TheAW8001Moduleisdesignedtobeusedinconjunctionwithanexternal
microcontrollerrunningtheapplication.TheAW8001integratesacompletePHY,Link
ControllerandHostsinglemode Bluetooth lowenergysubsystemandfeaturesasimple
SPIbasedinterfacetotheapplicationmicrocontroller.Qualifiedprofiles,APIsandexample
applicationareprovidedaspartofthe μBlueSDKwhichiseasilyportabletoarangeof
differentapplicationmicrocontrollers.ThissystemsegmentationallowstheAW8001tobe
usedwiththebest-fitmicrocontrollerforaspecificapplicationaswellaseaseintegration

AW8001isaBT4.0Module,ItsmainphysicalfeaturesaretheBluetoothlowenergy
PHYandtheBluetoothlowenergystackthathandlesthelinkcontrollerandhoststack.It
alsoincludesadditionalanalogsub-systemsneededfortheBluetoothlowenergyoperation,
suchaspowermanagementandseveraloscillatoroptions.

AW8001hason-chipnon-volatilememoryforstoringserviceconfigurations.This
on-chipstorageletsyouselectandcombinethenecessaryservicesforyourapplication,
reducingtherequirementsonyourapplicationcontrollerforhandlingallreal-time
operationsrelatedtotheBluetoothlowenergycommunicationprotocol.
AW8001includesapowersupplyvoltagemonitorandatemperaturesensorthat
furtherreducestherequirementstotheapplicationcontroller.Thesefeaturesare
accessiblethroughtheApplicationControllerInterface(ACI).
AW8001alsooffersanoptionaloutputsignalthatisactivatedbeforetheradio
becomesactive.Thistimingsignalenablesyoutocontrolthepeakcurrentdrainofyour
application,avoidingoverloadofyourpowersupply(formostapplicationsthisisusuallya
smallbattery).Youcanalsousethistimingsignaltocontroltheapplicationcircuitry,
avoidingnoiseinterferencewhentheAW8001radioisoperating.
Aseparateserialinterface(UART)givesyouaccesstotheBluetoothlowenergyDirect
TestMode(DTM).ThisinterfaceisusedtocontroltheBluetoothlowenergyradio(RFPHY)
andissupportedbycommerciallyavailableBluetoothtestequipmentusedforBluetooth
qualification.Thisserialinterfacealsoenablesyoutotestradioperformanceandto
optimizeyourantenna.
