IntroductionThe WS4936 / WS4936EU / WS8936 is a wireless pho-toelectric smoke detector with a fixed temperature and rate ofrise heat detector, and an internal piezoelectric alarm. Fourversions are available: US version (UL), Canadian version(ULC), International version (EU), and Australian version(AUS).NOTE: Heat detection based on rate of rise has not beeninvestigated by UL/ULC.NOTE: AU and EU versions do not include a fixed tem-perature heat alarm, but DO include a rate of risealarm.HUSH/TEST BUTTONOperationApproximately every 7 to 8 seconds the unit tests for a smokeor heat alarm condition. During this sequence the unit alsoperforms self diagnostics, and checks for tampers and faults.During normal operation the green LED will flash every 12seconds and the sounder will not sound.Smoke AlarmThe smoke detector will go into alarm when the signal levelexceeds the “alarm” threshold and automatically restorewhen the signal level falls below the alarm “restore”threshold. During an alarm the LED will flash 1/second andthe sounder will sound the evacuation temporal pattern (UL,EU, ULC).Alarm SilencingThis smoke alarm is provided with an automatically resettablealarm silencing feature. When the sensor is in alarm, by press-ing the Test/Silence/Reset button it will silence the localannunciation of the alarm and transmit an alarm restoralevent to the control panel. The LED will flash every 8 seconds(for up to 10 minutes) to indicate the alarm has beensilenced.29009523 R001The flashing LED will stop when the unit returns to normaloperation. The alarm silence feature has a fixed time settingthat desensitizes the smoke alarm for 8 minutes.Alarm silencing does not disable the smoke alarm but ratherreduces its smoke sensitivity. Following the silenced periodthe smoke alarm restores automatically to its intended oper-ation. If smoke around the unit is dense enough to suggest apotentially dangerous situation, it will stay in alarm, or mayreturn to the alarm state quickly.Detector TroubleWhen the detector has a general fault, the yellow LED blinksonce every four seconds and there is a chirp every 48seconds. After 12 hours, the panel will display a loss of super-vision message.Status LEDsSounder(do not pulse the sounderand LEDconcurrently)Normal Green flash every 12seconds OffHeatAlarmRed flash every 1second ANSI S3.41 temporal 3HeatTestRed flash every 1second ANSI S3.41 temporal 3SmokeAlarmRed flash every 1secondANSI S3.41 temporal 3(press button to hush for 5-10 minutes)SmokeTestRed flash every 1secondANSI S3.41 temporal 3(press button to hush for 5-10 minutes)TestAlarmRed flash every 1second ANSI S3.41 temporal 3FreezeWarning3 yellow flashes every4 seconds OffDetectorTroubleYellow flash every 4secondsOne chirp every 48secondsLowBatteryYellow flash every 12secondsOne chirp every 48seconds (press button tohush for 12 hours)DetectorDirtyYellow flash every 8secondsOne chirp every 48secondsPower-upRed, yellow, green, flash sequenceOne chirp at the end of thepower-up sequenceTamperRed, yellow, greenflash sequence every12 secondsOffTable 1: Detector and Status Indication1WS4936/WS4936EU (433MHz)/WS8936 (868MHz) SeriesWireless Smoke DetectorInstallation and Operating InstructionsRead this instruction sheet thoroughly before installation and use of the WS4936 / WS4936EU/ WS8916
