Prop your elbows against your sides and move the camera slowly in a small circle at a steady speed, keeping the camera parallel or at right angles to the horizon and being careful only to pan in the direction shown by the guides. Use a tripod for best results. If the desired results are not achieved, try panning at a different speed. O If the shutter button is pressed all the way down before the panorama is complete, shooting will end and no panorama may be recorded. Shooting may also be interrupted if the camera is panned too quickly or too slowly. Panning the camera in a direction other than that shown cancels shooting. Panoramas are created from multiple frames; if ON is selected for D BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > SHUTTER AE, exposure for the entire panorama is determined by the first frame. The camera may in some cases record an greater or lesser angle than selected or be unable to stitch the frames together perfectly. The last part of the panorama may not be recorded if shooting ends before the panorama is complete. Taking Photographs The desired results may not be achieved with moving subjects, subjects close to the camera, unvarying subjects such as the sky or a field of grass, subjects that are in constant motion, such as waves and waterfalls, or subjects that undergo marked changes in brightness. Panoramas may be blurred if the subject is poorly lit. 90 Panoramas Viewing Panoramas In full-frame playback, you can use the rear command dial to zoom panoramas in or out. Alternatively, you can play the panorama back using the selector. PLAY STOP PAUSE Press the selector down to start playback and press again to pause. O A tripod is recommended for shots taken using the electronic shutter. Distortion may be visible in shots of moving subjects and in hand-held shots taken at high shutter speeds, while banding and fog may occur in shots taken under fluorescent lights or other flickering or erratic illumination. In the case of the electronic front-curtain shutter, faster shutter speeds are more likely to result in uneven exposure and loss of resolution in out-of-focus areas of the frame. When taking pictures with the shutter muted, respect your subjectsâ image rights and right to privacy. N When the electronic shutter is used, the flash is disabled, sensitivity is restricted to values of ISO 12800â200, and long exposure noise reduction has no effect. 127 The Shooting Menus If s ELECTRONIC SHUTTER, u MECHANICAL + ELECTRONIC, or w E-FRONT + MECHANICAL + ELECTRONIC is selected, shutter speeds faster than 1â8000 s can be chosen by rotating the shutter speed dial to 8000 and then rotating the rear command dial (P 284).
