 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 3 Welcome to Spot  Welcome to the VS100, otherwise known as Spot.  This instruction for use document will help you learn your way around Spot so you can make the most of your screening experiences. Warnings  1. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by PediaVision could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. 2. The supplied cord set is to be used. Replacement or substitution may only be done with a CSA or UL approved hospital grade power supply/charger cord set. 3. The supplied power supply/charger may not be substituted and shall only be replaced by an approved unit supplied by PediaVision. 4. Interconnection of this medical device with other medical devices, medical used systems or non-medical devices shall be evaluated to the requirements of CSA/IEC 60601-1-1 in the end use application. 5. This equipment is ESD sensitive, do not touch connectors pins during use. 6. If the power cord or external power supply becomes damaged or its integrity is suspect or the building power receptacle outlet is ungrounded, then the Spot shall only be used with the internal battery power until replacement parts become available. 7. The operator shall not touch accessible conductive parts (ac/dc adaptor output connector, camera power input connector and USB port) and the subject simultaneously.  Opening the Box  Cut the tape and open the box.  Remove the square foam that protects Spot.  Remove Spot from the packaging.  Next, remove the accessories box, located next to Spot's foam insert.  The accessories box will include the Power Supply/Charger, Power Cord, Cleaning Cloth, Velcro Cable Straps, and this Instruction for Use document.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 4 Handling Precautions  Basic Camera Care  1. Spot is a precision instrument.  DO NOT drop it or subject it to physical shock. 2. Spot is not waterproof.  If you accidentally drop it into liquid or liquid is spilled on it, please promptly contact PediaVision Customer Service.  If minor water droplets are found on Spot, please wipe them off with a soft dry cloth. 3. DO NOT leave Spot in excessive heat such as a car or in direct sunlight.  High temperatures can cause Spot to malfunction. 4. Spot contains precision electronic circuitry.  Never attempt to disassemble Spot yourself.  This will void any warranty. 5. DO NOT use cleaners that contain organic solvents to clean Spot's body or front glass.  For stubborn dirt, try using a soft cloth with a small amount of water or a non-abrasive cleaner.  For further information on proper cleaning procedures, please contact PediaVision.  Display Care  The display on Spot is a 5” LCD display and touchscreen all-in-one.  To ensure long lasting functionality and performance, please be aware of the following:  1. DO NOT push or scratch display surface with anything hard. 2. DO NOT spill liquids on the display.  Please wipe off drops of liquid like saliva and water on LCD panel surface immediately.  Front Glass Care  Spot uses a piece of optical glass with a special coating.  If dirt or fingerprints are visible, use a soft cloth to wipe clean.  For stubborn dirt, try using a soft cloth with a small amount of water or a non-abrasive cleaner.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 5  Product Registration  Before you begin using Spot, it needs to be registered with PediaVision.  To register your device, please go to www.pediavision.com/register and provide some basic information.  This will keep you in tune with the latest software updates and our support services.  Basic Operation  This section explains preparatory steps before you start screening with Spot and basic operation.  Nomenclature
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 6 Getting Started  Charging Spot  Spot contains a rechargeable battery for mobile use.  It is recommended that you allow the system to charge for a minimum of 2 hours before first use.  To charge the battery, first connect the provided AC power cord to the provided power supply/charger.  Connect the low voltage barrel connector to Spot (refer to the Nomenclature for reference).  Finally, plug the power cable into an available AC outlet.  You may leave the charger connected to Spot to run off the AC power source.  This will help preserve the life of the battery. Powering on Spot  To power on Spot, press and release the power button.  The system will take approximately 30 seconds to complete its start-up process. Powering off Spot  To power off Spot simply press and hold the power button until the screen turns black and then release immediately. Optional Neck Strap  PediaVision offers an optional neck strap to compliment the wrist strap and to assist during extended usage.  The neck strap connects to the two tabs located below the display on Spot.  Please contact PediaVision directly for further details. Configuring a Printer  NOTE: Before setting up a printer, please see “Connecting to a Wireless Network” further in this document.  Spot must be connected to a wireless network before configuring a printer.  To setup a printer to use on Spot, you will need to be able to access the CUPS Printer configuration settings from a PC on the same network as Spot.  Keep in mind, Spot only supports printing to Hewlett-Packard (HP) networked printers.  1. To begin, go to Spot.  Enter the “Tools” menu, and select “Printer”.   2. In the Printer menu, you will find the printer setup URL (example: http://192.168.1.10:631/admin).  From a PC on your network, enter the URL as seen on Spot in your web browsers address bar (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, ect). 3. Once you hit enter, you will be taken to the Printer Setup Page.  This is where we will setup a printer to use from Spot. 4. Under the “Printers” section, select “Add Printer” (Figure X).
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 7  5. In the “Discovered Network Printers” section, select the HP printer you would like to print to and select “Continue” (Figure X).  6. Confirm the name you want for the printer and select “Continue” (Figure X).
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 8  7. Next, you will need to select the driver for your specific printer.  Scroll through the list under the “Model” section until you find your printer (If you do not find your printer in the list, it is likely we do not support that particular model – contact Pediavision for further information).  Highlight your printer by clicking on it once and select the “Add Printer” option (Figure X)  8. The next step will allow you to setup the Default options for the printer.  Once you have made your changes, select “Set Default Options” (Figure X).
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 9  9. This will save the printer as the default print location for Spot.  You should see the printer status screen if it was installed correctly, as show in Figure X.. See the Tools section, “Testing the Printer” once successfully installed.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 10 User Operation  User Interface  Once Spot is powered on, the main menu screen will appear with the following information and features.   Start: To begin the screening process, select the Start function.  This will allow you to enter subject information, begin the capture process, and print the results.  Records:  The records section will allow you to view already screened subjects and their results, as well as select queued subjects from a list to screen.  Tools: The tools section allows you to customize Spot for your needs.  From Tools, you will be able to set such things as the date & time, and a unique system name and location.  You will also be able to add Spot to a wireless network, set User and Admin password, print test pages to the configured printer, and import and export subject data.  You can also view the system information and the criteria being used during subject screenings.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 11 Subject Data Entry  To begin screening, select the Start Spot button from the main menu.  Using the onscreen keyboard, fill in the following information: 1. Subject ID – If you assign an ID number to the subject you are screening, enter it here.  If not, you may leave this field blank and proceed to the next entry by selecting “OK” or the continue icon   (see figure X).  2. The next screen will ask you for the subject’s first name.  After entry, select “OK” or the continue icon   (see figure X).  3. The next screen will ask you for the subject’s last name.  After entry, select “OK” or the continue icon   (see figure X).  4. The next screen will ask you to select the subject’s gender.  After you make your selection, select the continue icon   (see figure X).
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 12  5. On the final entry screen, you will be asked to enter the subject’s date of birth, or DOB.  After entry, select “OK” or the continue icon   (see figure X).  Once all subject information has been entered, you will be asked to confirm that all information is correct before starting the capture process (Figure X).  You may change the fields at any time by simply pressing on the desired area you need to change.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 13 Screening a Subject Once all information is entered you need to get yourself in position approximately 1 meter from the subject, as shown below (Figure X).  When in position, you begin the screening process by pressing on the continue icon  .  The subject capture screen will appear, as see in Figure X.  A blue screen indicates that you are either too close or too far from the subject.  Depending on which it is, a message will be displayed on the screen.  You will see “too close” on the screen if you are too close to the subject, and adversely you will see “too far” on the screen if you are too far from the subject.  You can also turn the sound on and off by selecting the speaker icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. Once you are within range, the screen will turn grey and the capture process will begin (Figure X ).  All you have to do is hold Spot in this position until the capture completes, as indicated by a still picture and then a results screen.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 14 Viewing the Results  When the screening process has concluded, the results screen will be shown (Figure X).   The results screen, Fig (x) will display the results and red indicates a result(s) is out of range.  The screener/user will make the final recommendation regarding a follow up exam with an eye care professional.    On the results screen, you may select   at any time to close this screen and return to the main menu or select the continue icon    or additional options, as seen in Figure X.  From this menu, you can print the screening results certificate, re-screen the current subject  or exit to the Main Menu.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 15 Tools  The tools menu will allow you to customize and configure Spot.  The main tools menu gives you the following options (Figure X).     About This section will display Spot’s firmware version, application version, and serial number. Date/Time This section will allow you to set the system date and time. Network This section allows you to connect to a wireless network. You can manually enter your network name (SSID), select the security type, and enter the passphrase for your network. Printer This section provided the link for printer configuration, as well as allowing you to print a test page to the configured printer. Import / Export This section enables you to import setting from and output records to an inserted USB storage device. Criteria Here you can view the criteria settings used for exam recommendations.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 16 Setting the Date and Time  From the Tools menu, select the Date/Time icon.  The currently set date and time will be visible as seen in figure X.  If it is correct, select the “OK” or   to returned to the Tools menu.   To change the time, just touch the time field.  The time edit screen will appear as seen in figure X.  Once you enter the correct time, select the “OK” button to save your changes and return the previous screen.  Alternatively, select the   button to cancel changes and return to the previous screen.  You may follow the same steps to change the date..   Connecting to a Wireless Network To connect Spot to a wireless network, you will need to access the Network section (Figure X) of the Tools Menu.  Once selected, the current network settings will be listed.  If they are correct, select the “OK” or   to be returned to the previous screen.  To change the Passphrase, just touch the Passphrase field.  The edit screen will appear as seen in figure X.  Once you enter the Passphrase, select the “OK” button to save your changes and return the previous screen.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 17  To change the network name (SSID), just touch the SSID Name field.  The edit screen will appear as seen in figure X.  Once you enter the SSID, select the “OK” button to save your changes and return the previous screen.    To select the security type, just touch the Security field.  A select list will appear (Figure X).  Once you select the appropriate security type you will be returned to the Wireless settings screen.  Select “OK” to save the settings and return to the Tools menu.  Testing the Printer To test that the printer you configured, select the Printer icon from the Tools menu.  On the displayed screen (Figure X), select the print button and a test will be sent to the printer.  You can exit this screen at any time by selecting the   or the continue icon   which will return you to the Tools menu.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 18   Import & Export Data Spot enables you to export all your screening data to a USB storage device.  Alternately, we can also provide the tools to import subject data onto Spot.  To export all subject data, simply insert any USB 2.0 or greater storage device into the USB port on Spot.  From the Tools menu, select Import / Export, then select Export, as shown in figure X.  NOTE: For details on Spot’s Import function, please contact PediaVision directly.
 P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 19 Basic Troubleshooting  System Freeze Resetting the device will resolve most issues with the system.  To do this, press and hold the power button until the screen goes black.  Release the power button.  Wait about 10-15 seconds, then perform the normal start-up process.  P/N 20043 Rev A                Page 20 Technical Description  General Spot model VS100 will be referred to as Spot below.  The external power supply/charger supplied is a Class I equipment and the Spot is also a Class I equipment when connected to the external power supply/charger.  Spot is internally powered by equipment (battery) when not connected to the external power supply/charger.  Protection against electric shock, no applied part.  Spot is rated IPX0 and thus not protected from the ingress of water.  Spot does not require sterilization or disinfection. DO NOT use cleaners that contain organic solvents to clean Spot's body or front glass.  For stubborn dirt, try using a soft cloth with a small amount of water or a non-abrasive cleaner.    Spot is not suitable for use in the presence of a flammable anesthetic mixture with air or with oxygen or nitrous oxide.  Spot is suitable for continuous operation.  Spot is a breakthrough device that quickly and easily detects vision issues across all age groups.   Spot helps ensure children have an opportunity to reach their full potential. Designed to work as easily with toddlers as with teenagers; Spot provides reliable data in seconds. With Spot, educators, healthcare professionals, and charitable organizations can now confidently assess eyesight for all ages. Spot is powered by sophisticated technology that quickly detects the indication of the following vision issues:   Near-sightedness (myopia)  Far-sightedness (hyperopia)  Unequal refractive power (anisometropia)  Blurred vision, eye structure problem (astigmatism)  Pupil size deviations (anisocoria)  Eye misalignment (strabismus)  In just seconds, Spot provides a comprehensive, reliable analysis that enables informed decision making about the need for follow-up diagnosis.  Pediavision suggests a battery replacement, at an appointed Pediavision repair facility, every 2.5 years as well as a full recalibration at that time at owners expense.  Spot regular maintenance consists of wiping dust or dirt off the surface as needed.  The USB port shall only be used for software download via a USB key and shall not be cable connected to any other device. Spot shall not be considered defective if it is a different color than shown in PediaVision's materials and no warranty is made relating to color. All requests for warranty work are subject to Equipment inspection at PediaVIsion contracted facilities. End User must ship the Equipment for inspection to PediaVision's dedicated warranty and repair facility at User's expense. Misuse, improper usage and/or handling, dropping, improper repairs, improper maintenance and care, or accidental, abusive, or negligent treatment of the Equipment will invalidate PediaVision's warranty. PediaVision shall not be responsible after delivery of the Equipment to End User for maintenance or support of the Equipment, only for warranty services. This warranty is not a guarantee that the Equipment will not through use or handling develop wear, tear, and mechanical breakdown from time to time, the repair of which is the sole responsibility of the End User if beyond the stated warranty period or excluded from warranty coverage for the reasons stated hereinabove. If a returned item of Equipment is evaluated and found defective, and the warranty for such Equipment is in force, PediaVision will bear the cost of shipping the repaired or replacement Equipment to End User; otherwise, all shipping costs will be borne solely by the End User. No statement, remark, or representation of any employee or representative of PediaVision may vary this limited warranty unless in writing and signed by an officer of PediaVision. This warranty shall be void if User loads or uses any software programs or applications on Spot other than the software installed and licensed to User by PediaVision. This warranty shall be void if PediaVision finds that Spot has been opened or the hardware has been altered in any way. All warranty claims must be made in writing addressed to PediaVision within the warranty period.
