With wirelessLANs, users can access shared information without lookingfor a place to plug in, and network managers can set up oraugment networks without installing or moving wires.Wireless LANs offer the following productivity, service, convenience, and cost advantages over traditional wirednetworks.
Broadband DSL/Cable Wireless Router User’s Manual58Wireless ConceptAccess Point (AP)Access Point is a transparent media access controlled (MAC) bridgethat provides Ethernet to Wireless access. With Access Point, wireless workstations can be added easily to an existing Ethernet.Access Point works with Wireless LAN Card just like Ethernet Hubworks with NIC Card.Ad-hocAd-hoc is a peer-to-peer network connection mode, which likeEthernet NIC direct connection to NIC through crossover cable.During Ad-hoc mode, wireless LAN workstations connect to eachother without Access Point.Infrastructure modeInfrastructure is a network connection mode that allows wireless LANworkstations connect with Access Point. When you setting networktype to "Infrastructure", wireless workstation connect to otherwireless nodes or Ethernet via Access Point.BSS IDA specific Ad hoc LAN is called a Basic Service Set (BSS).Computers in a BSS must be configured with the same BSS ID.
