EQUIPMENT APPROVAL INFORMATIONYour telephone equipment is approved for connection to the PublicSwitched Telephone Network and is in compliance with parts 15 and 68,FCC Rules and Regulations and the Technical Requirements for TelephoneTerminal Equipment published by ACTA.1Notification to the Local Telephone CompanyOn the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, among otherinformation, the US number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) forthe equipment. You must, upon request, provide this information toyour telephone company.The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you mayconnect to your telephone line and still have all of these devicesring when your telephone number is called. In most (but not all)areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one lineshould not exceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices youmay connect to your line as determined by the REN, you shouldcontact your local telephone company.A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiringand telephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephonecord and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed tobe connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. If you have questions about whatwill disable alarm equipment, consult your telephone company or aqualified installer.2Rights of the Telephone CompanyShould your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harm thetelephone network, the telephone company shall, where practicable, notifyyou that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. This systemoperates in the 900 MHz frequency range. When the RF module(packed with cordless handset) is plugged into 25413/25414/25415 models, cordless handset H5400 can work.Features:•900 MHz Te c hnology•Call Waiting and Caller ID Compatible•Tone DialingThis telephone has been designed to be simple to use, however,you can reach its full potential more quickly by taking a fewminutes to read this instruction book. This telephone is amultifunction product for use with Call Waiting and Caller IDservices available from your local telephone company.Your Caller ID Call Waiting phone allows you to:•View the name and telephone number of a caller while youare on the phone (Call Waiting Caller ID).•Identify callers before you answer the phone.•View the time and date of each incoming call.•Record up to 99 Caller ID messages sequentially ineach handset.•Know who called while you are on the line or when youwere away.•Screen unwanted calls, eliminate harassment from annoyingcalls, or to get prepared before answering a call.IMPORTANT: In order to use all of the features of this telephone,you must subscribe to two separate services available from your localtelephone company: the standard Name/Number Caller ID Service toknow who is calling when the phone rings and Caller ID with CallWaiting Service to know who is calling while you are on the phone.INSTALLATION  NOTE: Certain other communications devices mayalso use the 900 MHz frequency for communication, and, if notproperly set, these devices may interfere with each other and/or yournew telephone. IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION•Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.•Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jackis specifically designed for wet locations.•Never touch non-insulated telephone wires or terminals,unless the telephone line has been disconnected at thenetwork interface.•Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.•Temporarily disconnect any equipment connected to thephone such as faxes, other phones, or modems.IMPORTANT INSTALLATION GUIDELINES•Install telephone near both a telephone (modular) jack and anelectrical power outlet.•Avoid sources of noise, such as a window by a busy street,and electrical noise, such as motors, microwave ovens, andfluorescent lighting.•Avoid heat sources, such as heating air ducts, heatingappliances, radiators, and direct sunlight.•Avoid areas of excessive moisture or extremely low temperature.•Avoid dusty locations.•Avoid other cordless telephones or personal computers.INSTALLING THE PHONEChoose the best location to install handset charge cradle. Yourhandset charge cradle should be placed on a level surface suchas a desk or table top.CONNECTING THE AC (ELECTRICAL) POWER1. Plug the power supply cord into the power jack on the backof the charge cradle and the other into an electrical outlet.CAUTION: Use only the ATLINKS USA, Inc. 5-xxxx (black) and5-xxxx (white) power supply that came with this unit. Usingother power supplies may damage the unit.
9NOTE: The charge indicator on the handset charge cradle turns onto indicate the handset battery is chargingAllow the handset to charge for 12 hours prior to first use. ifyou don't properly charge the system, battery performanceis compromised.TELEPHONE SET UPThere are five programmable menus available: Language, Local AreaCode, Regional Area Code, Clear All Memory and Registration.LANGUAGE1. Press the MENU button once, LANGUAGE will show inthe display.2. Press SELECT or STORE to select language setting. ENGLISHis the default.3. Press < or > button on the handset to select language amongEnglish, French and Spanish.4. Press SELECT again to confirm your selection.LOCAL AREA CODE1. Press the MENU button once, then press ">"  button untilAREA CODE shows in the display.2. Press SELECT/SAVE button or STORE button to enter SetArea Code mode.3. Use the number pad to enter your three digit area code.4. Press SELECT button again to store the setting.REGIONAL AREA CODEYou can enter six regional codes.1. Press the MENU button once, then press ">"  button untilREGIONAL CODE shows in the display.2. Press SELECT/SAVE button or STORE button to enter SetRegional Code mode.3. Use the number pad to enter your three digit regional code.4. After finished to edit one regional code, the cursor will jumpto the next one.5. You can also use the number pad to enter another one.6. After finished editing, press the SELECT button to save.REGISTRATIONRegistration links the base (25413/25414/25415) to a cordlesshandset. Once a handset is registered it can use the base’sphone connection. A cordless handset will not operate until it isregistered to the base. During the registration process, keep thehandset near the base.1. Press the MENU button once, and then press ">" button untilREGISTRATION shows on the display.2. Press SELECT/SAVE button or STORE button to selectRegistration mode.3. Press < or > button on the handset to select  Yes.4. Press SELECT/SAVE to confirm. The display will show"REGISTER...".
5. On the base (25413/25414/25415), press and hold the PAGEbutton for 2 seconds. If the registration is successful, thehandset will emit a long beep sound.6. If the registration fails, "FAIL! TRY  AGAIN" will show on thedisplay. Please repeat the above steps.BASIC OPERATIONANSWERING A CALLCheck the display to see who is calling.1. Press the TALK button on the handset. The message“Cordless H/S in-use” on the base comes on whenever thehandset is on.2. When finished, press TALK to hang up.MAKING A CALL1. Press the TALK button to access an available line automatically,ORIf you want to select a desired line, press LINE button plus anumber button (1-4) to select the desired line.2. Wait for a dial tone then dial the desired number.3. When finished, press TALK to hang up.NOTE: If the line you selected is occupied by other users, themessage "LINE IN USE" will be shown. You can press the OK buttonto confirm selection of this line. If you wants to select another line,press the LINE button plus the number button again.MANUAL CHANNEL SELECTIONWhile talking, you might need to manually change the channelin order to reduce static caused by baby monitors, garage dooropeners, or other cordless phones. Press and release theChannel/Delete button on the cordless handset to advance to thenext clear channel.CALL TIMERAfter you press TALK or LINE plus number button to seize theline on the cordless handset, the built-in call timer shows in thedisplay and begins counting the length of time of the call.AUTO STANDBYPlacing the cordless handset in the charge cradle while thehandset is off the hook (or during a call) automatically hangs upthe handset.RINGER ON/OFF SWITCHUse the two-position switch on the cordless handset to turn theringer volume off or on.
11FLASHUse the FLASH button on the handset to activate custom callingservices such as call waiting or call transfer, which are availablethrough your local phone company.TIP: Don’t use the TALK button to activate custom calling service suchas call waiting, or you’ll hang up the phone.LAST NUMBER REDIALTo   quickly redial the last number you dialed:1. Press TALK  button.2. Press the redial button.HOLDPress the HOLD button to put a call on hold.To   take a call off hold, press the hold button again.•To switch a call on hold from the base to the cordlesshandset, press “HOLD” on the cordless handset.If you continue the call on a separate extension phone, yourcordless phone releases the line to the extension phone.PAGING THE CORDLESS HANDSETThis feature helps you locate a misplaced handset.Press the PAGE button once on the base (25413/25414/25415),then press number 0 button. The cordless handset will beepcontinuously (if it is not out of range) for 2 minutes or until youpress any button on the handset.NOTE: You may still page the cordless handset even if the ringer isturned off.VOLUME ADJUSTAdjust the receiver volume by pressing the Volume Up/Downbutton (located at the side of the handset) when you are in talkmode. There are four volume levels, and each press of the VolumeUp/Down button adjusts the receiver volume by one level.MAKING AN INTERCOM CALL WITH OTHER EXTENSIONS1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode).2. Press the INT button, and the display will show SELECTPHONE ID.3. Press the number button to input the phone ID you want tointercom with. For example, to intercom with extension 2, youneed to input "0", "2".4. When finished, press the INT or TALK button to end up theintercom call.NOTE: To cancel the intercom call, press INTERCOM.ANSWERING AN INTERCOM CALL1. Press the INTERCOM button or TALK button.2. When finished, press the INTERCOM button or TALKbutton again.
RECEIVING AN INCOMING TELEPHONE CALLDURING AN INTERCOM CALLDuring an intercom call, if you receive a telephone call, you willhear an alert tone. To answer the incoming call, press TALK orINT button once to drop the intercom call and press TALK onceagain to answer the telephone call.USING INTERCOM WITH A TELEPHONE CALLDuring a telephone call, you can use the intercom function to pageother extension units and set up a private (2-way) intercomconversation with another user while the telephone call is placedon hold. Or, you can create a 3-way conversation between thetelephone caller, the cordless handset and other extensions.TWO-WAY INTERCOM CALLS1. To make an intercom call, first press the HOLD button toplace the external call on hold. Then, press the INT button,and followed by the extension ID number.2. To answer the intercom call, press HOLD to place the currentcall on hold first. Then press INT or TALK button to answerthe intercom call. When finished, press INT or TALK button toend the intercom call. Press HOLD button to retrieve theexternal caller.THREE-WAY INTERCOM CALLS1. Press HOLD button to hold the current line.2. Press INT button, followed by the extension ID number.3. Wait for the reply of extension you selected.4. Once the extension replies, press the CONF button to set upthree-way conference.5. When finished, press the TALK button once.MEMORYThe cordless handset and base each have their own separatememory storage areas. The handset can store forty 15-characternames and 24-digit telephone numbers in memory.STORING A NAME AND NUMBER IN MEMORY1. Press the STORE button on the handset, then the displayshows ENTER NUMBER.2. Use the keypad to enter the phone number (up to 32 digits).3. Press the SELECT button. The display shows ENTER NAME.4. Use the touch-tone pad to enter a name (up to 15 characters).More than one letter is stored in each of the number keys.For example, to enter Bill Smith, press the 2 key twice for theletter B. Press the 4 key 3 times for the letter I. Press the 5 key3 times for the letter L. Press the 5 key 3 times for the secondletter L, and press the 1 key to insert a space between thefirst and last name. Press the 7 key 4 times for the letter S;press the 6 key once for the letter M; press the 4 key 3 timesfor the letter I; press the 8 key for the letter T; press the 4 keytwice for the letter H.
135. Press the STORE button again to save your selection. Thedisplay shows ENTER LOCATION.6. Enter two digits to enter the location, range from 01 to 40.For example, to store the record in location #5, press "0", "5".After entering a valid location number, the recordwill be saved.7. To   enter another name and number in a different memorylocation, return to step 1 and repeat the process.STORING A REDIAL NUMBER1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode).2. Press the REDIAL button on the handset to review theredial number.3. Press SELECT and ENTER NUMBER shows in the display.4. Then press SELECT again and ENTER NAME shows in the display.5. Use the keypad to enter the names.6.Press STORE button and ENTER LOCATION shows inthe display.7. Enter two digits to enter the location, range from 01 to 40.For example, to store the record in location #5, press "0", "5".After enter a valid location number, the record will be saved.NOTE : If the number you want to redial has more than 32 digits, thetelephone number cannot be stored in memory.INSERTING A PAUSE IN THE DIALING SEQUENCEPress the #PAUSE button on the touch-tone pad twice to insert adelay in the dialing sequence of a stored telephone numberwhen a pause is needed to wait for a dial tone (for example,after you dial 9 for an outside line, or wait for a computer accesstone.) Each pause counts as 1 digit in the dialing sequence.REVIEWING, CHANGING OR DELETING STOREDNAMES/NUMBERSTo   Review: Press DIR/on the handset, then press the orbutton to scroll through the stored numbers. Or press thememory location number.To   Change: While viewing the record, press SELECT/SAVE button.Follow the steps under Storing a Name and Number in Memory.To   Delete: Press DIR/on the handset or base, then press theor button (cordless handset) to scroll to a desired memory.1. While the entry displays, press delete to mark the entry fordeletion. The display shows DELETE?2. Press delete again to delete the entry.DIALING A STORED NUMBERMake sure the phone is ON by pressing the TALK button on thecordless handset.1. Press the DIR button.2. Press the desired memory location button (01-40). Thenumber is shown on the display.
3. Press OK to dial the displayed number.-Or-1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in TALK mode).2. Press the DIR button.3. Press the desired memory location button (01-40), or use theor button to scroll to the desired telephone number.4. Press the TALK button. The telephone number dials automatically.CHAIN DIALING FROM MEMORYUse this feature to make calls that require a sequence ofnumbers, such as a frequently used long distance card number.The following example shows how you can store each part ofthe long dialing sequence and use chain dialing to make a callthrough a long distance service provider:The Number For Memory LocationLong Distance Access Number 7Authorization Code 8Frequently called long distance number 9Make sure the phone is ON.1. Press DIR button and then press 0 followed by 7.2. Press OK to dial the displayed number.3. When you hear the access tone, press DIR button and thenpress 0 followed by 8.4. Press OK to dail out the number stored in memory location 8.5. At the next access tone, press DIR, 0, 8, then OK buttonsin sequence.CALLER ID (CID)Caller ID (CID) is a service available from your local telephonecompany. For Caller ID to work on this system, you mustsubscribe to Caller ID service. To receive Caller ID informationfor a Call Waiting call, you must subscribe to the combined CallWaiting Caller ID service.This telephone system receives and displays CID informationtransmitted by your local telephone company. This informationcan include the phone number, date and time; or the name,phone number, and date and time.dateCID number line number timeCID phonenumbername
15RECEIVING AND STORING CID RECORDSWhen you receive a call, Caller ID information is transmitted bythe phone company to your telephone between the first andsecond ring. The Caller ID information appears on your phone’sdisplay while the phone rings, giving you a chance to monitorthe information and decide whether or not to answer.If you are not at home or cannot answer, the telephone storesthe information so that you can see who called while you wereunavailable. Caller ID memory automatically stores the callnumber, date, time, phone number and name for the last 99calls. If Caller ID memory is full, a new call record automaticallyreplaces the oldest call record in memory.At any time, you can review the stored information for the last99 calls. Any calls received since your last review are marked asNEW in the display, to remind you to review them.REVIEWING CALL RECORDSAs calls are received and stored, the display is updated to letyou know how many calls have been received.1. Press the CID button. The most recent new call record is shown.2. Press <  button to scroll to older call records. When you reachthe oldest call, the display shows START/END.3. Press > button to scroll from the old records to recent ones.As you review call records, the display shows you the followinginformation for each call:•The telephone number of the caller.•The numeric order of the call.•The name of the caller, if available in your service area.NOTE: If a name is received which exceeds 15 characters, the extracharacters will scroll on the display.•Time and date the call was received.•NEW appears for all calls that have not been reviewed.NOTE: Check with your local phone company regarding nameservice availability.TRANSFERRING CID RECORDS TO MEMORYYou may transfer a Caller ID record to your phone’s memory.NOTE: It is important that you format CID records correctly beforestoring in memory. It is not possible to reformat CID records storedin memory.1. Use the CID/button to scroll to the desired record.2. Press the STORE button.3. Press the desired memory location. Example, press thenumber 01 key to store the record in memory location 1. Youwill hear a confirmation tone.DIALING A CALLER ID NUMBERWhen reviewing any call record in the Caller ID memory, youcan dial back the caller’s number.

17CALL WAITING CALLER IDProvided you subscribe to Caller ID with Call Waiting servicefrom your phone company, you may see who is calling whenyou hear the call waiting tone in the receiver. The CIDinformation appears in the display after you hear the tone.Press flash to put the current call on hold and answer theincoming call. Press flash again when you want to return to thefirst call.IMPORTANT: In order to use all of the features of this unit, you mustsubscribe to either the standard Name/Number Caller ID Service orCall Waiting Caller ID Service. To know who is calling while you areon the phone, you must subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID Service.CHANGING THE BATTERYMake sure the telephone is OFF (not in TALK mode) before youreplace battery.1. Remove the battery compartment cover.2. Disconnect the battery plug from the jack inside the batterycompartment and remove the battery pack from the handset.3. Insert the new battery pack and reconnect the battery plug tothe jack inside the compartment.4. Put the battery compartment cover back on.5. Place handset in charge cradle to charge. If you don’t chargethe handset battery properly (for 12 hours) when you first setup the phone and/or when you install a new battery pack, thebattery’s long-term performance will be compromised.BATTERY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS•Do not burn, disassemble, mutilate, or puncture. Try replacing the battery.•Make sure that the unit is connected to a non-switchedelectrical outlet. Disconnect the AC power supply from thebase and reconnect it.Caller ID Error Message•The unit displays this message if it detects anything otherthan valid Caller ID information during the silent period afterthe first ring.
