QUICK START GUIDE Congratulations! We are excited to welcome you to the next generation of smart technology. Beam can work with your wireless router to extend the range of your wireless network to areas of your home or office that previously had little or no signal. It has three LED color options that allow you to customize its nightlight to fit your needs. This quick start guide will help you configure your Beam for initial use. Before you begin Beam's hardware Location requirements During thunderstorms, please unplug Beam to prevent it from getting damaged due to lightning strikes. Try to locate Beam about half way between your wireless router and the furthest area you will want to push wireless signal. Locate Beam in a spacious place, such as near hallways or corridors. Choose a location away from electronic appliances that generate strong magnetic or electric fields, such as a microwave oven or a refrigerator. Place Beam in a cool and well-ventilated indoor area. Do not expose Beam to direct sunlight. Note: To reset Beam, insert a paper clip or similar thin object into the reset pinhole, and press and hold for 10 seconds. Quick setup Do not place any object (such as a candle or a water container) on the device. If any foreign object or liquid enters the device, stop using the device immediately, power it off and then contact our support team. Please make sure Beam is always within the wireless coverage of your wireless router. Do not block Beam with any object. Reserve a minimum space of 10cm around Beam for heat dissipation. The operating distance range of your wireless connection can vary significantly depending on the physical position of your wireless devices. In order to optimize the performance of your Beam, please follow the instructions: Zmodo Beam Smart WiFi Range Extender with LED Nightlight Log in and select the Add Device (+) option under the menu in the upper left corner. Power on your Beam, and tap √ √ to go to the next step. In your WiFi settings page, please select the network named “AP_ZMD” and connect to it. Tap “Zink” to configure your Beam. Tap √ to proceed. (Only one Beam can be added at a time. If you have multiple Beams, please repeat the setup process for each.) 10 Return to the Zmodo app page, enter the name and password of the 2.4GHz WPA/WPA2 encrypted WiFi network your Beam should connect to. Tap √ √ to proceed. Select the “Normal” option. Read the notes on the screen and then tap the “Tap here to select WiFi” option to go to the WiFi settings page on your smartphone. 11 If this app interface appears, please press “Tap here to select WiFi” to go to the next step. (If your WiFi connection on your phone automatically changes back to your home network, this pop up will not appear, and you can skip to step 13). Follow the steps below to configure Beam with your wireless router. For detailed instructions and troubleshooting, please visit www.zmodo.com/support Plug Beam into a power outlet near your wireless router to power it on. Make sure you know the SSID (name) and password of the 2.4GHz WPA/WPA2 WiFi network that you will connect your Beam to before starting. Download and install the 'Zmodo' app from Google Play TM or the App Store TM . Launch the app and sign up for a free Zmodo account. Smartphone requirements: iOS (v7 or newer) or Android (v4.0 or newer). Zmodo Note: Please make sure you are updated to the latest version of the Zmodo app available. 12 15 Select your own WiFi network and connect to it. Return to the Zmodo app after connecting to that network. 13 14 Zink will automatically search for your Beam and connect it to your WiFi network. This may take a few minutes. Name your Beam and set a password for it. Tap √ to proceed. Note: The password provides an additional layer of security for your Beam. You will not need to use this password to access your Beam from the Zmodo app. Beam has now been configured successfully and added to your wireless network. The LED light colors and modes can be adjusted in the app. Control options 12 After your Beam is successfully connected, you can relocate it farther from your router to extend your network further. Please make sure it's still within range of your router's WiFi network. Beam can also be used to configure Zmodo accessories that require a Zmodo hub to operate. Just log into the free web app at user.zmodo.com with your Zmodo username and password. Optimal placement Enjoy: After configuration, Beam shares the same WiFi Network Name (SSID) and WiFi password as your wireless router or wireless access point. Beam acts as more than just a WiFi range extender. It is also a smart hub. After Beam is successfully configured, you can use it to easily set up other Zmodo smart cameras and devices, such as Pivots, Greets, and more. www.zmodo.com/support Configure other Zmodo devices with Beam For more instructions, troubleshooting, support, and other resources, please visit: In Auto mode, the nightlight will turn on automatically when it's dark and someone passes by. You can pick a color and schedule the time that you want your nightlight to last: 30 seconds, 60 seconds or 120 seconds. Adding devices using Beam is very simple. Log in and select the (+) Add Device option from the menu found in the top left corner of the home screen. Tap the "Zink" option, and then choose "Beam Connect". Make sure your devices are powered on, and then select the number of devices you are setting up at once by using the [+] and [-] icons. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup. Plug the Beam into a power outlet about half-way between your wireless router and your Wi-Fi dead zone. The device will automatically reconnect to your router within 30 seconds. In Timer mode, you can not only select the light color, but also schedule the time of day that your nightlight is on. Important Information 1.This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. 2.changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.
