Use it at sportingevents, to stay in contact with family andfriends, hiking, skiing, outdoors, or in a neighborhood watch for vital communication.PACKAGE CONTENTSYour package contains the 2 GMR535 radios,this reference guide and 2 belt clips. You willneed to purchase 6 AAA alkaline batteries inorder to operate these units.FCC GMRS LICENSEThe GMR535-2 radio operates on the GeneralMobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencieswhich require a Federal CommunicationsCommission license to operate. Ifyou have any questions you can contact theFCC direct at 1-888-225-5322.INSTALL THE OPTIONAL BATTERIESYour GMR535-2 radio uses 3 AAA alkaline batteries (not included) for power. We recommend using high quality alkaline batteries.To install the batteries:1) Make sure your radio is OFF.2) Remove the battery compartment door by pressing on and sliding the compartmentdoor, and remove the cover.3) Install 3 AAA Alkaline batteries (not included) into the battery compartment. Becertain to follow the + and – symbols in the compartment. Installing the batteries incorrectly will prevent the unit from operating.4) Replace the battery compartment door by sliding the door into place.USING THE RADIOIn order to get the most out of your new radio, readthis reference guide completely before attempting tooperate the radio.Turning the Radio On and Adjusting the Volume1) Press and hold the  key to turn the radio ON.2) To change the volume level press the vol/mon ▲or ▼key to increase or decrease the volumelevel.3) Press and hold the  key to turn the radio OFF.Adjusting the Sound (Key Beeps)Your radio emits a beep each time one of the keys(except for the PTT button and call/lock key) ispressed. The sound of the Key Beep will increase ordecrease depending on the volume level setting.To turn OFF this beep:Press and hold the call/lock key while turning ONthe radio.To turn ON this beep:Turn the radio OFF and ON again without pressingthe call/lock key.Choosing a ChannelYour GMR535-2 radio has 22 channels you canuse to talk to others. In order to speak to someone,each of you must be set to the same channel.To choose a channel:Press the ch/scan ▲or ▼key to increase ordecrease the channel number displayed.Channel Scan FeatureYour GMR535-2 radio has a channel scan featurethat allows you to easily scan all 22 channels. Whenan active channel is detected, the unit pauses onthat channel until the channel is clear. Then after a 2second delay, the radio continues scanning.Pressing PTT button while the scan is paused on achannel will allow you to transmit on that channel.To turn ON channel scan:Press and hold either the ch/scan ▲or ▼key for3 seconds. The channel number on the display willrapidly cycle through the channels.To turn OFF channel scanning:Press either the ch/scan ▲or ▼key.Talking on Your RadioTo talk to others using the radio:1) Press and hold the PTT button and speak in aclear, normal voice about 2-3 inches away fromthe microphone.While you are transmitting, the tx icon is displayed. To avoid cutting off the first part ofyour transmission, pause slightly after pressingthe PTT button before you start talking.2) When you are finished speaking, release thePTT button. You can now receive incoming calls.While receiving, the rx icon is displayed.Transmitting a Call Alert ToneYour GMR535-2 radio is equipped with a call tonethat will be transmitted when the call/lock key ispressed.To transmit the call tone, tap the call/lock key. Thetone will be transmitted.Auto Squelch FeatureThe GMR535-2 is equipped with an automaticsquelch system which shuts off weak transmissionsand unwanted noise due to terrain conditions or ifyou have reached your range limit.Monitor Mode FeatureYour GMR535-2 radio allows you to listen for weak signals on the current channel at the press of a key.To turn ON monitor mode:Press and hold the vol/mon ▲or ▼key.The rx icon will blink.To turn OFF monitor mode:Press the vol/mon ▲or ▼key. The rx icon willstop blinking and disappears.Automatic Power Save FeatureYour GMR535-2 has a unique circuit designed to dramatically extend the life of the batteries. If there isneither a transmission nor an incoming call within 2 seconds, your radio switches to the Power Save mode.The radio is still able to receive transmissions in thismode.KEYLOCK ON/OFFPress and hold the call/lock key until the "L"appears. When Roger beep is set to ON and Key BeepOFF, Roger Beep will not be heard from the speaker but it will be transmitted to your party.When Roger Beep is set to OFF, Roger Beep neither be heard nor transmitted.To turn OFF Roger Beep:Press and hold the ch/scan ▲key while turningON the radio.To turn ON Roger Beep:Turn the radio OFF and ON again without pressingch/scan ▲key.Note: If you press either the ch/scan ▲or ▼key while the unit is pausing on a channel, scanning will resume.UT01020ZZ_1  11/17/05  10:35 AM  Page 1

Constructioncrews often use remote control RF devices to setoff explosives.Care and Safety: To clean the radio, use a softcloth dampened with water. Do not use cleaners orsolvents because they can harm the body of theunit and leak inside, causing permanent damage.Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the battery contacts. Do not submerge the unit in water. If theunit gets wet, turn it off and remove the batteriesimmediately.Dry the battery compartment with a soft cloth tominimize potential water damage. Leave the batterycompartment cover off overnight to ensure complete drying.
