Wednesday, May 12, 2004 TUV Product Services 10040 Mesa Rim Road San Diego, CA 92121 RE: FCC ID EZSDEI487 Dear Sir or Madam, This letter is to address the following for the 487VPX transceivers: 1. Learn routine for replacement transmitters 2. System transmission frequency range 3. Data transmission duty cycle description 4. Manuals 1. Refer to installation guide pages 35 to 38. 2. This transmitter is a single frequency device. It has a crystal controlled PLL which generates the RF carrier. The crystal based oscillator can maintain a center frequency of 433.92MHz within a +/-35KHz tolerance. The receiver operated by this transmitter is a single band receiver tuned to 433.92MHz and only capable of receiving this frequency. 3. The 487VPX is a data transmission device. Its protocol consists of 12 preamble bits (400us each) and 66 data bits (400us or 800us each, they are random) for a total of 78 bits. So the calculation for the duty cycle becomes: (12 x 400us)+(66x800us)= 57.60ms within a 100ms period The worst case scenario calculation is assured by the fact that we used 800us for all 66 data bits as they can be either 400us or 800us. 4. There are no dedicated manuals for this device. The 487VPX transceiver is part of several car alarm and remote start systems. Included are the installation and owner’s guides for the system with the most features which is representative of other, less feature rich systems. The owner’s guide of all systems have a section covering the operation of the transceiver. Please refer to pages 5 to 12 in the owner’s guide.
    Sincerely, Minas Minassian RF Engineer

The brakepedal will shut down the motor at any time during remote startoperation, as well as preventing the remote start from activatingwhile it is being pressed.nuisance prevention circuitryYour system has Directed’s Nuisance Prevention Circuitry™(NPC™). It prevents annoying repetitive trigger sequences due tofaulty door pin switches or environmental conditions such asthunder, jackhammers, airport noise, etc.ExampleIf the alarm triggers three times within a 60-minute period andeach time the same sensor or switch triggers the alarm, NPC™will interpret those triggers as false alarms. After the third trigger,NPC™ignores, or bypasses, that sensor or switch (along with anyother sensors or switches sharing the same zone) for 60 minutes. If the bypassed sensor tries to trigger the security system while itis being bypassed, the 60-minute bypass period will start over. This ensures that a sensor that is continually being triggered willremain bypassed.➜➜

Most options do not require additional parts, but somemay require installation labor. The following is a list of the programmable options, with thefactory settings in Bold.➤AAccttiivveearming (2-way remote only) or passive arming (auto-matic arming 30 seconds after the last door has been closed).➤Arming/disarming siren chirps oonnor off.➤The ignition controlled door lock feature oonnor off: Whenthis feature is programmed on, the doors will lock threeseconds after the ignition is turned on, and unlock when theignition is turned off. If your installer is programming thesecurity system with the Directed Bitwriter, ignition lockand unlock are independent features that can beprogrammed separately.
39© 2004 directed electronics, inc.➤Passive door locking (with passive arming) or aaccttiivvee ddoooorrlloocckkiinngg(only when arming with the 2-way remote). Passivelocking allows the vehicle's doors to lock when the securitysystem passively arms (after the 30-second countdown). Thisfeature only works if passive arming has been programmed.➤Panic mode eennaabblleedd/disabled when the ignition is turned on.(Some states have laws against sirens sounding in moving cars.)➤Forced passive arming oonnor off. If your security system isprogrammed for passive arming and the forced passivearming feature has been programmed on, the system willpassively arm after one hour, even if a protected entry hasbeen left open. Forced passive arming ensures that thesystem will be armed if a door has accidentally been left ajarwhen leaving the vehicle.➤Full trigger response 3300or 60 seconds: This determines howlong the full triggered sequence lasts. Some states have lawsregulating how long a security system can sound before it isconsidered a nuisance. If your installer is programming thesecurity system with the Directed Bitwriter, the full triggeredresponse can be programmed for any duration ranging from1 to 180 seconds.note: When the system passively arms after one hour, theentry point that has been left open, and anything con-nected to the same zone, is bypassed and cannot triggerthe system. However, the remaining inputs to the systemare fully operational.
40 © 2004 directed electronics, inc.➤Automatic Engine Disable (AED) on or ooffff. The purpose ofthis feature is to protect the vehicle from being stolen at alltimes, regardless of whether or not the alarm is armed. IfAED is programmed on, the starter of the vehicle will bedisabled 30 seconds after the ignition is turned off. Once thekey is turned off, the in-vehicle status LED will flash slowly(one-half its normal armed rate) to indicate the AED armingcycle. Thirty seconds later, the starter will be disabled. Tostart the car, it will be necessary to disarm the system with the2-way remote. It is also possible to disarm the AED featureby turning the ignition key to the RUN position and pressingthe Valet®button the programmed number of times. AED isalso disabled when the system is in Valet®mode.➤Siren tones and chirp volume. The output of the Revenger™Soft Chirp™siren consists of six different tones in sequence.Any of these tones can be eliminated by a dealer, resulting in aunique, easily identifiable siren sound. The chirps can be eitherfull volume or 66 ddeecciibbeellss qquuiieetteerr than the full alarm blast. ➤The engine can be programmed to run for any durationranging from 1 to 60 minutes. 1122 mmiinnuutteessis the default. After the programmed run time, the engine will shut downand will not restart, unless in Timer Mode.➤While the remote start system is running the engine, theparking lights of the vehicle can ffllaasshh oonn aanndd ooffffor come onand light steadily.note: This feature will only function if the FailSafe®Starter Kill relay has been installed.

The 506T audiosensor uses a microphone to pick up sounds, then analyzes themwith proprietary acoustic software to determine if the glass hasbeen struck.Backup Battery:The 520T keeps the system armed, triggers thealarm and keeps the starter interrupt active if main battery is dis-connected.Hood Lock:Prevents the vehicle’s hood from being openedwithout a key, keeping thieves away from the system’s siren, thebattery connections, and other components under the hood.Field Disturbance Sensor:An invisible dome of coverage is estab-lished by installing the 508D “radar” sensor. Your system can reactto any intrusions into this field with the full triggered sequence.Power Locks:This system offers lock outputs that can controlsome manufacturers' power door lock systems. For othersystems, additional parts may be required.Power Trunk Release:The accessory output of the system can op-erate a factory power release for the vehicle’s trunk or hatch.Although the on-board relay can control most power trunk re-
42 © 2004 directed electronics, inc.leases, sometimes an optional relay is required. If the factoryrelease is not power-activated, Directed®'s 522T trunk releasesolenoid can often be added.Power Window Control:Automatic power window control is pro-vided with the 529T and 530T systems. These can operatepower windows, and can roll them up automatically when thesystem is armed, roll them down, or both up and down.Mobile Video:This system is compatible with Directed Video’sMCB1000 Multi-Channel Controller, featuring on-screen secu-rity system programming and zone trigger information.gglloossssaarryy ooff tteerrmmss2-Way Remote: Hand-held, 2-way transceiver which operates thevarious functions of your system.Control Unit:The “brain” of your system. Usually hidden under-neath the dash area of the vehicle. The control unit houses themicroprocessor which monitors your vehicle and controls allsystem functions.
43© 2004 directed electronics, inc.Fault-Proof Starter Interrupt:An automatic switch controlled byyour system that prevents the vehicle’s starter from crankingwhenever the system is armed. The vehicle is never preventedfrom cranking when the system is disarmed, in Valet®Mode, orif the starter interrupt switch itself fails. Your system has feature-ready circuitry for the starter interrupt, however installation mayrequire additional labor.Input:A physical connection to the system. An input can beprovided by a sensor, pinswitch or by existing systems in thevehicle, such as ignition or courtesy lights.In-vehicle status LED:A light mounted at a discretionary locationinside the vehicle. It is used to indicate the status of your system.Shock Sensor:This system has a dual zone shock sensor. Thissensor is mounted in the vehicle and designed to pick up impactsto the vehicle or glass.2-Way Remote:A hand-held, remote control which operates thevarious functions of your system.Trigger or Triggered Sequence:This is what happens when thealarm “goes off” or “trips.” The triggered sequence of yoursystem consists of the siren sounding and parking lights flashingfor the programmed duration.Valet®Button:A small push button switch mounted at a discre-tionary location inside the vehicle. It is used to override thestarter interrupt when a 2-way remote is lost or damaged, or toenter or exit Valet®Mode.
44 © 2004 directed electronics, inc.Warning Zone Response:Lighter impacts to the vehicle willgenerate the Warning Zone response. It consists of severalseconds of siren chirps and parking light flashes.Zone:A zone is a separate input that the alarm can recognize asunique. Each input to the system is connected to a particularzone. Often two or more inputs may share the same zone.
