To obtain repair or replacement within the terms of this warranty, the product along with any accessories included in the original packaging is to be delivered with proof of warranty coverage (e.g. dated bill of sale), specification of the defect(s), transportation prepaid, to the company at the address shown below. DO NOT RETURN THIS PRODUCT TO THE RETAILER. LF-DAS OWNER’S MANUAL The warranty does not extend to costs incurred for the installation, removal or reinstallation of the product. The warranty does not apply to any product or part thereof which, in the opinion of the company, has suffered or been damaged through alteration, improper installation, mishandling, misuse, neglect, accident, or by removal or defacement of the factory serial number/bar code label(s). LF-DAS LF-DAS Thank you for purchasing your Terk LF-DAS Digital Audio Sender. Your Terk “Digital Music Anywhere” system allows you to listen to your music library from your computer, iPod, MP3, CD player, or portable DVD player through a stereo system or other audio source in your house. The following basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury: 8. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this product, but take it to a qualified serviceperson if service or repair work is required. Opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltages or other risks and will void the warranty. Incorrect reassembly can cause electric shock when the product is subsequently used. B. Liquid has been spilled into the product. 3. Do not use your LF-DAS in or near any body of water, such as a bath tub, washbowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or in or near a swimming pool. C. The product has been exposed to rain or water. D. The product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. 4. Be sure to place your LF-DAS on a stable, level surface. Placing the product on any unstable surface may cause the product to fall. 7. This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. 9. Unplug your LF-DAS from the wall outlet and contact a qualified electronic service technician if any of the following should occur: A. The plug is damaged or the cord has been broken or frayed. 1. Read and understand all of the instructions in this manual. 2. Follow all warnings and instructions indicated in the manual and on the product itself. 5. Do not attempt to clean your LF-DAS while it is plugged in. Unplug the product from the wall outlet before cleaning. 6. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners to clean your LF-DAS. Clean only with a damp cloth. E. The product has been dropped or otherwise damaged and will not work. F. The product exhibits a distinct change in performance. • No repairs to the unit(s) should be attempted by the customer. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Your TERK LF-DAS Digital Audio Sender consist of two units, the Transmitter (TX) and the Receiver (RX) along with two AC adapters. Also included are three cables. One 3 foot long 3.5mm stereo to RCA (red and white) cable, one 3 foot long USB cable and one 3 foot long 3.5mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo cable. Transmitter (TX): The transmitter connects to your digital audio source such as a desktop or laptop computer, iPod or other MP3 player, portable DVD player, or any other audio source with a USB, 3.5mm stereo, or RCA audio output jack. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If the equipment does cause harmful interference to a radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: The transmitter will send your audio signal to the Receiver. The transmitter can operate on 8 different frequency channels. You can select the channel with the best reception by simply pressing the channel select button on the Transmitter. •Reorient or relocate the receiver unit. •Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver. Receiver (RX): The Receiver connects to the device you wish to listen your audio on. This could include powered speakers, the auxiliary input of a radio, boom box, stereo system, or your favorite headphones. Simply plug the required cable into the Receiver and your audio device. •Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. •Consult a local or experienced radio/TV technician for help. If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop using your product. T6021-LF-DAS-OM 4X5.qxp 2007.1.30 4:25 PM Page C6 STEP 2: Setting Up the Receiver To achieve optimal performance and greater reception range, keep the transmitter and receiver away from wireless LAN access points, microwave ovens and wireless networks, phones and baby monitors that operate on 2.4GHz frequency. Connect the included 3.5mm stereo / RCA or the 3.5mm stereo audio cable to the “Audio Out” jack on the receiver. Next, connect the other end to your stereo’s audio input jacks. Options for connecting the transmitter. To connect to a laptop, notebook or desktop computer use the included USB cable to connect to your computer’s USB port and the USB port on the transmitter, or use the 3.5mm stereo audio cable and connect to your computer’s headphone jack and the “AUDIO-IN” jack on the transmitter. Make sure to put the switch labeled “USB/AUDIO-IN” into the correct position. To connect to an iPod, MP3 player, CD player or portable DVD player use the included 3.5mm stereo cable and plug into the headphone jack and the “AUDIO-IN” jack of the transmitter. Make sure to put the switch labeled “USB/AUDIO-IN” into the audio-in position. To connect to a stereo system, use the included 3.5mm stereo to RCA cable. Connect to the “AUDIO-IN” jack on the transmitter and to the audio out RCA jacks on your stereo. Connect the AC adapter plug to the transmitter and then plug the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet. The power indicator will light. When using the USB cable, the AC adapter is not required on the transmitter. LF-DAS LF-DAS STEP 1: Setting Your Transmitter Connect the AC adapter plug to the transmitter and then plug the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet. STEP 3: Using Your LF-DAS System Turn on the audio source and stereo system. The transmitter and receiver link automatically, and the power indicator on the receiver will light. The transmitter has 8 channels. If you can not hear clear sound or the receiver’s power indicator does not light, press the button on the transmitter labeled “CHANNEL”repeatedly to select a channel with clear sound. Adjust the audio source’s volume to the desired level. To connect to a Mac, select USB speakers as your audio output. LF-DAS LF-DAS System requirements: • When you change the music source from “LINE-IN” to “USB” and there is no sound, try restarting your music application (such as Windows Media Player). • When you unplug the audio or USB cable and plug it in again, sound may be lost for 3 – 5 seconds. • Connect the AC adapter to the transmitter only after connecting to an audio source. • Use only an adapter that supplies 9V DC and delivers at least 200 mA. It’s center tip must be set to positive. • Unplug the AC adapter from the AC outlet before unplugging it from the transmitter or receiver. 10
