Duress Device
User's Manual
Introduction
The Duress Device is a portable device that is worn on a duty belt or lanyard by officers, staff, or
visitors. It monitors their status and transmits information to a control room monitor. It can be
used to signal an emergency.
The Duress Device sends a signal to the Guard1 Tracking system once each second. If this
signal is interrupted, the panic button is pressed, or if a secondary condition is detected, an alert
is raised in the Guard1 Tracking system.
Using the Duress Device
The Duress Device has a button on its front, for sending a panic alert.
It has one LED, which is used to confirm it is operating and display battery status.
The Duress Device has a vibration motor and a beeper. Either one of these may be enabled, or
both. This is set at the factory, depending on your organization’s requirements.
Charging
To charge the Duress Device, place it in the charger. Charging takes approximately three hours.

STATUS
Single beep entering Charging mode
The LED indicates the charge status. There are two stages to the charging process:
Flashing red slowly
Waiting to charge. Make sure the charger is plugged in.
Solid Red
Stage 1
Solid Orange
Stage 2
Solid Green
Charge complete
You can remove the Duress Device and use it at any time during the charge sequence.
Self Test
If you press the button while the Duress Device is in the charger, it will beep and vibrate, and the
LED will be solid orange. The Duress Device then returns to normal operation. It's a good idea
to test the device each day, before you go on duty.

STATUS
One beep per second
If you press the button for more than ten seconds while the Duress Device is in the charger, it will
enter Shipping mode. This must be done before shipping the Duress Device to another facility or
back to the manufacturer. To return the device to normal operation, remove it and re-insert it in
the charger.
Active Mode
In active mode, the LED flashes once each second.

STATUS
Single beep entering Active mode
The LED will indicate the battery status: green for good, orange for low, and red for discharged.
If the battery is low or discharged, place it in its charger as soon as you are able to.
Panic Alert
To signal an emergency, press the button. This indicates that an emergency exists and you are
summoning help immediately. The alert will continue until five minutes have passed, or the
Duress Device has been placed in its charger.

Double beep once per second
The Duress Device will beep and/or vibrate once a second. The LED flashes once each second.
As in Active mode, the LED color indicates the battery status.
Pressing the button again extends the panic alert. The Duress Device will signal an alert for five
minutes from the last button press.
Secondary Condition Warning
The Duress Device will signal a warning for thirty seconds if one of these conditions exists:
 The device is not vertical
 There has been no motion
 The device has been removed from the holster
To stop the warning, correct the condition causing it.

One beep every four seconds
The Duress Device will beep and/or vibrate once every four seconds. The LED flashes once each
second. As in Active mode, the LED color indicates the battery status.
Some of these secondary conditions may not be enabled, depending on the requirements of your
facility.
Secondary Condition Alert
If a Secondary Condition Warning exists for thirty seconds, the Duress Device will signal an alert.
To stop the alert, correct the condition causing it.

The Duress Device will beep twice and/or vibrate twice, and the LED flashes once each second.
As in Active mode, the LED color indicates the battery status.
Very Low Battery
In normal operation, the battery LED will flash green, then orange, then red as the battery is
depleted. After that, if the battery is not charged, the Duress Device will enter Very Low Battery
mode.

STATUS
Short "chirp" once every minute
The Duress Device will give a distinctive "chirp", and the LED will flash, once every sixty seconds
In Very Low Battery mode, you can still use the button to signal a Panic Alert. The Duress Device
will transmit a Panic Alert for as long as the battery lasts. Secondary Alerts are disabled in Very
Low Battery mode.
Once the Duress Device enters Very Low Battery mode, it only has enough power to operate for
20 minutes to one hour. You should return it to the charger as soon as possible.

conditions:
(1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any
interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by TimeKeeping Systems, Inc. could void the
user's authority to operate the equipment.

Under Industry Canada regulations, this radio transmitter may only operate using an antenna of
a type and maximum (or lesser) gain approved for the transmitter by Industry Canada. To reduce
potential radio interference to other users, the antenna type and its gain should be so chosen that
the equivalent isotropically radiated power (e.i.r.p.) is not more than that necessary for successful
communication.
This device complies with Industry Canada licence-exempt RSS standard(s). Operation is subject
