SJope Operation Slopesare a majorfactor relatedto slip andfallaccidentswhich can resultinsevereinjury.Operationon slopes requiresextra caution.Ifyou feel uneasyon a slope,do not mow it.Foryour safety,use the slopegaugeincludedas part of this manualto measureslopes beforeoperatingthis unit on a slopedor hilly area.If the slope is greaterthan 15 degrees,do not mowit. General Service: 1. Neverrun an engineindoorsor ina poorlyventilatedarea. Engineexhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessand deadlygas. 2. Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertainthe bladeandall movingparts havestopped.Disconnectthe sparkplug wire andgroundagainstthe engineto prevent unintendedstarting. 3. Checkthe bladeandenginemountingbolts atfrequent intervalsfor propertightness.Also,visuallyinspectbladefor damage(e.g.,bent, cracked,worn) Replacebladewiththe originalequipmentmanufacture's(O.EM.) bladeonly,listed inthis manual."Useof parts whichdo not meetthe original equipmentspecificationsmay leadto improperperformance andcompromisesafety!" 4. Mowerbladesare sharp andcan cut.Wrap the bladeor wear gloves,anduse extracautionwhen servicingthem. 5. Keepall nuts,bolts, andscrewstight to be surethe equipment is in safeworkingcondition. 6. Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproper operation regularly. 7. Afterstrikinga foreignobject,stop the engine,disconnectthe spark plugwire andgroundagainstthe engine. Thoroughlyinspectthe mowerfor any damage.Repairthe damagebeforestartingandoperatingthe mower. Do: 1. Mow acrossthe face of slopes;neverup anddown. Exerciseextremecautionwhen changingdirectionon slopes. 2. Watchfor holes,ruts, rocks,hidden objects,or bumpswhich can causeyou to slip or trip.Tall grasscan hide obstacles. 3. Alwaysbe sure of yourfooting.A slip andfall can cause seriouspersonalinjury.If you feel you are losingyour balance,releasethe blade controlhandle immediately,and the blade will stop rotatingwithin 3 seconds. Do Not: 1. Do not mownear drop-offs, ditchesor embankments,where you could loseyour footing or balance. 2. Do not mowslopes greaterthan 15degrees as shownon the slope gauge. 3. Do not mowon wetgrass. Unstablefooting could cause slipping. Service 8. Neverattempt to makea wheel or cutting height adjustment whilethe engineis running. Safe Handling Of Gaso%e: 9. Donot changethe engine governorsettingor overspeedthe engine.The governorcontrolsthe maximumsafe operating speedof the engine. 11. Maintainor replacesafetylabels,as necessary'. 1. Now that you have set up your lawn mower for operation, read this section to become acquainted with its controls and features. This knowledge will allow you to use your new equipment to its fullest potential Blade Mulch Control Grass The biade control is attached to the upper handle. Depress and squeeze it against the upper handle to operate the unit= Release it to stop engine and blade= ,_ WARNING:This Made control is a safety device. Do not bypass its operations. Cutting Height Adjustment Gas and Oil Fill°Up 1, Check oi{ {eve{and add oil if necessary, Follow engine manual for this, Levers One adjustment lever is located on each wheel and is used to adjust the cutting height. All four wheels must be at the same position to ensure a uniform cut. Recoil Catcher The grass catcher, located at the rear of the mower, is used to bag the grass clippings for disposai at another site= Once the bag is fuiL it has to be removed from the mower and emptied before any further mowing. Keep hands and feet away from the cutting deck. Refer to warning label on the unit. Plug The mulch plug is used for mulching purposes= Instead of collecting the grass clippings in a grass catcher or using the side discharge chute, some mower models have the option of recirculating the clippings back to the lawn. This is called mulching= 2, Service the engine with gasoline as instructed in the engine manual WARNING: Use extreme care when handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely flammable and the vapors are explosive. Never fuel the machine indoors or while the engine is hot or running.Extinguish cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and other sources of ignition. Starter The recoi[ starter is attached to the right upper handle= Stand behind the unit and pui[ the recoil starter rope to start the unit= 8 while operating the mower or while performing any adjustments or repairs on it.
