Use it at sporting events, to stay in contact with family and friends, hiking, skiing, outdoors, or in a neighborhood watch for vital communication.PACKAGE CONTENTSEach radio uses 3 AAA rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, included. If your model number contains a "C," your radio can be charged. A micro-USB Y charging cable is included. If your model number contains an "H," your radio has a headset jack. One headset per radio is includedRefer to the packaging for other specific contents. If you have any questions you can contact the FCC direct at 1-888-225-5322.INSTALL THE BATTERIESEach SX167 radio uses 3 AAA batteries (included). These batteries will be either alkaline or rechargeable NiMH; refer to the packaging for specifications for your particular model.To install the batteries (NiMH or Alkaline):1. If necessary, remove the belt clip.Press up on the belt clip latch andslide the belt clip off of the radio.2. Remove the battery compartmentdoor by pressing on and sliding outthe compartment door. Remove thecover.3. Install the 3 AAA batteries (included)into the battery compartment. Be certain to follow the + and – symbols in the compartment. Installing the batteries incorrectly will prevent the unit from operating.4. Replace the battery compartmentdoor by sliding the door into place.5. Replace the belt clip if necessary.CHARGING THE RADIOFor models that recharge: 1. Plug one branch of the includedmicroUSB Y-Cable into each radio'smicroUSB charge port.2. Insert the other end (USB) into a USBpower source (computer, phonecharger, etc - not included).3. The battery strength meter in theupper right-hand corner indicates thebattery level.Notes:•Charge time may vary depending onthe battery life remaining. For fastestcharging, turn off the radio beforecharging.•Do not use alkaline batteries inradios that recharge. Doing so cancreate a safety hazard or damagethe radio.•If battery power is low, you cannotoperate the radio even using externalpower. if you try to transmit whilepower is low, the radio willautomatically turn off. Recharge orreplace the batteries.USING A HEADSETFor models that have a headset jack: You can use a headset for more private communications. To use a headset, lift the rubber cover from over the headset jack, then plug in the headset.USING THE RADIOIn order to get the most out of your new radio, read this reference guide completely before attempting to operate it.TURNING THE RADIO ON AND ADJUSTING THE VOLUME1. Press and hold the /CH key to turnthe radio ON. The radio tunes to the last active channel. 2. Press and hold the /CH key to turnthe radio OFF.Press the ▲ or ▼ keys to increase or decrease the volume level. L1 - L8 displays as you press the keys.CHANNEL OPERATIONYour radio has 22 channels you can use to talk to others. In order to speak to someone, each of you must be set to the same channel.Choose a Channel1. With the radio on, press /CH keyonce. The current channel numberflashes.2. Use the ▲ or ▼ keys to select otherchannels (1 - 22). Press and hold ▲ or▼keys to rapidly change channels.Talk on Your RadioTo talk to others using the radio:Once you select a channel, press PTT to talk. When you finish talking, release PTT. The radio sends a roger beep at the end of your transmission so that others know you've finished talking.If the other party does not hear you, you can press CALL to send a call alert tone. Automatic Power Save FeatureYour radio has a unique circuit designed to dramatically extend the life of the batteries. If there is neither a transmission nor an incoming call within 2 seconds, your radio switches to the Power Save mode. The radio is still able to receive transmissions in this mode.WEATHER CHANNEL1. With the radio on, press /CH keytwice. The weather icon displays andthe radio tunes to the current weatherchannel.2. Your radio is set up to transmit a regulated signal on an assigned frequency. It is against the law to alter or adjust the settings inside the radio to exceed those limitations. Any adjustments to your radio must be made by qualified technicians.To be safe and sure:• Never open your radio’s case.• Never change or replace anything in your radio except the batteries.Your radio might cause TV or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To determine whether your radio is causing the interference, turn it off. If the interference goes away, your radio is causing it. Try to eliminate the interference by moving your radio away from the receiver. If you cannot eliminate the interference, the FCC requires that you stop using the radio.Hazardous Environments: Do not operate the radio in hazardous environments. Explosion or fire may result. Do not operate the radio near unshielded electrical blasting caps.Under certain conditions, radios can interfere with blasting operations and may cause an explosion. Turn your radio OFF to prevent accidental transmission when in a blasting area or in areas posted: "Turn off two-way radio." Construction crews often use remote control RF devices to set off explosives.Care and Safety: To clean the radio, use a soft cloth dampened with water. Do not use cleaners or solvents because they can harm the body of the unit and leak inside, causing permanent damage. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the battery contacts. Do not submerge the unit in water. If the unit gets wet, turn it off and remove the batteries immediately.Dry the battery compartment with a soft cloth to minimize potential water damage. Leave the battery compartment cover off overnight to ensure complete drying. Do not use the radio until the unit is completely dry.WARNING!
