Do not dispose of the battery pack in a fire. The cell mayexplode. Check the nickel-cadmium battery disposal packageinsert for disposal instructions.3. Do not open or mutilate the battery pack. Released electrolyteis corrosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin. It maybe toxic if swallowed.4. Exercise care in handling the battery in order not to short thebattery with conducting materials such as rings, bracelets,and keys. The battery or conductor may overheat and causeburns.5. Charge the battery pack provided with or identified for use withthis product only in accordance with the instructions andlimitations specified in the owner’s manual provided for thisproduct.6. Observe proper polarity orientation between the battery packand battery charger.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!Important ElectricalConsiderationsUnplug all electrical appliances when you know an electricalstorm is approaching. Lightning can pass through yourhousehold wiring and damage any device connected to it. (Contactthe state public utility commission, public service commission orcorporation commission for information.)RangeYour new phone is designed to achieve the maximum possiblerange by transmitting and receiving according to the highestspecifications set forth by the FCC. We have rated this phone tooperate at a maximum distance with the qualification that therange depends upon the environment in which the telephone isused. Many factors limit range, and it would be impossible toinclude all the variables in our rating. The Maximum Rangerating of this phone is meant to be used as a means ofcomparison against other range claims.Telephone Line ProblemsThe FCC has granted the telephone company the right todisconnect service in the event that your phone causes problems onthe telephone line. Also, the telephone company may makechanges in facilities and services which may affect the operation ofyour unit. However, your telephone company must give adequatenotice in writing prior to such actions to allow you time formaking necessary arrangements to continue uninterrupted service.If you are having trouble with your telephone service, you mustfirst disconnect your phone to determine if it is the cause of yourproblem. If you determine that it is the cause, you must leave itdisconnected until the trouble has been corrected.The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle isintended to alert the user to the presence of importantoperating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in theliteratureaccompanyingtheappliance.
Radio InterferenceRadio interference may occasionally cause buzzing and hummingin your cordless handset, or clicking noises in the base. Thisinterference is caused by external sources such as TV,refrigerator, vacuum cleaner, fluorescent lighting, or electricalstorm. Your unit is NOT DEFECTIVE. If these noises continue andare too distracting, please check around your home to see whatappliances may be causing the problem. In addition, werecommend that the base not be plugged into a circuit that alsopowers a major appliance because of the potential forinterference. Be certain that the antenna on the unit is fullyextended when needed.In the unlikely event that you consistently hear other voices ordistracting transmissions on your phone, you may be receivingradio signals from another cordless telephone or other source ofinterference. If you cannot eliminate this type of interference, youneed to change to a different channel.Finally, it should be noted that some cordless telephones operateat frequencies that may cause interference to nearby TVs andVCRs. To minimize or prevent such interference, the base of thecordless telephone should not be placed near or on top of a TV orVCR. If interference is experienced, moving the cordless telephonefarther away from the TV or VCR will often reduce or eliminatethe interference.More Than One Cordless TelephoneIf you want to use more than one cordless telephone in yourhome, they must operate on different channels. Press the channelkey to select a channel that provides the clearest communication.Cordless Telephone PrivacyCordless telephones are radio devices. Communications betweenthe handset and base of your cordless telephone areaccomplished by means of radio waves which are broadcast overthe open airways. Because of the inherent physical properties ofradio waves, your communications can be received by radioreceiving devices other than your own cordless telephone unit.Consequently, any communications using your cordless telephonemay not be private.Installation ConsiderationsSelecting a LocationBefore choosing a location for your new phone, there are someimportant guidelines you should consider:●The location should be close to both a phone jack andcontinuous power outlet. (A continuous power outlet is an ACoutlet which does not have a switch to interrupt its power.)●Keep the base and handset away from sources of electricalnoise such as motors or fluorescent lighting.●Be sure there is sufficient space to fully extend the baseantenna.●The base can be placed on a desk or tabletop or mounted on astandard AT&T or GTE wall plate.●You should charge your new phone for 15-20 hours beforecompleting the installation or using the handset.Telephone Line OutletsThere are two types of phone outlets:Modular JackMost phone equipment available now uses modular jacks. Phonecords are fitted with a molded plastic connector which plugs intothis type of jack. If you do not have modular phone jacks, contactyour local telephone company for information about theirinstallation.Hardwired JackSome equipment is wired directly to a phone jack, and thesetypes of installations require a modular jack converter. This typeof installation is not difficult; however, you should contact yourUniden telephone dealer or a telephone supply store for adviceabout the proper adapter or converter for your particularsituation.Connecting the Telephone CordsConsider these safety guidelines before connecting the telephonecords:Caution!●Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.●Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unlessthe telephone line has been disconnected.●Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.Applying Power to the BaseThis phone requires an AC outlet, without a switch to interruptpower, and the included AC adapter. To relieve strain on the DCplug when the phone is placed on a desk or table, wrap the powercord around the strain relief notch on the bottom of the base.NOTE: Place the power cord so that it does not create a triphazard, or where it could become chafed and create a fire orother electrical hazards.Adapter Safety FeaturesIf the AC adapterfurnished with thisphone has apolarized line plug(a plug having oneblade wider than theother), this plug will fitinto the power outletonly one way. Ifyou are unable toinsert the plugfully into the outlet, try reversing the plug.Do not alter the shape of the blades of the polarized plug!NOTE: If you cannot plug the AC adapter into the outlet, contactsomeone about replacing the outlet.Plug the AC Adapter into a standard 120 VAC wall outlet.Do not use an outlet controlled by a wall switch.Use only the Uniden AC Adapter supplied withthis phone.One Year Limited WarrantyImportant: Evidence of original purchase is required for warranty service.WARRANTOR: UNIDEN AMERICA CORPORATION (“Uniden”)ELEMENTS OF WARRANTY: Uniden warrants, for one year, to the originalretail owner, this Uniden Product to be free from defects in materials andcraftsmanship with only the limitations or exclusions set out below.WARRANTY DURATION: This warranty to the original user shall terminateand be of no further effect 12 months after the date of original retail sale.The warranty is invalid if the Product is (A) damaged or not maintained asreasonable or necessary, (B) modified, altered, or used as part of anyconversion kits, subassemblies, or any configurations not sold by Uniden,(C) improperly installed, (D) serviced or repaired by someone other than anauthorized Uniden service center for a defect or malfunction covered by thiswarranty, (E) used in any conjunction with equipment or parts or as part ofany system not manufactured by Uniden, or (F) installed or programmed byanyone other than as detailed by the owner’s manual for this product.STATEMENT OF REMEDY: In the event that the product does not conform tothis warranty at any time while this warranty is in effect, warrantor willeither, at its option, repair or replace the defective unit and return it to youwithout charge for parts, service, or any other cost (except shipping andhandling) incurred by warrantor or its representatives in connection withthe performance of this warranty.
