Important Safety Instructions:

RF Exposure (OET Bulletin 65)

To comply with FCC RF exposure requirements for mobile transmitting devices, this transmitter should only be used or installed at

locations where there is at least 20 cm separation distance between the antenna and all persons.

Minimum Separation Distance

The BT-100 (Base Transceiver) must be located with a minimum separation of 20 cm from all other radio transmitter/transmitter receivers.

The term “IC” before the certification/registration number only signifies that the Industry Canada technical specifications were met.

THIS END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT ("LICENSE") IS A LEGAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU

AND TERRADIGITAL SYSTEMS, LLC (“TERRADIGITAL”). YOU SHOULD CAREFULLY READ THE

FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS BEFORE INSTALLING, REGISTERING, OR USING THE

TERRAPLAYER DIGITAL AUDIO JUKEBOX™ (THE “DEVICE”). THE DEVICE CONTAINS

SOFTWARE, FIRMWARE, AND ASSOCIATED MEDIA (COLLECTIVELY, THE “SOFTWARE”) AND

ONLINE, ELECTRONIC AND PRINTED MATERIALS (COLLECTIVELY, THE “DOCUMENTATION”),

THE USE OF WHICH IS LICENSED BY TERRADIGITAL TO ITS CUSTOMERS AS SET FORTH

BELOW. REGISTERING OR USING ANY PART OF THE DEVICE INDICATES THAT YOU ACCEPT

THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE,

YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO USE THE SOFTWARE OR DOCUMENTATION AND YOU SHOULD

RETURN THE DEVICE UNUSED, ALONG WITH ANY DOCUMENTATION, SOFTWARE, HARDWARE

AND PACKAGING TO THE VENDOR YOU BOUGHT IT FROM FOR A REFUND. DO NOT RETURN

THE DEVICE TO TERRADIGITAL UNLESS YOU BOUGHT IT DIRECTLY FROM TERRADIGITAL.

THE DEVICE MAY ALSO INCLUDE COMPUTER SOFTWARE, THE USE OF WHICH IS LICENSED TO

YOU BY TERRADIGITAL’S SUPPLIERS (“THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE”). ACCEPTANCE OF THIS

LICENSE CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICABLE THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE LICENSES.

THE TERMS OF APPLICABLE THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE LICENSES CAN BE FOUND IN APPENDIX

B OF THE TERRAPLAYER USER MANUAL.

The Software and Documentation are protected by copyright laws and international copyright treaties, as well as

by other intellectual property laws and treaties. The Software and Documentation are licensed, not sold.

Limited License

TerraDigital grants you a nonexclusive, nontransferable (except as specified herein) license to use the Software

and the Documentation, solely in connection with your use of the Device, subject to the terms and restrictions

set forth in this License.

TerraDigital may, but is not obligated to, provide you with updates or upgrades to the Software or

Documentation ("Updates"), for free or subject to payment of additional license fees. Use of any Update is

subject to the terms of this License. By installing, copying or otherwise using any such Update, you agree to be

bound by the terms of this License with respect to such Update.

You are not permitted to lease, rent, distribute or sublicense (except as specified herein) the Software or

Documentation or to use the Software or Documentation in a time-sharing arrangement or in any other

unauthorized manner. Further, no license is granted to you in the human readable code of the Software (source

code); use of the software being restricted to its executable form. Except as provided below, this License does

not grant you any rights to patents, copyrights, trade secrets, trademarks, or any other rights with respect to the

Software or Documentation.

The Documentation may be copied only as essential for backup or archive purposes in support of your use of

the Software or Device as permitted hereunder. You must reproduce and include all copyright notices and any

other proprietary rights notices appearing on the Documentation on any copies that you make. You agree not to

remove or deface any portion of any legend provided on any Documentation delivered to you under this

License. Notwithstanding any other provision of this License, this License shall not be deemed to apply to any

other application’s software licensed to you by third parties that is included on the same media as TerraDigital’s

Software (“Other Software”) if the Other Software provides that the use of the Other Software is subject to the

terms and conditions of the third party’s license agreement (e.g., see Gracenote License Terms, below).

Further, your rights with respect to the TerraPlayer Utility Suite™ software (including associated software,

media and materials) included with the Device are subject to a separate end user license, which is provided in

electronic form in connection with the installation of such software.

All title and copyrights in and to the Software, Documentation and any copies thereof are owned by

TerraDigital or its suppliers. TerraDigital suppliers shall be third party beneficiaries of this agreement. All title

and intellectual property rights in and to the content which may be accessed through use of the Software is the

property of the respective content owner and may be protected by applicable copyright or other intellectual

property laws and treaties and subject to use restrictions thereunder. This License grants you no additional

rights to use such content.

Assignment

You may transfer the Software, Documentation and the licenses granted herein to another party in the same

country in which you obtained the Software and Documentation if the other party agrees in writing to accept

and be bound to the terms and conditions of this License. If you transfer the Software and Documentation, you

must at the same time either transfer all copies of the Software and Documentation to the party or you must

destroy any copies not transferred. Except as set forth above, you may not assign or transfer your rights under

this License.

No Reverse Engineering

Modification, reverse engineering, reverse compiling, or disassembly of the Software is expressly prohibited.

Export Restrictions

The Software, including the Documentation and all related technical data (and any copies thereof) (collectively

“Technical Data”), is subject to United States Export control laws and may be subject to export or import

regulations in other countries. In addition, the Technical Data covered by this License may contain data

encryption code which is unlawful to export or transfer from the United States or country where you legally

obtained it without an approved U.S. Department of Commerce export license and appropriate foreign export

or import license, as required. You agree that you will not export or re-export the Technical Data (or any copies

thereof) or any products utilizing the Technical Data in violation of any applicable laws or regulations of the

United States or the country where you legally obtained it. You are responsible for obtaining any licenses to

export, re-export or import the Technical Data. In addition to the above, the Product may not be used, exported

or re-exported (i) into or to a national or resident of any country to which the U.S. has embargoed; or (ii) to any

one on the U.S. Commerce Department’s Table of Denial Orders or the U.S. Treasury Department’s list of

Specially Designated Nationals.

Trade Secrets

You acknowledge and agree that the structure, sequence and organization of the Software are the valuable trade

secrets of TerraDigital and its suppliers. You agree to hold such trade secrets in confidence.

Term and Termination

The licenses granted hereunder are perpetual unless terminated earlier as specified below. You may terminate

the licenses and this License at any time by destroying the Software and Documentation together with all copies

and merged portions in any form. The licenses and this License will also terminate immediately if you fail to

comply with any term or condition of this License. Upon such termination you agree to destroy the Software

and Documentation, together with all copies and merged portions in any form.

Limited Warranties and Limitation of Liability

All warranties and limitations of liability applicable to the Software and the Device are as stated on the Limited

Warranty Card or in the product manual, whether in paper or electronic form, accompanying the Device. Such

warranties and limitations of liability are incorporated herein in their entirety by this reference.

THE SOFTWARE AND THE DEVICE MAY INCLUDE OR BE BUNDLED WITH THIRD PARTY

SOFTWARE, THE USE OF WHICH IS GOVERNED BY A SEPARATE END USER LICENSE

AGREEMENT. ANY WARRANTIES EXTENDED BY TERRADIGITAL DO NOT APPLY TO SUCH

THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE. FOR THE APPLICABLE WARRANTY, PLEASE REFER TO THE END

USER LICENSE AGREEMENT GOVERNING THE USE OF SUCH SOFTWARE OR THE

ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATION RELATING TO SUCH SOFTWARE. FOR A LIST OF THIRD

PARTY SOFTWARE BUNDLED WITH THE PRODUCT, PLEASE VISIT TERRADIGITAL’S WEB SITE

Limitation of Liability

NO LIABILITY FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY

APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL TERRADIGITAL OR ITS SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR

ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER

(INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS

INTERRUPTION, CORRUPTION OF FILES, LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION OR ANY OTHER

PECUNIARY LOSS) REGARDLESS OF CAUSE OR FORM OF ACTION, INCLUDING CONTRACT,

TORT OR NEGLIGENCE, ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE,

DEVICE, OR DOCUMENTATION, EVEN IF TERRADIGITAL HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE

POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. BECAUSE SOME STATES AND JURISDICTIONS DO NOT

ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY OF CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL

DAMAGES, THE ABOVE LIMITATION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE EXPRESSLY PROVIDED HEREIN,

TERRADIGITAL'S AND ITS SUPPLIERS' ENTIRE LIABILITY AND YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY

UNDER THIS END USER LICENSE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE DOLLAR (US $1.00) OR THE TOTAL

AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE DEVICE, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

Acknowledgment

BY USING THE DEVICE, THE END-USER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT HE OR SHE HAS READ THIS

LICENSE, UNDERSTANDS IT, AND AGREES TO BE BOUND BY ITS TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

Miscellaneous

This End User License will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois. If

any provision of this End User License is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or

unenforceable to any extent under applicable law, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent

permissible, and the remaining provisions of this License will remain in full force and effect.

This License sets forth the entire understanding and agreement between you and TerraDigital and supersedes all

prior agreements, whether written or oral, with respect to the Software and Documentation, and may be

Limited Warranty

Hardware

TerraDigital Systems, LLC (“TerraDigital”) warrants to the original end user (‘Customer”) that this product will

be free from defects in workmanship and materials, under normal use, for one (1) year from the date of original

purchase of the product from TerraDigital or its authorized reseller. TerraDigital’s sole obligation under this

express warranty shall be, at TerraDigital’s option and expense, to replace the product or part with a comparable

product or part, repair the product or part, or if neither repair nor replacement is reasonably available,

TerraDigital may, in its sole discretion, refund to Customer the purchase price paid for the product or part.

Replacement products or parts may be new or reconditioned. TerraDigital warrants any replaced or repaired

product or part, and any hardware upgrade to which Customer is entitled under an agreement between Customer

and TerraDigital, for a period of ninety (90) days from shipment, or through the end of the original warranty,

whichever is longer. All products or parts that are replaced become the property of TerraDigital.

TerraDigital shall not be responsible for customer’s information or memory data contained in, stored on, or

integrated with any products returned to TerraDigital for repair, whether under warranty or not.

Software

TerraDigital warrants to you that the TerraTouch OS™ included in the product (the “Software”) will perform in

substantial conformance to its program specifications, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date the

Software is first used by the original End User. TerraDigital’s sole obligation with respect to this express

warranty shall be (at TerraDigital’s discretion) to replace the defective Software, to replace the product or part

on which the Software is resident with a comparable product or part, or if neither of the foregoing is reasonably

available, TerraDigital may, in its sole discretion, refund to Customer the purchase price paid for the product or

part. TerraDigital makes no warranty or representation that the Software will meet your requirements or will

work in combination with any hardware or applications software products provided by third parties, that the

operation of the software products will be uninterrupted or error free, or that all defects in the software products

will be corrected.

THE SOFTWARE MAY INCLUDE OR BE BUNDLED WITH THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE, THE USE OF

WHICH IS GOVERNED BY A SEPARATE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT. THE FOREGOING

WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY TO SUCH THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE. FOR THE APPLICABLE

WARRANTY, PLEASE REFER TO THE END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT GOVERNING THE USE

OF SUCH SOFTWARE OR THE ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATION RELATING TO SUCH

SOFTWARE. FOR A LIST OF THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE BUNDLED WITH THE PRODUCT, PLEASE

VISIT TERRADIGITAL’S WEB SITE AT WWW.TERRAPLAYER.COM.

No oral or written information or advice given by TerraDigital or its dealers, distributors, employees or agents

shall in any way extend, modify or add to the foregoing warranties.

Obtaining Warranty Service

Customer must contact TerraDigital’s Customer Service center within the applicable warranty period to obtain

warranty service authorization. Dated proof of original purchase from TerraDigital or its authorized reseller

will be required. Products returned to TerraDigital must be pre-authorized by TerraDigital with a Return

Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number marked on the outside of the package. TerraDigital is not

responsible for Customer products or parts received without a warranty service authorization.

Products or parts shipped by Customer to TerraDigital must be sent prepaid and packaged appropriately for safe

shipment. Title passes at the time of receipt and inspection by TerraDigital. It is recommended that products or

parts be insured or sent by a method that provides for tracking of the package. In the United States,

TerraDigital may ship a replacement product or part prior to receiving the original product or part (“advance

exchange”). When an advance exchange is provided and Customer fails to return the original product or part to

TerraDigital within thirty (30) days from the date the warranty service authorization is issued, TerraDigital will

charge Customer the then-current published suggested retail price of such product or part.

Warranties Exclusive

TO THE FULL EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, THE FOREGOING WARRANTIES AND REMEDIES ARE

EXCLUSIVE AND ARE IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, TERMS, OR CONDITIONS,

EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, EITHER IN FACT OR BY OPERATION OF LAW, STATUTORY OR

OTHERWISE, INCLUDING WARRANTIES, TERMS, OR CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY,

FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, CORRESPONDENCE WITH

DESCRIPTION, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, ALL OF WHICH ARE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMED.

TERRADIGITAL NEITHER ASSUMES NOR AUTHORIZES ANY OTHER PERSON TO ASSUME FOR IT

ANY OTHER LIABILITY IN CONNECTION WITH THE SALE, INSTALLATION, REGISTRATION,

MAINTENANCE OR USE OF ITS PRODUCT. TERRADIGITAL SHALL NOT BE LIABLE UNDER THIS

WARRANTY IF ITS TESTING AND EXAMINATION DISCLOSE THAT THE ALLEGED DEFECT OR

MALFUNCTION. THE PRODUCT DOES NOT EXIST OR WAS CAUSED BY CUSTOMER’S OR ANY

THIRD PERSON’S MISUSE, NEGLECT, IMPROPER INSTALLATION, REGISTRATION, TESTING,

UNAUTHORIZED ATTEMPTS TO OPEN, REPAIR, OR MODIFY THE PRODUCT OR ANY OTHER

CAUSE BEYOND THE RANGE OF THE INTENDED USE, OR BY ACCIDENT, FIRE, LIGHTNING,

POWER OUTAGES, OTHER HAZARDS, OR ACTS OF GOD. THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER

PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE PRODUCT, INCLUDING CRACKS OR SCRATCHES

ON THE LCD TOUCHSCREEN OR OUTSIDE CASING. THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY WHEN

THE MALFUNCTION RESULTS FROM THE USE OF THIS PRODUCT IN CONJUNCTION WITH

ACCESSORIES, OTHER PRODUCTS, OR ANCILLARY OR PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT AND

TERRADIGITAL DETERMINES THAT THERE IS NO FAULT WITH THIS TERRADIGITAL DEVICE

ITSELF. THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY TO ANY MALFUNCTION OR FAILURE OF THE

PRODUCT OR PART DUE TO ANY COMMUNICATION SERVICE CUSTOMER MAY SUBSCRIBE TO

OR USE WITH THE PRODUCT.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULL EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, TERRADIGITAL ALSO EXCLUDES FOR ITSELF AND

ITS SUPPLIERS ANY LIABILITY, WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT OR TORT (INCLUDING

NEGLIGENCE), FOR INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE

DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, OR FOR LOSS OF REVENUE OR PROFITS, LOSS OF BUSINESS, LOSS OF

INFORMATION OR DATA, OR OTHER FINANCIAL LOSS ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION

WITH THE SALE, INSTALLATION, REGISTRATION, MAINTENANCE, USE, PERFORMANCE,

FAILURE, OR INTERRUPTION OF THIS PRODUCT, EVEN IF TERRADIGITAL OR ITS AUTHORIZED

RESELLER HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, AND LIMITS ITS

LIABILITY TO REPLACEMENT, REPAIR, OR REFUND OF THE PURCHASE PRICE PAID, AT

TERRADIGITAL’S OPTION. THIS DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES WILL NOT BE

AFFECTED IF ANY REMEDY PROVIDED HEREIN SHALL FAIL OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.

limitation of incidental or consequential damages for certain products supplied to consumers, or the limitation

of liability for personal injury, so the above limitations and exclusions may be limited in their application to

you. When the implied warranties are not allowed to be excluded in their entirety, they will be limited to the

duration of the applicable written warranty. This warranty gives you specific legal rights that may vary

Introducing the TerraPlayer

Thanks and Welcome!

Thank you for purchasing your TerraPlayer, and welcome to the world of digital audio.

Your TerraPlayer will help pull your digital audio files from your PC and into your life –

and in full color.

The TerraPlayer User Guide is intended to help you get the most out of your

TerraPlayer. Here, you will find information on setting up the hardware, using the

TerraTouch OS on the touchscreen, and using the TerraPlayer Utility Suite on your PC.

Introducing the TerraPlayer

The TerraPlayer is a wireless, network-connected Digital Audio Jukebox™ with a full-

color, graphic interface that provides easy access to your digital music collection. It frees

you to listen to digital audio anywhere in and around your home. A wireless link streams

audio files from your PC to your TerraPlayer located within a wide transmission range.

There are two components to the system: a TerraPlayer Radio and a Base Transceiver.

The TerraPlayer BT-100 (Base Transceiver) connects to either a PC (via USB

connection) or a group of PCs on a LAN (via an Ethernet connection). It transmits music

from the PC to a TerraPlayer Radio.

There are two versions of the TerraPlayer Radio. The TR-100 (Table Radio) has built-in

stereo speakers, amplifier, and an AM/FM radio for stand-alone use. The CR-100

(Component Radio) is for component stereo system to a PC.

digital audio files stored on your PC.

Both Ripper and MusicInfo, programs in the TerraPlayer Utility Suite, automatically identify and fill

out title, track, and artist information from an online data source.

When converting a CD, Ripper also automatically creates album icons by downloading cover art

The CR-100 sounds great through almost any component stereo, and has a TOSlink connector for a

high-performance, optical sound system.

AM/FM tuner The TerraPlayer TR-100 also has a built-in AM/FM radio that can be accessed using the touchscreen.

How it Works

The TerraPlayer system comes packaged with two units—a TerraPlayer Radio (TR-100

or CR-100) and a Base Transceiver (BT-100). The Base Transceiver, or Base, connects

to a single computer (via USB) or network of computers (via Ethernet). When powered

up, it checks all connected computers for available shared folders. If it finds digital audio

files in a shared folder, it stores the Music Information (ID3 tag, metadata), album cover,

and exact location (filepath) of each one. All of this information, but not the digital audio

files themselves, are stored in the Music Library on the Base Transceiver.

When a TerraPlayer Radio is powered up, it checks to see if it can communicate with the

Base. A TerraPlayer Radio and Base Transceiver must register/join to communicate with

each otehr. For packaged Base/Radio sets, this is done at the factory. This should be

done manually for TerraPlayer Radios purchased separately. You can also do this to re-

establish the wireless link when it goes down.

Once they connect, the TerraPlayer Radio asks the Base for a download of the Music

Library. The Music Library is copied to internal memory on the TerraPlayer, where it is

displayed on the Radio’s touchscreen display. The TerraPlayer Radio uses the album

cover as an icon representing the audio file(s). The information is presented in various

ways to make it easy to locate and select music by Genre, Artist, Album, or Song Title.

The actual audio files stay on your computer(s). The only time music moves from your

computer to the TerraPlayer is when the Base Transceiver transmits audio files from the

computer to the Radio during playback.

In order for the TerraPlayer to work, the computer(s) must be on.

That way, the Base Transceiver can find the digital audio files on the

hard drive in order to transmit them to the TerraPlayer Radio.

The TerraPlayer and the Internet

It is highly recommended that you have an Internet connection available to the Base

Transceiver—either through the computer to which it is connected, or over the network.

Several programs in the TerraPlayer Utility Suite utilize an Internet connection to

download Music Information and album cover icons from the web to ensure you have

album cover icons for all available albums.

The Buy Now feature also requires an Internet connection. Once you’ve marked an

album with Buy Now using the remote control, then double checked which albums you’d

like to purchase through the Utility Suite’s Librarian, the system will add those items

over the Internet to your shopping cart at Amazon for you to purchase the next time you

visit the site.

Shared Music Folders

Any folders containing audio files must be set up as shared folders to be accessed by a

TerraPlayer. When you install the TerraPlayer Utility Suite, the installation program

automatically runs the Configuration Wizard to search for folders containing audio files

and configure them as shared directories. Folders can also be manually configured as

shared.

Hint

Use the Find Music feature on the TerraPlayer Utility Suite Installation

CD-ROM to create shared folders. If you are running one of the

compatible Windows operating systems and want to create shared folders

without installing the TerraPlayer Utility Suite, you can run the Find Music

feature directly off the TerraPlayer Utility Suite Installation CD-ROM to

automatically create shared folders.

Example – Setting up Shared Folders in Windows 2000

In Windows 2000, you would select the existing folder containing the music files to be

shared, such as the ‘My Tunes’ folder shown here. Then, right-click on the folder and

select Sharing… The Properties windows will open on the Sharing tab, where you can

select Share this Folder to configure it for file sharing. This setup may vary between

Windows versions.

Connected to a Single PC via USB

The Base Transceiver has a USB port for connecting to a single PC. When connected via

USB, the PC will need to have the proper USB drivers installed. These drivers can be

installed from The TerraPlayer Utility Suite Installation CD-ROM. When you run the

installation program, it detects a Base Transceiver connected to the USB port and

automatically starts to install the USB drivers. Or, they can be installed separately using

the Install USB Drivers option.

Connected to a Network via Ethernet

The Base Transceiver has an RJ-45 port for connecting to an Ethernet Local Area

Network (LAN). When connected to a LAN, the Base Transceiver will search each

machine on the network for shared folders containing audio files. These files will be

available to and accessible by any registered TerraPlayer Radio within transmission

range.

In a network, any computer may host audio files through file sharing. A Windows-based

PC may be set up for audio sharing through the TerraPlayer Utility Suite, or manually

through the Windows operating system.

Non-Windows Platforms in a Network

Computers with compatible file systems may be used for hosting audio files to a

TerraPlayer, but must be compatible with Microsoft Windows Networking using the

Server Message Block (SMB) protocol over TCP/IP. The directory and all audio files

within that directory must then have file permissions set up to allow network access.

Multiple TerraPlayer Radios

One Base Transceiver can transmit up to three separate, concurrent audio streams to feed

up to three different TerraPlayer Radios. The Base Transceiver becomes the center of an

RF (Radio Frequency) Network, with a wireless link to communicate with all Radios.

When you add another Radio to the system, you must register it with the Base

Transceiver as follows.

When you update the firmware in the Base Transceiver or TerraPlayer Radio, or if you

add an additional Radio to a Base, you must reconnect the RF Link as follows:

1. Set up the TerraPlayer Radio and JOIN the RF Network

After you set up the TerraPlayer Radio, power it up and press the following buttons:

The TerraPlayer BT-100 (Base Transceiver) connects to the PC and transmits digital

audio to the TerraPlayer. It functions in the 900 MHz frequency band, allowing for a

transmission range of up to 500′ (typical), and is able to penetrate walls and typical

household obstacles. It has six half-duplex RF channels.

The TerraTouch OS

Introducing the TerraTouch OS

The TerraTouch OS utilizes a full-color touchscreen using album cover art as icons to

place graphic functionality at your fingertips. Searching through your digital audio

collection is now like searching through CDs, vinyl albums, or through songs on a

jukebox.

The introductory material in this section applies to the rest of this chapter. The main

controls of the TerraTouch OS break down into the following:

Modes and Views

Modes offer different functions. Favorites Mode stores your favorite selections from

LIBRARY or RADIO. Library Mode displays all of you digital audio collection in the

Music Library. Radio Mode plays AM/FM radio (TR-100 only). System Mode

controls the TerraPlayer setup. And Queue Mode is where selections are played. They

are accessed using the Mode buttons.

Views are different variations on a Mode. Individual Views are described throughout this

chapter. They are accessed using the View buttons.

Action and Soft Buttons

Action buttons will vary a little in different Modes. PLAY and HELP are always there.

The PLAY button will play a selection, and the HELP button will bring up the

TerraTouch OS Help system.

The Soft buttons will change according to Mode and View. Functions for these buttons

are described under the Modes and Views where they appear.

The RF Link indicator appears when the wireless connection between the TerraPlayer

Radio and Base Transceiver is offline. The Headphone indicator appears only when

headphones are plugged in (TR-100 only). The Mute indicator appears only when the

MUTE button on the remote has been pressed.

Icons and Music

The TerraTouch OS uses album cover art as icons representing the albums and songs in

your collection. But, everything else is also represented by icons: Genres, Artists, Radio

stations, Playlists, and Years – and each one of these can be selected and played.

There are default icons:

Custom Icons

The TerraTouch OS can also display icons of your own creation. Simply use a graphics

program to create an icon, then use the TerraPlayer Utility Suite’s Librarian program in

order to attach that icon to the artist, genre, playlist, etc. that you want.

Touch and Hold, Drag and Drop

You are probably already familiar with the term “drag and drop”—“touch and hold” is

similar. In the TerraTouch OS, you can select an album by touching and holding the

album icon. After a moment a duplicate of the icon appears under your finger, which you

can then drag and drop to various places on the touchscreen. So with the TerraPlayer,

you always touch and hold before dragging and dropping.

The example below shows how you can play a song. First you would find the song in

either LIBRARY or Favorites Mode. Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop it on

the PLAY button.

Tap and Double-Tap

Tap and double-tap are the touchscreen equivalent of using a mouse on a PC. These

concepts are used throughout the TerraTouch OS.

• Tap. To select something or use a button, tap on it once with your finger. This is

just like point-and-click with a mouse.

• Double-tap. To select and open something, double-tap on it: tap twice with your

finger. This is just like double-clicking with a mouse.

Double-tap for Music Information

You can see Music Information on any selection in the Music Library by double-tapping

on the icon. For instance, if you double-tap on a genre or artist icon, the touchscreen will

display a Music Information screen listing all tracks of that genre or artist:

Album Music Information and Buy Now

When you double-tap on an album icon, a Music Information screen will display all the

tracks on the album.

In addition, there is the Buy Now feature. If you enjoy a song or album and would like to

buy the CD, tap the Buy Now button to add the album to a list of music you want to

purchase. This list is stored in the Music Library and can be accessed through the

TerraPlayer Utility Suite’s Librarian.

Throwing a Strip or the Tuner

On a screen with a strip of icons, such as Queue, or the AM/FM tuner (TR-100 only), you

can ‘throw’ the screen. For example, you are in Queue Mode, but want to see what it

towards the end. You can drag and release quickly to ‘throw’ the Map. When you

‘throw’ the strip, Map, or tuner, it will continue to scroll after your finger has released the

touchscreen, then slow to a stop further down the strip.

Library Mode

When you first power on the TerraPlayer Radio, Library Mode will be the first thing you

see—it’s the first place to find music. It is where you can look through your entire music

collection. From Library Mode, you can add selections to FAV or QUEUE.

Library Mode can be used in one of several different Views, and each view is broken

down into Levels:

Library Views

The Library can be viewed in one of four Views: Tree, Icon, Map, or List. Each View

buttons is a different layout of your music collection. Pick one according to your tastes:

• Tree View. A text display showing only selections at the current level. Large text

makes Tree View easier to read. The only icon displayed is for the current selection.

• Icon View. A graphic display showing icons for all selections at the current level.

Space between each icon makes Icon View easier to read.

• Map View. A graphic display showing a flat map of icons for your entire collection.

It lets you see your entire collection in one View.

• List View. A text display showing your entire collection. The Select Zone, located

on the center line, is the currently selected item. The icon for this item is displayed.

Library Levels

Within each view, the collection is broken down

into Levels. Level buttons organize your music

into smaller groups, to help you search through

your collection.

The Levels fit in a hierarchy, as shown here:

• Genre Level. A genre is a type of music: Rock, Jazz, Rap, Classical, World, etc.

You can select and play any genre, or search a genre for an Artist.

• Artist Level. Within each genre, music is sorted at the Artist Level. As with genre,

you can select and play any artist, or you can use search for an album.

• Album Level. Within each artist, music is sorted at the Album Level. If an artist

happens to have an album that falls outside their standard genre, it will still appear at

the Artist Level. You can select and play an album, or search an album for songs.

• Song Level. Under the Album, the music is broken down into the Song Level.

Depending on the View, you can select and play individual songs.

No matter which View in the Library you are in, you can select music in the same ways.

Playing Music—Select Icon and Tap Play

You can also play a selection by choosing an icon, then tapping the PLAY button.

Choosing an icon varies between Views, so we’ll deal with those View-by-View.

Playing Music—Touch and Hold, Drag and Drop

At any point in Library Mode, you can touch and hold an icon, then drag and drop it on

the PLAY button to start playing the selection.

When you play a selection, it automatically bumps anything currently being played on the

queue, and you can tap Queue Mode to see what’s being played.

The Level Determines the Selection—Playing Genres, Artists, Albums, or Songs

The Level you are at determines what the icon represents:

• Genre Level. At this level, all icons represent genres. If you play a genre, the

TerraPlayer will shuffle play only tracks of that genre in your collection. For

example: if you play the Jazz icon, the TerraPlayer will play random selections from

your jazz collection. This is a great feature for setting background music.

• Artist Level. At this level, all icons represent artists. If you play an artist, the

TerraPlayer will shuffle play random track by only that artist.

• Album Level. At this level, all icons represent albums. If you play an album, the

TerraPlayer will play the tracks in order.

• Song Level. At this level, all icons represent songs—even though songs by default

use the album icon.

Library Mode, Tree View

When you press the Tree button, the Library will be displayed in Tree View. In Tree

View names appear in large print, to make it easy to read.

Think of Tree View like this: your entire music collection is the trunk of a tree, and music

branches out from that trunk. The first branches are genres: Rock, Jazz, Classical. These

split off into smaller branches: artists. Artist branches split off into even smaller

branches: albums. At the end of each album branch, you’ll find the leaves: songs.

So, in order to find the music selection you want, you’ve got to start from the genre and

branch out from there. You can always press the Genre, Artist, or Album buttons to go

back.

Playing and selecting music in Library Mode, Tree View

Remember the following:

¾ You can play genres (Rock, Jazz, etc.) at the Genre Level.

¾ You can play artists at the Artist Level.

¾ You can play albums at the Album Level.

¾ You can play songs at the Song Level.

In Tree View, you can do the following:

Open a selection to the next level

You can open a genre, album, or artist to the next level down by double-tapping on a selection.

Play music

Tap once on an icon to select, then press the PLAY button.

Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop it on PLAY.

Add to Favorites or Queue

Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on QUEUE to add to Queue.

Library Mode, Map View

Press the Map button to enter Map View, and the TerraTouch OS displays your

collection as a flat map of icons, spread out so you can zoom in/out and pan across your

collection by touching and dragging the touchscreen. The Locator Zone in the upper-

right corner shows your relative location in the map.

You begin Map View at the Artist Level, where the map is divided into artist zones

containing all the albums by each artist in your collection.

Actions

Remember the following:

¾ You can play artists at the Artist Level.

¾ You can play albums at the Album Level.

In Map View, you can do the following:

Zoom in or zoom out to find music

Locate the desired Artist Zone, then press the ZOOM IN button.

If you want to go back, press the ZOOM OUT button.

Play music

Tap the desired Artist Zone or album to select, then tap PLAY.

Touch and hold an Artist Zone at the Artist Level, then drag and drop the icon on PLAY.

Touch and hold an album at the Album Level, then drag and drop the icon on PLAY.

In List View, your collection appears in a list. You can select an artist, an album, or a

song depending on which column is selected on the touchscreen. The currently selected

item appears on the Select Zone, and its icon shown on the right.

FIND

Press the FIND button to bring up a screen which will help you search List View for a

specific name.

Find by Name

To search by name, you should first select whether the search will be of all music, or

limited to genre, artist, album, or song. Press the Find: find, and a pop-up menu will

appear of the search options available. Select one by pressing the button. For example, if

you want to look for an artist, press the ARTIST option.

Then, use the alphanumeric list at the bottom of the screen. Touch and drag the list to

pan through the letters/numbers. The highlight box in the center is the currently selected

letter/number. Touch it to select and the letter/number will appear in the Find: field, and

the list will take you to that area of the alphabet in the list.

As you add letters/numbers, the list will be resorted to hone in on what it is you are

looking for.

Playlist Mode

When you create a playlist on the computer and store it in a shared folder, the

TerraPlayer will detect that playlist and present it in Playlist Mode for you to access it.

Playlist Mode can be displayed in one of two Views: Tree or Strip.

When you press the Tree button, playlists are displayed on Tree View. In Tree View

names appear in large print, to make it easy to read.

Think of Tree View like this: each playlist branches out to the songs. Double-tap on a

playlist icon or name to branch out to the Details Level. There you can see the songs in

the playlist. You can always press the Playlist, Artist, or Album buttons to go back.

In Tree View, you can do the following:

At the Playlists Level – tap an icon or name to select, then press the PLAY button.

When you press the Strip button, playlists are displayed as a row of icons. You can

touch and drag on the strip to pan across available playlists. The Locator Bar in the lower

left corner shows your relative position in the strip.

If you double-tap on a playlist, it opens up to the list to the Details Level, so you can see

what music is in it.

Favorites (FAV) Mode

You probably have a stack of CDs that you love to listen to sitting next to your stereo.

That’s what Favorites Mode is – a ‘stack’ of the songs, album, artist, or genres that you

love to listen to. This makes it easy to keep track of your favorite music.

There are 6 different Favorites Views (FAV Views) – FAV 1-6. Each one can be used

for something else. For example, each member of the family can have their own. Or,

you can set aside one for a playlist. Each one of these view is accessed by pressing the

FAV 1-6 buttons.

In the example below, FAV 1 has been set aside for Mary’s favorites and FAV 2 for

John’s favorites. They’ve also set aside FAV 3 as a playlist for a party they are planning.

When the list gets too long to fit on the screen, you can scroll across by touching the

screen and dragging left or right. Once music has been added to a FAV View, it will

remain stored in memory even after a TerraPlayer has been powered off. The Locator

Base in the lower left shows your location in the strip.

Enter Favorites by pressing the fav button on the remote. Pres the button once to enter

FAV 1, then each press of the fav button after that scrolls through the other FAV Views.

Scrolling through selections in Favorites

When in a Favorites View, you can scroll back and forth through selections in the View

by pressing the L/R buttons. The current icon will be enlarged to indicate that it has

been selected.

Flagging Favorites

While a track or radio station is playing, you can add it to the current FAV

View by pressing the FLAG FAV button on the remote control.

For example, if you play a genre and the TerraPlayer stumbles across a song

you like, you can sit back in your easy chair and press FLAG FAV, and the

song will be there in your FAV View next time you look.

Using a FAV View

Each FAV View will be empty when first accessed—you may add Favorites at any time

as you find a song, album, artist, genre, etc. that’s worthy of “Favorites” status.

Adding Favorites

You can drag and drop any icons to Favorites from any Mode where an Icon is displayed.

Adding an icon to a given FAV View doesn’t remove that icon from the original

Mode/View.

Add to a selection to favorites

In Library Mode, find the selection. Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on FAV.

In Radio Mode, find the radio station. Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on FAV.

In Queue Mode, find the selection. Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on FAV.

You can delete favorites from a FAV view in several ways:

To remove a single selection from a FAV View

Tap the desired icon to select, then press DELETE.

Radio Mode (TR-100 only)

If you press the RADIO button, you have access to the built-in AM/FM radio. From

here, you can select and play a radio station or add drag and drop one to FAVORITES or

QUEUE.

When you touch Strip, radio stations are displayed as a row of icons. You can touch and

drag on the strip to pan across available radio stations. There is a bar in the lower left

corner to show your relative position in the strip.

Play a radio station

Tap the desired icon to select, then tap PLAY.

Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop it on PLAY.

Open a radio station to list information

Double-tap on the desired album to open the song list.

Add to Favorites or Queue

Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on QUEUE to add to Queue.

Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on FAV to add to Favorites.

Stop playing a radio station

On the TerraPlayer, press the Stop () button, then go to Queue and delete radio station icon.

List View shows a text list of all the radio stations. The center line is the current

selection, and the icon for that station appears.

Open a radio station to list information

Double-tap on the desired album to open the song list.

Add to Favorites or Queue

Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on QUEUE to add to Queue.

Touch and hold the icon, then drag and drop on FAV to add to Favorites.

Stop playing a radio station

On the TerraPlayer press the Stop () button, then go to Queue and delete radio station icon.

The FIND feature available in Library Mode, List View is also available in Radio Mode,

List View.

AM/FM Radio Tuner

The TerraPlayer TR-100 Table Receiver comes with a built-in AM/FM radio tuner. To

select stations on the tuner, tap on AM or FM to select a band, then use your finger to drag

the tuner dial left or right to the desired frequency.

1. Press the Tune button

This will access the AM/FM tuner.

2. Press the AM or FM button

Select the AM or FM button to select the desired frequency band.

3. Scroll the tuner to the desired frequency

The tuner acts very much like a tuner on an old-style car radio. Press AM or FM to select

the band, then touch the tuner and drag it back and forth to find the frequency band of the

radio station you wish to add.

If you press the AUTO SCAN button, the TerraPlayer will scan the airwaves for radio

stations.

4. Press the DONE button to close the tuner

Press the DONE button to close tuner and listen to the station, or CANCEL shut off the

radio.

Adding radio stations with Auto Scan

If you press the AUTO SCAN button, the TerraPlayer Radio will scan the radio waves at

set up icons for all radio stations that it can detect. This is also done automatically by the

TerraPlayer Radio is first plugged in.

Add an AM/FM Radio Station

1. Press the Add button

This will bring up the Tuner with add controls.

2. Select the AM/FM frequency band of the desired radio station

3. Enter the call letters or a name for the station

Use the alphanumeric list at the bottom to enter the call letters (eg. WKRP, WJNK).

Touch and drag the alphanumeric list to pan across. The letter/number in highlight box is

currently selected. Tap this once to add to Name: field.

Clear resets the Name: field.

Backspace deletes the last character in the Name: field.

4. Press the Save button to add the radio station to the Strip View

Press the Save button to add an icon for the radio station to the Strip View, or CANCEL

to close with no changes.

When you tap on SYSTEM, there are different options for configuring your TerraPlayer.

AUDIO

Press the AUDIO button to display controls for adjusting the sound coming out of the

TerraPlayer.

LOUDNESS ENABLED Check the LOUDNESS option for added presence to the audio.

AUX OUT ENABLED TR-100 only. If you are using the L/R stereo outputs to send the audio to

an outboard stereo, check AUX OUT to bypass the internal amplifier and

speakers.

BALANCE Click and drag the BALANCE slider to the left or the right adjust the

left/right stereo balance. Press the CENTER button to reset.

VOLUME Click and drag the VOLUME slider to control the output volume from the

TerraPlayer.
