The VTech® Turn-A-Word Apple™ is an interactive learning toy for toddlers 12 months and up. Spin the blocks and start learning! Each block teaches letters, colors, animals, sounds and silly sentences. The brightly colored graphics help reinforce the learning with printed letters and characters related to the silly sentences. The friendly insect characters play fun sounds, sing the alphabet song and encourage your child to find animals. GETTING STARTED BATTERY INSTALLATION 1. Make sure the unit is turned OFF. 2. Locate the battery cover on the back of the unit.Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw. 3. Install 2 new “AA” (UM-3/LR6) batteries following the diagram inside the battery box. (The use of new alkaline batteries is recommended for maximum performance.) 4. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw to secure the battery cover. BATTERY NOTICE 63100 manual • Install batteries correctly observing the polarity (+, -) signs to avoid leakage. • Do not mix old and new batteries. • Do not use batteries of different types. • Remove batteries from the equipment when the unit will not be used for an extended period of time. 3 9/16/04, 8:49 AM 3 Do not dispose of batteries in fire. • Do not attempt to recharge ordinary batteries. • The supply terminals are not to be short-circuited. • Only batteries of the same and equivalent type as recommended are to be used. • Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickelcadmium) batteries. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THE USE OF RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES. PRODUCT FEATURES 1. ON/OFF BUTTON To turn the unit ON, press the ON/OFF BUTTON ( ). To turn the unit OFF, press the ON/OFF BUTTON ( ) a second time. 2. VOLUME CONTROL SWITCH To adjust the volume, slide the VOLUME CONTROL SWITCH on the back of the unit to the ( ) position for HIGH VOLUME or the ( ) for LOW VOLUME. 3. AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF Instructions & Activities • To preserve battery life, the VTech® Turn-A-Word Apple™ learning toy will automatically power-down after several seconds without input. The unit can be turned on by pressing the on/off button. 4 63100 manual 4 9/16/04, 8:49 AM ACTIVITIES 1. Press the on/off button to turn the unit on. You will hear a friendly phrase and song. The worm will flash with the sound. Instructions & Activities 2. Spin the blocks to hear a variety of responses, including letters, silly sentences, colors, animals, and sounds. The worm will flash with the sounds. 3. Spin more than one block at the same time to hear a portion of The Alphabet Song. The worm will flash with the sounds. 4. Press one of the three insect buttons to hear random sounds, questions or The Alphabet Song. The worm will flash with the sounds. 5 63100 manual 5 9/16/04, 8:49 AM 6. If there is no input to the unit after approximately 5 seconds, you will hear a sung song. If there is no input after another 5 seconds, you will hear questions such as “Can you find the brown bear?” or “Can you find the elephant with the flute?” If there is no input after another 5 seconds, you will hear a silly sound. If there continues to be no input, the unit will automatically power-down. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away from any direct heat source. 3. Remove the batteries when the unit is not in use for an extended period of time. 4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit to moisture or water. TROUBLESHOOTING If for some reason the program/activity stops working or malfunctions, please follow these steps: 1. Please turn the unit OFF. 2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries. 3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries. 4. Turn the unit ON. The unit should now be ready to play again. 5. If the product still does not work, replace with a new set of batteries.
