4USB TABLET INSTALLATIONI                              FOR WINDOWSTablet installation steps1 Plug LLC Tablet into an active USB port on your computer oran active USB hub. If your computer is off, turn it on nowand allow the oprtating system to fully load.2 LLC Tablet software installation stepsFor Windows 98:1The NEW HARDWARE FOUND dialog box will display, followed bythe ADD NEW HARDWARE Wizard. Click Next. If the dialog doesnot display, your computer may not be USB Ready.2Follow the prompts, making sure to select the default options.Note: You may be prompted to insert the Windows 98 CD. Please have yourWindows 98 CD available. If Windows 98 came bundled with your computer, theWindows 98 CAB files may be located on your hard disk or system recovery CD.When prompted, click OK. Enter the location for the Windows CAB files (e.g.,d:\win98). Click OK, and then Finish. Reinsert the LLC Tablet CD if necessary.3Insert the LLC Tablet CD into the CD-ROM drive.4Double-click on the software SETUP icon located on the LLC Tablet CD and followthe prompts.For Windows 2000:LLC Tablet will automatically register as a USB device and the LED will light.1Insert the LLC Tablet CD into the CD-ROM drive.2Double-click on the software SETUP icon located on the LLC Tablet CD and followthe prompts.3 After completing the LLC Tablet software installation, you should be able to useyour LLC Tablet Pen on the tablet to move the screen cursor with absolutepositioning.A WACOM TABLET group was created in the START menu under PROGRAMS (seePage 4). 6USB TABLET INSTALLATIONI                              FOR MACINTOSHUSB ports support hot-plluging so you can connect or disconnect LLC Tabletwithout turning off your computer.If you are using an iMac, refer to the iMac Requirements section before installingLLC Tablet.1Plug the LLC Tablet USB connector into a USB port onyour computer or into an active USB hub.2If your computer is off, turn it on now. The tabletLED will light to indicate LLC Tablet has registered as aUSB device.  If the LED does not light, your USB portmay not be functioning properly; refer to the TROUBLESHOOTING chapter.LLC Tablet is working in mouse emulation mode. 7iMac RequirementsLLC Tablet requires Mac OS 8.5 and Mac OS ROM 1.2.1 or greater.1Verify the Mac OS and ROM versions: Click on the Apple icon and select ABOUTTHIS COMPUTER....  The ABOUT THIS COMPUTER dialog will appear with the OS ver-sion displayed in the top right corner.  Mac OS 8.5 or greater is required.  If theversion shown is older than Mac OS 8.5, contact your local computer dealer topurchase an upgrade.If Mac OS ROM version 1.2.1 or greater displays under the Mac OS version.your iMac does not need the firmware or OS ROM update.  If it does notappear or an older Mac OS ROM os installed, continue with the instructionsbelow to install the IMAC FIRMWARE UPDATE and then install IMAC UPDATE 1.1.2Install the iMac firmware update:  In the APPLE IMAC UPDATES folder located in theLLC Tablet CD, double-click on the IMAC FIRMWARE UPDATE icon.  This will de-compress the file.  Within the open folder that appears on the desktop, double-click on the IMAC FIRMWARE UPDATE icon and follow the prompts.  If in doubt,install this update.3Install iMac Update 1.1:  Install IMAC UPDATE 1.1 by double-clicking on the IMACUPDATE 1.1 icon located in the APPLE IMAC UPDATEs folder.  This will decompressthe file.  Within the open folder that appears on the desktop, double-click onthe IMAC UPDATE icon and follow the prompts. 8USING THE LLC TABLET PENAND CORDLESS MOUSEPointing and selecting.Move the LLC Tablet Penabove the tablet surface toposition the screen cursor,then press the pen tip on thetablet to make a selection.Clicking. Tap the tablet oncewith the pen tip.Double-clicking. Press theupper side switch (Windows)or lower side switch(Macintosh), or quickly tapthe tablet twice in the sameplace with the pen tip.Dragging. Select an object,then slide the pen tip acrossthe tablet surface to move theobject.Erasing. In support-ing applications, thepen’s eraser workslike the eraser on apencil. In text appli-cations, use theeraser to select text,then lift the eraserfrom the tablet to de-lete the text.Using the LLC Tablet Cordless Mouse. Place the Cordless Mouse on the tablet.The screen cursor is positioned when you move the Cordless Mouse across thetablet surface. 9CUSTOMIZING YOUR LLC TAB-LET TOOLS ——— THE BASICSThe Wacom control panel makes it easy to customize your LLC Tablet tools.To open the control panel:Windows. Click on the Windows Start button and choose Programs. From theWacom Tablet group, choose the Wacom Tablet option.Macintosh. From the Apple menu, choose Control Panels and then WacomTablet.When you open the control panel with the LLC Tablet Pen or Cordless Mouse, thetool is automatically selected in the Tool List and the appropriate tabs are dis-played. To customize the selected tool, make your changes to the tab controls. OnWindows systems, be sure to click Apply or OK to save your changes.Note: Application-specific settings are for advanced users. Refer to the onlineUser’s Manual or Help for more information on creating and using application-specific settings.Tabs display settings forthe selected applicationand tool.Copies settings from one toolor application to another.Returns a tab to its previ-ously saved or last appliedsettings.Resets the selected tab toits factory default values.The pull-down menus access avariety of control panel features.Displays applications thathave custom tool settingsassociated with them.Displays tools that can be customized forthe application selected above.Windows onlyOK saves changes andcloses the control panel.Cancel closes the controlpanel without savingchanges.Apply saves changes with-out closing the controlpanel.Displays online Help forthe control panel.These buttons are for creating application-specific settings. 10Check if there is an available USB port on a USB hub. Ifnone are available you will need to add a USB hub.Open the Wacom control panel and go to the tool's TIP FEEL tab.Move the TIP PRESSURE FEEL slider toward Firm, or select the MoreOptions button and increase the Click Force setting.Be sure you press the side switch when the pen tip is inproximity--do this without pressing down on the pen tip.From the Wacom control panel, verify that the side switchis set to the proper function for the application and tool thatyou are using.  Make sure the tablet status LED changesfrom orange to green when you press the side switch.  If itdoes not, you may have defective hardware (See also thelast part of this section).Make sure that you change the settings for the tool and theapplication that you are using.  See Working with GraphierTools and Working with Application-Specific Settings in theonline Help or LLC Tablet User's Manual.Do not place the LLC Tablet Pen or Cordless Mouse on thetablet when using another pointing device. Leaving your tool on the tablet may interfere with screencursor positioning when using other input devices.Be sure you are quickly tapping the tablet twice in the sameplace on the tablet's active area.  Wacom recommends us-ing the side switch to double-click .Try increasing the DOUBLE-CLICK DISTANCE or reducing thedouble-click speed (see ADJUSTING DOUBLE-CLICK in the ONLINEHELP).Try using a lighter TIP PRESSURE FEEL (see ADJUSTING TIP FEEL inthe ONLINE HELP).The computer does nothave an available USB port.The LLC Tablet Pen selectseverything, will not stopdrawing.The side switch does notwork.Changing the function set-tings for the LLC Tablettools has no effect.The screen cursor jumpsback.Double-clicking is difficult.General Problems            SYMPTOM       HINTTROUBLE SHOOTINGTROUBLE SHOOTING LLCENSTDApply.pm65J 02.5.22, 10:13 AM10
11Make sure all USB cables are securely connected to an ac-tive USB port.  Try connecting to the USB port on anothercomputer if available.If the tablet’s status LED does not illuminate after your com-puter is on and has finished booting up, your USB port maybe inactive. LLC Tablet USB tablets require Windows 98. Ifyou upgraded your computer to Windows 98, verify thatthe USB ports are enabled in the BIOS and that all neces-sary system software has been installed. Refer to your sys-tem documentation or contact your system manufacturerfor information on enabling USB support for your com-puter.Run the USB Ready utility located on the LLC Tablet CD tocheck if your system is USB ready. If your system is not USBready, correctly configure your USB port and install thenecessary USB system software, then restart your computer.The NEW HARDWARE FOUND dialog should appear andyou can continue with the LLC Tablet installation.The USB tablet power lightis not on.Make sure the status LED changes from orange to greenwhen the tip is pressed.  If it does not, you may have defec-tive hardware (See also the last part of this section).Check the control panel's TOOL BUTTONS tab and verify thatthe tip is assigned to a LEFT CLICK  (CLICK for Macintosh) function.In the Wacom control panel, try decreasing the DOUBLE-CLICK DISTANCE or increasing the double-click speed (see AD-JUSTING DOUBLE-CLICK in the ONLINE HELP). If that does notwork, try unchecking the DOUBLE-CLICK ASSIST checkbox.Open the Wacom control panel and go to the tool’s TIPFEEL tab. Move the TIP PRESSURE FEEL slider towardSOFT, or select the MORE OPTIONS button and decreasethe CLICK FORCE setting.See TROUBLE SHOOTING in the English LLC Tablet user'smanual to test your tablet.  See APPENDIX in this manualfor product support.The LLC Tablet Pen tipdoes not function.Within a graphics applica-tion, you notice a screendelay while drawing lineson the tablet.You have to press hardwith the LLC Tablet Penwhen clicking or drawing.The tablet hardware seemsdefective. 12This will reverse the right and left button settings on yourWacom tools.Restart Windows for your Wacom tool settings to be cor-rectly recognized.Open the Wacom control panel and go to the MAPPINGtab. Verify that PEN MODE is selected and that the DIS-PLAY AREA is set to ENTIRE DISPLAY for the selected tooland application. If this does not help, click on the RESETTAB TO DEFAULTS button to reestablish tablet to screenmapping. If this does not work, open the Windows folderand delete the WACOM.DAT file. Then restart your com-puter. When the tablet driver loads, it will create a newpreferences file with the factory default settings.If you have had another manufacturer's tablet, and the driv-ers are still loaded on your system, uninstall these driversaccording to their manufacturer's instructions and reinstallthe LLC Tablet driver.ACECAT: Edit your SYSTEM.INI.  Go to the drivers=line inthe [boot] section and remove awintab.  Then go to the[drivers] section and remove the awintab=awintab.drv line.Look also for any reference to Virtual Tablet and remove it.Save the changes and restart Windows.KURTA: Edit your SYSTEM.INI by looking for any referencesto wtkurta and removing them.  Save the changes and re-start Windows.When the CLOSE PROGRAM dialog box (Windows 95, 98or Me) or the TASK MANAGER (Windows NT) is active, theWacom tablet will not work. Use your mouse or keyboardto continue. When this dialog box is closed, you can againuse your LLC Tablet tool to control the screen cursor.After switching to left-handed mouse in theMouse control panel, thepen tip no longer works asa left clickCannot move the cursorwhere you want to on thescreen, or the line you aredrawing does not line upwith the location of thepointer in paint applica-tions.When the pen tip contactsthe tablet surface, the cur-sor jumps to the top leftcorner of the screen, or themessage, "Unable to imple-ment function", appears inthe Wacom control panel.After pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, the screen cur-sor cannot be controlledwith your LLC Tablet tool. 13Windows 98 or Me. Whenworking with multiplemonitors, the screen cursorpositioning is incorrect af-ter moving into the un-mapped area of the virtualdesktop.After changing the resolu-tion of a monitor or thealignment of the monitorson a multiple monitor sys-tem, a portion of the tabletor monitor is not accessibleand the tablet to displaymapping is incorrect.Windows NT. Application-specific settings do notwork correctly or bluescreen crash occurs.In Windows 95, 98 or Me,your LLC Tablet tool doesnot function inside a fullscreen DOS window.On a multiple monitor system, the tablet is mapped to thevirtual desktop (a rectangular area covering all monitors).In the Wacom control panel’s PORTION OF DISPLAY dia-log box, the screen rectangle represents the entire virtualdesktop.If your video display areas do not form a rectangle becausethey are different sizes or they are not evenly aligned, thescreen cursor positioning will be incorrect after moving intothe unmapped area of the virtual desktop. To reestablishthe correct screen cursor position, lift your LLC Tablet toolout of tablet proximity and bring it back into proximity overan area of the tablet that is mapped to a display area.To reestablish the correct tablet to display mapping, openthe Wacom control panel. Select the MAPPING tab, andchoose ENTIRE DISPLAY.Click OK to close the control panel, then restart your com-puter.You must update the operating system with Service Pack 3(SP3) or later in order for application-specific settings towork correctly.Running your LLC Tablet software on a Windows NT 4.0system that is not updated to SP3 may cause you to experi-ence a blue screen crash.You must use a mouse when working in a full screen DOSwindow.TROUBLE SHOOTING            SYMPTOM      HINTLLCENSTDApply.pm65J 02.5.22, 10:13 AM13
14Make sure all USB cables are securely connected to an ac-tive USB port.■If you have an iMac, you will need Macintosh OS 8.5 andMac OS ROM 1.2.1  Refer to the iMac Update instructionsfor information on running the iMac Update software lo-cated on the LLC Tablet CD.■If you added a USB interface card you must also installsystem software to support the USB card.  If yourcompter came from the factory with a USB port installed,it should be USB ready.■Plug in a different USB device to verify that the USB portis functional.The tablet was not detected at startup.  Make sure all cablesare securely connected and that the status LED on the tabletis orange.  If this does not correct the problem, see TestingYour LLC Tablet in the electronic LLC Tablet user's Manual.If you are using an iMac, install the iMac Firmware Updateand iMac Update 1.1 located in the LLC Tablet CD.  Theninstal the LLC Tablet software.If the LLC Tablet software was not installed or did not loadproperly, the tablet will function in mouse emulation modeand pressure support will not be available.  If the driver wasnot installed, complete the software installation.  If thedriver failed to load, see Resolving Software Conflicts in theelectronic LLC Tablet User's Manual.Open the Wacom contorl panel and go to the MAPPING tab.Verify that PenMode is selected,  If this does not help, theWacom preference file may be corrupted.  Click on theRESET TAB TO DEFAULTS button to reestablish tablet to screenmapping.If this does not work, from the System Folder open thePreferences and Tablet folder.  From the Tablet folder, dragthe Tablet Preferences file into the trash.  Then restart yourcomputer.  When the tablet driver loads, it will create a newpreferences file with the factory dafault settings. This License is governed by the laws of the United States of America and thestate of California except in Asia Pacific and by the laws of Japan for Asia Pacific.LIMITED WARRANTYWacom warrants the product, except for the Software, to be free from defects in materials andworkmanship under normal use and service for a period of one (1) year from the date of originalretail purchase, as evidenced by a copy of the receipt and a registration card that has beenreturned to Wacom within 30 days of purchase.The Software is licensed “as is.” Wacom makes no warranty with respect to its quality or perfor-mance. Wacom cannot guarantee you uninterrupted service or the correction of any errors.Upon discovery of a defect in the product, except in the Software, within the Warranty Period,you should contact Wacom Technical Support via telephone to obtain an RMA (Return Merchan-dise Authorization) number and instructions for shipping the product to a service location des-ignated by Wacom. You should send the product, shipping charges prepaid, to thedesignated service location, accompanied by the return authorization number, your name, ad-dress and telephone number, proof of purchase date, and a description of the defect. Wacomwill pay for return shipping by United Parcel Service or by an equivalent service as chosen byWacom.
