All Tannoy speaker systems are built to give first class service and carry a 5-year warranty. Active subwoofers carry a 1-year warranty. If the equipment proves to be defective within this period for any reason other than accident, misuse, unauthorised modification or fair wear and tear, Tannoy will repair any such defect or, at our option, replace it without charge for parts, labour or return carriage. This warranty is given in addition to the customer's statutory rights. If you suspect a problem with your loudspeakers please contact your local Tannoy dealer who will be able to advise on appropriate action. IMPORTANT NOTES Please ensure no bare wire touches the metal cabinet. Please do not attempt to remove the grilles from the products as they are designed not to be removed. The product has been voiced with the grilles on. No maintenance of this product is required. Use a dry, lint free cloth to clean the cabinet if required No loudspeaker cables are supplied with the Arena Highline speakers. We would recommend figure of eight speaker cables with 2 x 1.5mm 2 cross sectional area. 2 INTRODUCTION Thank you for selecting Tannoy loudspeakers developed in the UK by our dedicated team of design engineers. The Tannoy Arena Highline 500™ speakers are designed to blend perfectly into your room and provide a sound stage which is at least as good as you would hear in a commercial movie theatre, but in the comfort of your own home. You have a choice of speakers, mounting brackets and floor-stands to help you to get the very best sound quality and appearance. Tannoy Professional Studio Monitor speakers are used by mixing engineers, producers and directors in the creation and production of many movie soundtracks. Tannoy Arena Highline 500™ home cinema speakers are engineered with the same technology, design and manufacturing principles as Tannoy Studio Monitors to create realistic special effects with clear crisp dialogue capability. The carefully designed appearance of Tannoy Arena Highline 500™ system components allows discreet placement of the speakers giving the movie screen pride of place as the centre of the visual movie action. TANNOY DUAL CONCENTRIC™ The Arena Highline 500™ loudspeakers incorporate the legendary Tannoy Dual Concentric™ drivers. Intensive research and development has produced an all-new version of this proven technology that builds upon the legendary performance of this exclusive Tannoy driver design. The time coherent, point source and constant directivity nature of the dispersion characteristics inherent in the Dual makes it an accepted industry standard in studio monitoring. By exceeding the rigorous demands of the recording and mastering environment Tannoy can ensure that playback performance in the home, whether in two channel stereo or multi channel home cinema mode, is strictly controlled to accurately reflect the sound engineer’s artistry. In nature all sounds emanate from a single point in space. The high frequency unit of the Dual, centrally mounted in the throat of the main mid/bass driver, is so positioned as to acoustically replicate this single point source; delivering an incredibly natural sound with an incredibly wide imaging 'sweet spot' that creates an expansive soundstage with remarkably focused placement of vocals and instrumentation. TANNOY WIDEBAND™ Tannoy has incorporated its own WideBand™ technology into the design of all Arena Highline loudspeakers. Not only does this exceptional in-house technology resolve fine detail of high frequency information but it also effectively enhances the listening experience throughout the whole frequency range. The WideBand™ high frequency system creates an increased immediacy, airiness and impact making music sound more natural and true to life. Music contains transient information and rich harmonics beyond the range of human hearing for pure tones. Even bass notes have leading edge transients reaching 30kHz. Operating between the roll-off point of the exclusive Tannoy mid-bass driver unit and 51kHz, the Tannoy WideBand™ high frequency unit will accurately reproduce the leading edge of individual notes allowing the listener to experience the entire bandwidth information of instruments. In addition, the extension of the frequency response, by fully two octaves, corrects time and phase response within the bandwidth of normal human hearing. Taking these acoustical phase anomalies beyond the audible range adds realism to the soundstage through improvements in imaging and the placement of instrumentation and movie special effects. 3 SATELLITE What’s in the box? 1 x Satellite speaker 1 x Long wall bracket 1 x Short bracket with pre-fitted cap 1 x Short bracket without pre-fitted cap 1 x Bracket cap 4 x 8mm Silver hex socket fixing screw + lock washers 1 x 5mm black cap head fixing screw + spring washer 1 x Ball nosed Allen key Required but not included: Sufficient cable for your requirements Countersunk fixing screws suitable for your wall type Screwdriver for above fixing screws Spirit level 4 SATELLITE How to wall mount WARNING: It is your responsibility to ensure that the bracket to wall fixing screws or bolts and the walls themselves are strong enough to support the weight of the speaker – refer to the speaker weight specifications supplied in this manual. Particular care is needed when fixing to hollow or cavity walls - ‘'stud’' walls. Use only professionally recommended fixing devices which will spread the load of the brackets and fixing screws over an area of the wall surface when mounting to cavity walls. Pay particular attention to the possibility of electrical cables and gas or water pipes which may be present in the wall cavity or buried in the wall surface. Use a special cable or metal proximity locator to locate these obstacles if in any doubt. Before wall mounting the bracket, ensure sufficient clearance to hook the speaker onto bracket (approx half speaker length above bracket). Use a spirit level to ensure the bracket is fitted level. Mount the wall bracket on the wall with a suitable fixing (not supplied – see warning note above) Ensuring cap is uppermost, using 8mm screws and washers provided, attach bracket with pre-fitted cap to top two fixing points on speaker. The centre channel is designed to reproduce most of the dialogue or solo performances. The front left and right speakers reproduce the left/right stereo information and special effects. The rear left and right speakers reproduce special effects. Try to get all 3 front speakers equidistant from the listening position and in the same plane, for example along a back wall which may be present just behind the viewing screen or TV cabinet. ROOM SETUP The front centre speaker should be mounted either above or below the screen. It may be mouted behind a projector screen only if the screen is acoustically transparent. 15 CONNECTING THE SYSTEM TO YOUR AV RECEIVER Wire up the system connecting each speaker to the appropriate terminals on the receiver or amplifier making sure that cables connect red to red terminals (+ to +) and black to black terminals (- to - ). Please note : (+) is shown as grey, (-) is shown as white. Take care to distinguish between left and right channels and the front and rear channels, as seen from the viewing position. This is a very important stage in setting up. Getting things wrong at this stage is the most likely reason for disappointing results.
