3Setting Up Your HandsetInstall the BatteryUnpack the handset, battery pack, andbattery cover. If the battery cover isalready on the handset, press in onthe notch and slide the cover downand off.Line up the battery packconnector with the jack insidethe handset. (The batteryconnector only fits one way.)Push the battery packconnector in until it clicks intoplace. Tug gently on the wiresto make sure the battery packis securely connected. Place the cover over the batterycompartment and slide it up intoplace.Connect the ChargerConnect the AC adapter tothe charger'sAC IN 6.5Vjackand route the cord as shown.(This adapter might alreadybe connected.)Plug the other end of theadapter into a standard 120VAC power outlet.1.2.3.4.1.2.

Registering the handset is a separate process from registering the Ultra-Range charger. You can use the handset normally even if the charger is not registered.Compatible BasesThis handset is designed for use with Uniden's DECT4066,DECT4086, and DECT4096 bases. Other Uniden DECT6.0bases might be compatible with this handset. For the mostup-to-date list of compatible bases for this handset, see ourwebsite.Register the handsetIn most cases, all you need to do is place the handset in thebase. The display should sayHandset Registering.If the handset doesn't fit in the base cradle or if the base hasa corded handset, follow the steps below:3.
5On the base, open the menu and selectRegister Handset.The display should sayPress & Hold Handset "#" or Repeater "reg".On the handset, press and holdPOUND (#) until thehandset display saysHandset Registering (about 5seconds).After about 30 seconds, the handset display should say Registration Complete.Test the connectionPick up the handset and pressTALK. Make sure you get adial tone. (PressENDto hang up.)If... Try...you don't hear a dial tonethe display says Registration Failed--Making sure the handset is fully charged, then trying again.Using the HandsetWhen the handset registers to a base, it adapts itssoftware to match that specific base. This means thatthe exact features and operation of the handset will varyslightly depending on which base you register the handsetto. 7Each of these bases can support up to two DRX402 Ultra-Range chargers, including any that were supplied withyour phone.Usually, you can't tell when a handset switches betweenthe base and the charger in the middle of a call, butsometimes, you might notice a brief pause in yourconversation.Registering the Ultra-Range chargerRegistering the Ultra-Range charger is a separate process from registering the handset. You can use the charger even if the handset is not registered.On the base, open the menu and selectRegister Handset.On the bottom of the Ultra-Range charger, press andhold the registration buttonuntil theLINKlight starts toblink (about 2 seconds).Release the button and waitfor theLINKlight to turn onand steady (this can takeabout 90 seconds).If theLINKlight doesn't turn on,disconnect the charger's AC adapter.Wait about ten seconds, then try thesesteps again.Some important things to remember:Only register one charger at a time. If more than onecharger is in registration mode at the same time, they caninterfere with each other.If you want to use the Ultra-Range charger with a differentbase, just register the charger to the new base. 8chargerautomaticallyerasesthelinktotheoldbasewhenitregisterstothenewone.Onlyregisterchargerstoonebaseatatime.Ifmorethanonebaseisinregistrationmodeatthesametime,youcan'tcontrolwhichbasethechargerregistersto.Placing the Ultra-Range chargerHereareafewtipsforplacingyourUltra-Rangechargersothatyougettheclearestsignalandthemaximumrange:Makesureyouhavegoodreceptionfrom thebasePutthechargerat least 35 feetawayfrom thebaseoranyothercharger.(Ifyouputthechargeronadifferentfloorfromthebase,don'tforgettoallow35feetvertically,also.)Ifpossible,mountthechargeronthewall.Picking the best spotThebestspotfortheUltra-Rangechargerisasfarfrom thebaseaspossiblewhilestillmaintainingagoodsignal,orneartheedgeofthebase’scoveragearea.Tofindtheedgeofthecoveragearea:Standnearthebaseandmakeacallonthehandset.Whileonthecall,carrythehandsetawayfromthebasetowardsthegeneralareawhereyouwanttoputthecharger.Watchthesignalstrengthicononthehandset.Makeanotewheretheicondropsfrom4barsto3bars.1.2.3.
9Continue walking away from the base. Make a notewhere the signal strength icon drops from 3 bars to 2 orif you start to hear noise on the line (which indicates thesignal is getting weaker).Place the charger anywhere inside the range where thesignal strength icon showed 3 bars and the handset hada clear signal with no noise.Testing the locationConnect the charger's AC adapter and make sure theLINKlight comes on steadily. If the light flashes, the Ultra-Rangecharger is not getting a good signal from the base. Thecharger may be too far away from the base, there may beinterference from electronic devices, or the signal mightbe blocked by thick walls or metal objects. Try moving thecharger to another location.Wall Mounting the Ultra-Range chargerIf you want mount the charger on the wall, you need to adjustthe desk stand:Pull the locking tabup and back (seethe black arrow inthe illustration to theright), and slide thedesk stand straightoff.Flip the stand overso the locking tabsthat sayWALLarefacing the chargerwith the arrows pointing down.4.5.1.2.
10Align the stand with thenotches on thecharger.Slide the standonto the notchesuntil it clicks intoplace.Insert two #10screws into thewall, 30 mmapart. (For bestresults, use alevel to ensurethe screws areeven.)Remember to use appropriate anchors for the wall material.Keeping the ACadapter cord out of the way, place the charger over thescrew heads and slide it down into place.Switching back to the desk standIf you want to switch back to using the charger on a desktop:Remove the stand.Rotate the stand so that the locking tabs that sayDESKare facing the charger with the arrows pointing up.Align the stand with the notches on the base.Slide the stand onto the notches until it clicks into place.3.4.5.6.1.2.3.4.

If youhear a strange beep during a call, check the display: ifyou see the low battery alert, finish your conversation asquickly as possible and return the handset to the cradle. Ifthe handset is in standby, none of the keys will operate.
12With normal use, the battery should last about one year.Replace the battery when the talk time becomes shorteven when the battery is charged.
