First Use or After Long Period of Non-Use
Follow these steps to prepare your machine before its first use or after a long period of inactivity:
- Read the safety precautions (pages 3-4).
 - Rinse the water tank several times with fresh water.
 - Fill the water tank with fresh, potable water and place it securely on the machine.
 - Attach the water tank, capsule container, drip grid, and drip tray to the machine.

Descaling
Regular descaling is crucial for maintaining your machine's performance and longevity. This process takes approximately 15 minutes. Coffee cannot be brewed during descaling.

 - Repeat the rinsing process with fresh water one more time.
 - Press and hold both the Espresso and Lungo buttons for 3 seconds to exit descaling mode. Reassemble all parts.
 - The machine will preheat. Wait for the buttons to turn solid (approx. 30 seconds).

Water Hardness and Descaling Frequency
The frequency of descaling depends on your water hardness:
| Water Hardness (fH) | Water Hardness (dH) | Calcium Carbonate (mg/l) | Cups (40ml) | Descale After |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 36 | 20 | 360 mg/l | 1000 | 1000 cups |
| 18 | 10 | 180 mg/l | 2000 | 2000 cups |
| 0 | 0 | 0 mg/l | 4000 | 4000 cups |
Most tap water in Japan is soft. If you notice any unusual smells after descaling, perform a rinsing cycle (see page 11) by pressing the Lungo button without a capsule.

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and hygiene.
- Empty and rinse the water tank daily.
 - Before brewing your first coffee and after your last coffee, perform a rinsing cycle (refer to page 11).
 - Regularly empty the capsule container, drip tray, and drip grid. Clean these parts as needed.

Daily Maintenance
