RC-30 Remote Control
for RL-VH3 series lasers
Foreword
Thank you for purchasing the TOPCON RC-30 Remote Control.
For the best performance of the instruments, please read these instruc-
tions carefully and keep them in a convenient location for future refer-
ence.
Handling Precautions
Vibration and Impact Protection
When transporting the instrument, provide protection to minimize risk of
severe vibration or impact.
Display for Safe Use
In order to encourage the safe use of products and prevent any danger
to the operator and others or damage to properties, important warnings
are put on the products and inserted in the instruction manuals.
We suggest that everyone understand the meaning of the following dis-
plays and icons before reading the “Safety Cautions” and text.
1) Injury refers to hurt, burn, electric shock, etc.
2) Physical damage refers to extensive damage to buildings or
equipment and furniture.

How to Set Communication Channel
The same communication channel must
be assigned to both the RC-30 and the
RL-VH3 series laser instrument.
Remove the rubber cap and turn the
rotary switch to set a channel. Refer to
the your RL-VH3 laser operating manual
for instructions on setting the same com-
munications channel on the laser instru-
ment.
How to Replace the RC-30
Batteries
1Remove the battery cover from the
back of the RC-30 by pressing on the cover and sliding it in the
direction of the arrow.
2Remove the old batteries and replace with new three “AA” cell
alkaline batteries making sure each is placed in the proper direction
as indicated.
3Replace the battery cover. You will hear a click when it snaps in
place.
Display Meaning
WARNING Ignoring or disregard of this display may lead
to death or serious injury.
CAUTION Ignoring or disregard of this display may lead
to personal injury or physical damage to the
instrument.
WARNING
There is a risk of re, electric shock or physical harm if you at-
tempt to disassemble or repair the instrument yourself.
This is only to be carried out by TOPCON or an authorized dealer, only!
• Risk of re or electric shock.
Do not use a wet battery or charger.
• May ignite explosively.
Never use an instrument near ammable gas, liquid matter, and do not
use in a coal mine.
• Battery can cause explosion or injury.
Do not dispose in re or heat.
The short circuit of a battery can cause a re.
Do not short circuit battery when storing it.
CAUTION
Do not allow skin or clothing to come into contact with acid from the bat-
teries, if this does occur then wash off with copious amounts of water and
seek medical advice.

FCC WARNING
Laser power switch
(Standby mode)
Pressing for more than three seconds turns
laser standby mode on or off. Laser turns off
if standby mode continues for two hours.
Transmission lamp This lamp will light when a key of RC-30 is
pressed.
Battery warning
lamp for RC-30
Battery warning for RC-30.
Replace the batteries with new ones when lit.
Stop beam control Sets Stop Beam mode and moves the laser.
(RL-VH3G/A/B models only)
Speed control The rotation speed of the rotary head can be
changed.
Alignment control Moves beam up or down (horizontal rotation).
Moves beam right or left (vertical rotation).
X/Y axis lamp Indicates axis selected during beam sloping.
Mode switch con-
trol
Laser mode is switched alternately as follows.
Scan mode / Laser sensor mode / Laser
pointing mode.
If this key is pressed in other modes except
Scan, Laser sensor and Laser pointing
modes, the mode will change to scan mode.
If this key is pressed in manual focus mode,
manual focus will be cancelled.

Horizontal:
Setting slope
Sets alignment control mode by pressing the
key for more than three seconds. Then X axis
lamp will light.
Sets slope mode by pressing the key for more
than three seconds. Then X lamp will light.
Select X or Y axis for manual grading.
To cancel the slope or alignment control mode
press this key for more than three seconds.
Note • Replace all 3 batteries with new ones.
• Do not mix old batteries and new ones.
