevicesuchas
apacemaker,ahearingaidorinsulinpump,etc.
DonotletchildrenusetheHSPAUSB‐Modemwithoutsupervision.
Whenreplacingthecover,pleasenotethattheHSPAUSB‐Modemmaycontainsubstancesthatcouldcreate

Proofofcompliancewithinternationalstandards(ICNIRP)(1)orwithEuropeanDirective1999/5/EC(R&TTE)is
requiredofallmodemmodelsbeforetheycanbeputonthemarket.Theprotectionofthehealthandsafetyfor
theuserandanyotherpersonisanessentialrequirementofthesestandardsorthisdirective.
ThisHSPAUSB‐MODEMcomplieswithinternationalandEuropeanrequirementsregardingexposuretoradio
waves
TheHSPAUSB‐Modemisaradiotransmitter/receiver.Itwasdesignedandmanufacturedtocomplywiththe
radiofrequency(RF)exposurethresholdsrecommendedbyinternationalrequirements(ICNIRP)andbythe
CounciloftheEuropeanUnion(Recommendation1999/519/EC)(2).
Theselimitsarepartofasetofrequirementsandestablishauthorizedradiofrequencylevelsforthepublic.These
limitswereestablishedbyindependentgroupsofexpertsonthebasisofregularanddetailedscientific
assessments.Theyincludeasignificantsafetymarginintendedtoensurethesafetyofall,regardlessofageor
stateofhealth.
TheexposurestandardformodemsisdeterminedbyameasurementunitknownastheSpecificAbsorptionRate
or“SAR”.TheSARlimitissetbyinternationalrequirementsorbytheCounciloftheEuropeanUnionat2
watts/kilogram(W/kg)averagedover10gramsofbodytissue.
ThetestsusedtodetermineSARlevelswerecarriedoutonthebasisofstandardusagemodeswiththemodems
phonestransmittingattheirmaximumpowerlevelovertheentirerangeoffrequencybands.
AlthoughtheSARwasestablishedatthehighestcertifiedlevel,theactualSARlevelforthemodemsduringuseis
generallymuchlowerthanthemaximumvalues.Infact,sincemodemsaredesignedtooperateatmany
differentpowerlevels,theyonlyusetheminimumlevelofpowerrequiredtoprovideaconnectiontothe
network.Intheory,thecloseryouaretoabasestationantenna,thelowerthepowerlevelrequiredbythe
modem.

devicemaynotcauseharmfulinterference,and(2)thisdevicemustacceptanyinterferencereceived,including
interferencethatmaycauseundesiredoperation.

modificationstothisequipment.Suchmodificationscouldvoidtheuser’sauthoritytooperatetheequipment.
NOTE:ThisequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththelimitsforaClassBdigitaldevice,pursuant
topart15oftheFCCRules.Theselimitsaredesignedtoprovidereasonableprotectionagainstharmful
interferenceinaresidentialinstallation.Thisequipmentgeneratesusesandcanradiateradiofrequencyenergy

‐Reorientorrelocatethereceivingantenna.
‐Increasetheseparationbetweentheequipmentandreceiver.
‐Connecttheequipmentintoanoutletonacircuitdifferentfromthattowhichthereceiverisconnected.
‐Consultthedealeroranexperiencedradio/TVtechnicianforhelp
TheWorldHealthOrganization(WHO)considersthatpresentscientificinformationdoesnotindicatetheneed
foranyspecialprecautionsforuseofmodems.Ifindividualsareconcerned,theymightchoosetolimittheirown
ortheirchildren’sRFexposurebylimitingthelengthofcalls,orusing“hands‐free”devicestokeepmodems

Althoughnodangerrelatingtotheuseofmodemswaseverproved,theWorldHealthOrganizationadvisesasa
precautionarymeasuretousemodemswithagoodlevelofnetworkreceptionasindicatedontheHSPA
USB‐Modemsoftwaredisplay(4to5bars).Itisalsoadvisedtokeepthemodem,duringcommunications,away
fromthebellyofpregnantwomenandfromthelowerabdomenforteenagers.
TheHSPAUSB‐Modemisequippedwithabuilt‐inantenna.Foroptimaloperation,youshouldavoidtouchingitor
degradingit.
