IntroductionThe Hugs tag is part of the Hugs Infant Protection System. The tag is attached to the infant using a Hugs tamper-proof strap. From the moment of attachment, the infant is automatically enrolled in the system, and protected against abduction. Cutting the band or attempting to remove the infant without authorization from the protected area will immediately cause an alarm.The Hugs tag is also used with the optional Kisses Mother/Infant Matching component of the Hugs System. Kisses is designed to confi rm that the correct infant is matched with the correct mother each time they are brought together. The Hugs tag emits an audible beep to indicate either a correct or incorrect match.The tag is reusable, and does not interfere with other hospital or personal medical equipment. The patented asymmetrical shape of the tag ensures that it does not pinch or irritate the baby’s skin, and also helps prevent it from being kicked off, while still allowing the ankle joint to move freely. The tag is water proof which allows bath-ing of the infant. It is also resistant to soiling and UV light. Please refer to the instructions included with the Hugs straps for details on attach-ing the tag to an infant.Note: The tag is not sterilized at the fac-tory. You may wish to clean the tag prior to fi rst use.Cleaning the TagThe Hugs tag can be cleaned using a soft-bristle brush and a disinfectant soap or similar solution with no more than 20% alcohol content (for example, Butcher’s Heptagon Disinfectant Cleaner, or Kleen-Aseptic from Metrex Research Corp.). Dry the tag thoroughly before use. A small soft-bristle brush can be used to clean the tag slots. Pass the brush care-fully through the tag slot moving from the bottom to top of the tag.Notes: • Do not use an autoclave to clean the tag or serious damage may result.• Do not soak the tag in alcohol or alco-hol-based cleaners.• Do not immerse the tag when cleaning.Handling InformationBattery Handling - this device contains a lithium battery. Do not force open, heat to 100° C, or dispose of in fi re.X-Rays - Do not directly expose the tag to X-rays. (The tag is not affected by stray radiation.)StorageStore Hugs tags at room temperature.StatementsUnited States—Federal Communication Commission (FCC)This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Xmark reserves the right to change specifi cations without notice.Limitation of LiabilityThis Product has been designed for use to assist in the prevention of infant abduction and/or mother/infant mismatching.The range, accuracy, function and per-formance of this Product may vary from the published specifi cations due to many factors, including, without limitation, site impairments from structural effects, metal objects in the vicinity, placement of the receiver and transmitter, interference from other electrical devices, atmospheric effects, installation, and maintenance. There may be other factors, which also affect perfor-mance of this Product. Instantel does not guarantee that this Prod-uct will detect 100% of infant abductions and/or mother/infant mismatches. Instan-tel does not guarantee that this Product will not return false reports of infant abductions and/or mother/infant mismatches. Monthly testing and maintenance of this Product, as described in the Product docu-mentation, is essential to verify the system is operating correctly and to ensure that the probability of detecting an alarm and/or locating the transmitter are maximized.
