It utilizes the USB interface and it can be easily inserted into a USB port on a computer. Through the CDMA 1X/EVDO mobile network, both text receipt and data services can be received at any time, from any location.* 1.2 Safety Warnings and Precautions Personal Use Use of RF devices, including this wireless internet modem, may possibly cause interference on electronics with inadequate shielding, such as certain electronic systems in motorized vehicles. When necessary, please inquire to the manufacturer about said equipment before using this wireless internet modem. Please note the following when using this wireless internet modem with certain medical devices, such as hearing aids and pacemakers: Maintain a distance of 20 cm between the wireless internet modem and such medical devices. Turn off the wireless network modem when necessary. If you have any other questions, please inquire to the manufacturer of the device for more information before using the wireless internet modem. Please note that use of the wireless internet modem may be restricted in locations with special requirements, such as hospitals, storage facilities for oil products, or places such as chemical factories where explosive materials are produced or processed. Please cease use of the wireless internet modem when requested. Please keep the wireless internet modem out of children’s reach. This is not a toy. Damage or injury may result from misuse. Your Wireless Internet USB Modem This wireless internet USB modem is to be used only with its original accessories, or accessories as approved by the manufacturer. Use of any other unapproved accessories may affect the usability and performance of the wireless internet modem and may violate the terms and conditions of the warranty for this product, and may violate national regulations relating to communication terminal products. Please avoid using this device near metal structures or devices that emit electromagnetic waves, as they can affect signal reception. This device is not water resistant. Please keep dry and store in a cool, dry location. Please do not use this device immediately after significant temperature changes as condensation can occur on the inside and outside of the device. Please wait for the condensation to clear before use. Please handle this device carefully. Please do not drop, bend, or strike the device, as it may become permanently damaged. This device contains no user-serviceable parts. Please do not open. Repairs can only be made by qualified professionals. Recommended operating environmental conditions: 0°C to +55°C, 5% to 95% humidity. 4 Notes for use on Airplanes Please turn off the wireless internet modem prior to takeoff. To prevent interference with the onboard communication system, in-flight use of the wireless internet modem is prohibited. Before takeoff, please use in accordance with safety regulations and as permitted by crew members. 1.3 Scope of Use The Wireless internet USB Modem supports the majority of modern computers. 1.4 Operating Environment for the Application Software Operating System: Windows XP/Vista/7, Apple Macintosh 10.4.7 and up Recommended Configuration: Intel Pentium III or greater CPU Hard Drive: 20 M or greater Memory: 128M or greater Max SD capacity is 8G. Configurations less than the above recommendations may affect the usability and performance of this wireless internet modem. 1.5 Product Features Functions provided by this wireless internet modem include: data services, application management, data concurrency capability, and additional functions. 1.6 Product Specifications Supported System CDMA 1X/EVDO Operating Frequency Band 800 MHZ and 1900 MHZ Dimensions 3 x 1 x .5 inch Weight 2 oz (275 grams) Data Rate Transfer rates up to 3.1 MPBS downlink/1.8 MPBS uplink in EVDO mode (Actual rates may vary dependent on network conditions) 2. Installation Instructions 2.1 Package Inspections Please inspect the package for the following item(s): wireless internet USB modem, pouch, USB cable, lanyard (if provided). 5 2.2 Appearance 2.3 Hardware Installation Plug the wireless internet modem into the computer: Plug the wireless internet modem into a USB port on the computer. The LED indicator on the wireless internet modem will initially turn red to note power. The LED will turn blue when connected to the network and will indicate the following status. Red: no service, modem is not connected to the network Steady blue: modem is ready for use, but it is not connected to the Internet. Quick blinking blue: modem is connected to the Internet and is active. You are using the connection. Slow blinking blue: modem is connected to the Internet, but is dormant. You are not using the connection. 2.4 Software Installation All software needed to run the modem has been preinstalled into the modem itself. No additional disks or drivers are needed. Plug the Wireless internet USB Modem into a USB port on the computer. If the computer supports automatic installation, the following installation interface will be displayed. If the computer does not support automatic installation, please execute autorun.exe from the device automatically generated by the system in “My Computer”. The following installation interface will appear and the installation will start. 6 Click “Next”. Please carefully read the terms of the agreement. If you agree, please select “I accept the terms of the license agreement”, then click “Next”. 7 Select the directory to install the software. “Change” can be selected to select a different location. Then, click “Next”. Select the Shortcut Folder and click “Next”. 8 If you are certain the installation information is correct, click “Next” to proceed with the installation of the software. After a moment, the following dialog boxes will appear and the hardware installation will begin. 9 Click “Complete” to complete the installation of the network modem application. The installer will automatically run the installed PC client. After installation completes, the “USB Modem” program group will be found from the “Start” menu “Programs” on the computer. Of which, there will be USB MODEM” and “Uninstall” programs available. A shortcut icon to the application software will also be found on the desktop. 2.5 Application Startup Applications Once the wireless internet modem is installed and properly connected, from the computer, click Start Programs USB MODEM USB MODEM to start the application. Or, directly double-click the shortcut icon found on the desktop to start the program. (The actual icon will appear different for different carriers, but will be named “Modem”) After starting, the main window for the wireless internet modem will be displayed. Click Safely Remove Hardware from the icon tray. Functional Operation 3.1 Description of the Interface 3.1.1 Main Window Image of the main window of the wireless internet modem user interface: The interface is segmented into three sections. Indicates network signal strength (from 0 to 4 bars) 3.1.2 Minimize Icon Description When the minimize button on the desktop is clicked, the program is reduced to an icon on the system icon tray. Double-click this icon to restore the interface. 1. Icon Tray Description When the application is running, an icon for said application will appear on the icon tray 2. Icon Tray Use: Click the icon tray with the right mouse button and the following will appear: Open: Enter the main application window. About: View version information for the wireless internet modem. Exit: Close the application interface and cease operation of the wireless internet modem. After this, normal modem operation will stop functioning. 3.2 Internet Connection The wireless internet modem can connect to the internet and browse websites in a EVDO/CDMA 1X mobile network. 1. Network Connection: The network service can be selected. Click the “Connect” button icon to select EVDO/CDMA 1X. During the connection process, the “Connect” button will change into a “Disconnect” button. Click the “Disconnect” button to cancel the connection. After a successful connection is made, “Connect” will appear, as well as data rate and connection time information, etc. 12 13 2. Disconnect from a Network: In the connection window, click the “Disconnect” button to disconnect from the network. 3. View Online Statistics Click “Tools” then “Statistics” to view the internet log. Online time, length, and dataflow information can then be reviewed 3.3 Receive a Message The wireless internet modem supports the reception of normal and long- and short-text messages. Click the “Tools” then “Read SMS” button to access the text message interface. 3.4 Settings Click the “Settings” icon to enter the traffic settings interface to set network traffic and network time settings. Click the “Network Settings” icon to enter the network settings interface. Select the “Settings” button to configure the network, configure traffic settings, configure 13 14 the audio options, etc. The displayed interface is as shown in the images below: Set monthly traffic, total traffic, monthly time, and total time limit notifications. Select “Save” to store the settings. Set “Message Notification Tone”. You can select the default setting or use “Choose” to select a setting. This devices supports .wav sound files. After setting, you can select “Test” to hear the sound. Select “Save” to store the settings. 3.5 Activation This section covers the activation of the unit if it is purchased thru the mail or other time that the activation has not been completed in a physical location. Once the unit has been activated, please do not press the “Activate” button.
