SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS for WS4920 WIRELESS REPEATERIMPORTANT:This equipment, WS4920 WIRELESS REPEATER 1.0 shall be used installed and used within an environment that provides the pollution degree max 2 and overvoltages category II NONHAZARDOUS LOCATIONS, indoor only. The equipment is FIXED and DIRECT PLUG IN powered from the mains; it is designed to be installed by Service Persons only; [Service Person isdefined as a person having the appropriate technical training and experience necessary to be aware of hazards to which that person may be exposed in performing a task and of mea-sures to minimize the risks to that person or other persons. 1. The equipment is installed in a FIRE ENCLOSURE.2. If during the installation a knockout is removed, it is the installer's responsibility to ensure that the same degree of protection for the enclosure is provided by the use of bushings,fittings, etc.3. The enclosure must be secured to the building structure before operation.4. Internal wiring must be routed in a manner that prevents:•Excessive strain on wire and on terminal connections;•Loosening of terminal; connections;•Damage of conductor insulation5. It is the end-user and/or installer's responsibility to ensure that the disposal of the used batteries (battery pack) is made according to the waste recovery and recycling regulationsapplicable to the intended market.WARNING: When using equipment connected to the MAINS, always follow basic safety instructions. The WS4920 is a wireless repeater designed toextend the range of DSC one-way wirelesstransmitters and to improve signal qualitybetween the transmitter and the receiver. Usethe WS4920 to remedy transmission problemscaused by excessive noise or other interference,or by long distances between devices andreceivers. Up to 4 repeaters can be installed peralarm system.The WS4920 is compatible with all DSC 433MHz one-way wireless transmitters, receivers andalarm panels. Permanently mount WS4920.NOTE: When enrolling and placement testing theWS4920 with the alarm panel, refer to the panelinstallation instructions for the appropriate pro-gramming sections.A: Temporarily Mount WS4920Select a suitable location for the repeater. Usethe following list as a guide:•Locate device near a power outlet•Location should be free from vibration and shock•Mount on a flat, stable surface•Ideal location is mid-way between the wire-less transmitter and receiverDo not permanently mount the repeater until ithas been placement tested.Temporarily mount the unit using tape or othernon-permanent method. If the selected locationfails the placement test, the device must berepositioned.B: Connect Power Connect back-up battery first then AC.To connect the battery:1.Gently pry front cover from chassis using smallslotted screwdriver in holes provided.2.Connect battery cable to connector on PC board. NOTE: Low Battery Transmission Delay program-ming option (section 377 on alarm panel) must beno more than 1 day as battery backup time is 24hours. To connect the AC adaptor:1.Run AC wire through wiring channel on back ofrepeater and pass through hole in chassis.2.Connect AC wires to terminals on PC board.3.Route wire around retaining bracket to secure.4.Plug AC adaptor into wall outlet.C: Placement Testing the WS4920 Receiver Receiver placement test ensures the WS4920 islocated in an area with low noise and interfer-ence and can successfully receive signals fromone-way wireless devices.   To perform a Receiver Placement test:1.Press and hold Programming button for 3seconds to enter Programming mode. The“Mode Entered” tone sounds. Receiver Place-ment Test is continuously active until Pro-gramming mode is exited, times out or thecover is put back on the unit. 2.If RF traffic level or noise floor level is toohigh, yellow LED turns on. If this occurs,reposition WS4920 until yellow LED turns off.3.To exit Enroll/Placement mode, press Pro-gramming button again for 3 seconds orplace cover back on WS4920. The “ModeExited” tone sounds.BatteryConnectorAC Terminals
D: Enrolling the WS4920The WS4920 has two Electronic serial numbers(ESN) that must be entered into the alarm panelduring enrollment. The first communicates super-visory and tamper status. The second identifiesbattery status (see note below).To quick enroll the WS4920 (available onselected alarm panels):1.Enter Wireless Enrollment mode on alarm panel(see panel installation instructions). 2.Tamper WS4920 to transmit first ESN.3.Confirm ESN on alarm panel. The panelprompts for zone number.4.Select and accept zone number for repeater.5.Press Programming button on WS4920 totransmit second ESN.6.Confirm ESN on alarm panel and select zonewhen prompted. Once zone is confirmed,WS4920 is enrolled.To manually enroll the WS4920, consult the alarmpanel installation manual.NOTE: Disable tamper transmission programming(options ([330]-[336] on control panel) for thesecond zone. This prevents low battery troubles/restores, caused by momentary AC loss, from beingreported to the monitoring station. A tamper islogged in the event buffer. Both zones should beprogrammed as a non-alarm zone type.E: Placement Testing the WS4920For optimal performance between the WS4920and the alarm panel, the repeater should belocated in an area of low RF interference. To test the RF link between the WS4920 andthe alarm panel:1.Place alarm panel into placement test (seepanel installation instructions) and select zonewhere first serial number is enrolled.2.Tamper the WS4920.•If alarm panel receives a strong signal, thepanel squawks the siren once and “Locationis Good” is displayed on alarm keypad.•If alarm panel receives a weak signal, the panelsquawks the siren three times and “Location isBad” is displayed on alarm keypad.3.If alarm system indicates no response, repo-sition WS4920 and repeat test. Repeatershould only be placed in a location wheremultiple good results are received.F: Quick Enroll/Placement Testing DevicesUp to 164 1-way wireless devices can beenrolled on the WS4920. During the first 4hours of power up, the WS4920 can be placedinto Enroll/Placement test modes. After the 4hour time-out, access to these modes is deniedand the unit must be powered up again to enterEnroll/Placement mode.To both enroll and placement test a device atthe same time:1.Press and hold Programming button for 3 sec-onds. “Mode Entered” tone sounds. TheWS4920 is now in Enroll/Programming mode.2.Trip and restore zone to be enrolled 3 times:•Door and window contact open/close or tam-per/restore•PIR and other stationary devices tamper/restore•Panic pendant 3 to 4 button presses    •Wireless key 3 separate button presses3.Once repeater has received signal from zone,Green LED lights for 1 second and sounderemits “Zone Enrolled” tone.NOTE: •If another zone is tripped during the enrollsequence, the enroll process must be restarted.•A repeater can not enroll another repeater.•Stationary (permanently mounted) devicesshould only be enrolled on one repeater. Theonly exception is in Residential Fire Installa-tions, where smoke detectors must be enrolledwith at least 2 repeaters.•Fobs and panic pendants may be enrolledwith multiple repeaters.•If an enrollment is attempted after all 164device slots have been filled, the repeateremits the “Error” tone to indicate that no fur-ther devices may be enrolled.4.After zone is enrolled, trip zone again to per-form placement test. Green LED flashes if sig-nal is received. •If “GOOD Zone Placement” tone sounds,device location is satisfactory and unit maybe permanently mounted. NOTE: If the repeater tone can not be heard whiletesting the device, set the alarm panel into place-
ment test mode using the first repeater serial num-ber. The repeater placement test results aresounded through the alarm panel siren.•If “BAD Zone Placement” tone sounds, reposi-tion device and trip zone again. Continue until“GOOD Zone Placement” tone sounds.NOTE: Although good results may be obtained onthe repeater, bad results are still possible from thealarm panel due to collisions.5.Use above procedure to enroll and placementtest other zones.6.To exit, press Programming button again for3 seconds or place cover back on WS4920.“Mode Exited” tone sounds.Global Placement Testing DevicesTo placement test a 1-way wireless device afterthe initial enroll/placement test process:1.Press and hold Programming button for 3seconds. “Mode Entered” tone sounds. TheWS4920 is now in Global Placement Testmode. Each zone enrolled on repeater givesplacement test result when tripped.•If “GOOD Zone Placement” tone sounds,device location is satisfactory and unit maybe permanently mounted.•If “BAD Zone Placement” tone sounds, reposi-tion device and trip zone again. Continue until“GOOD Zone Placement” tone sounds.2.To exit, press Programming button again for3 seconds or place cover back on theWS4920. “Mode Exited” tone sounds.G: Mounting the WS4920Permanently mount the WS4920 only aftercompleting multiple successful placement tests.To mount the WS4920:1.Ensure AC wire is run through channel onback of repeater.2.Remove front cover and secure unit to wallthrough mounting holes using screws pro-vided. Use all 4 screws.3.Place cover back on WS4920.4.Plug AC adaptor into unswitched AC outlet.Restoring the WS4920 to   Factory Defaults To restore factory default settings:1.Within 1 minute of power up, press and holdProgramming button for 10 seconds. Sounderbeeps after first second to indicate WS4920is in Installer mode. After 10 seconds,Repeater emits long tone and all LEDS light.2.Release Programming button and immedi-ately press and hold again for 10 seconds.After 10 seconds, WS4920 emits a long toneand all three LED’s flash.NOTE: The second button press must occur within30 seconds of the first or the WS4920 will exitEnroll/Placement mode.3.WS4920 beeps three times indicating Installermode exit. If installer mode exits before thereset is complete, due either to time-out ortamper, repeat the reset procedure.Replacing the BatteryReplace the backup battery when it no longerholds its charge.To replace the battery:1.Disconnect WS4920 from AC.2.Remove front cover from device.3.Disconnect battery cable from connector.4.Loosen screw on battery retention arm androtate arm aside. 5.Lift battery out of holder and insert new one.6.Reposition retention arm and tighten screw.7.Snap front cover back into place.8.Re-connect WS4920 to AC.ACMounting     HoleMounting     Hole
