Dear Lockwood Families,
Well, it feels like fall has officially taken over. Fall is my second favorite season (summer is the first). I love the colors of fall and I enjoy taking walks on windy days. Now that our days are becoming a bit cooler, I must remind myself to make sure my own kids are staying active and playing outside during and after long days of Zooming. Please remind our Leopards to limit screen time and play. Just as balance is important for us adults, it is just as important for our kids.
I spent most of October visiting classrooms. Our students are hard-working, that's for sure. The same can be said for our teachers and support staff. I am so proud of our Lockwood community. It was great to see many of you during our material distribution last week and I look forward to seeing you again on November 18th,.
There have been so many things we have experienced and are experiencing in 2020, it is important we remain positive and know that we will come out in a better place, together as one. Balance, Pace, and Grace.

From the Health Room
Hello Lockwood Families!
Clothes For Kids provides free school clothing to lower-income students. Any child who attends school in Snohomish County or the Northshore School District (Head Start/ECEAP through 12th grade) and requests help qualifies for Clothes For Kids. Clothing is distributed from August through the end of March 2021.
This year, we are doing things a little differently families will schedule an appointment online for each student shopper and arrive at Clothes For Kids at the designated appointment time. We are also requesting that only one parent/guardian accompany the student to the appointment.
With the new appointments system, each family can have the space and time necessary to pick out clothing for their student(s) while maintaining social distancing. If a family has more than one student shopper, separate appointments should be scheduled for each child with only one student from the family shopping in a 30minute time slot.
For questions, please email office@clothesforkids.org or call 425-741- 6500.
Hours for school shopping: Mondays, Wednesdays or Friday............ 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Tuesdays or Thursdays................................................................4:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. 1 or 2 Saturdays per month............. 9 a.m. 12 p.m. (Nov.14th, Jan. 23rd, Feb. 20th)
How to Make a School Shopping Appointment: 1. Go to www.clothesforkids.org. 2. Click on "Make an Appointment" at the top of the main page. 3. Read the information and examples about scheduling an appointment. 4. Choose the day you want to come in on the calendar. 5. Select an available time slot for your student. 6. Enter your name, email, zip code, and phone number, and click "Next". 7. Click "Confirm" to book your shopping appointment. 8. You will receive an email confirmation of your shopping appointment, which will contain all the info you will need. If you have more than one student shopper, please schedule separate appointments for each child with only one student from the family shopping in a 30-minute time slot.

Stay well and take care.

Become a Volunteer Are you interested in supporting our students, families and staff this year? Some classrooms and staff may have limited opportunities for volunteers during distance learning.
All volunteers in Northshore are required to complete an online volunteer application for the 2020-21 school year, even if they submitted a volunteer application last year. It is also important to note that all volunteers will be expected to renew their volunteer
application annually.

This month's theme is gratitude and sharing what we are thankful for! Here is a song that you can share with your younger children (https://video.link/w/hifrb) that they can sing along too. A video activity that you can do is pairing mindful breathing with gratitude using Mind Yeti (https://vimeo.com/showcase/6875483/video/398427915). A bonus activity that you can do with your family is create a gratitude wall. You can write down one thing that you are thankful for on a post it notes and stick it on the wall or refrigerator. At the end of the month, your family can reflect and share all that is on the wall or refrigerator during the holiday break!
Lunch Club begins this week. If you would like to add your child to the Schoology groups to join. Anyone is welcome!

PE News

Library News

Thank you for your support in filling out the jump rope form. If you are borrowing or buying a rope, they will be available at the November 18 material pick up. The PE schedule for your child is posted in the PE Schoology Course. Note that each student has PE class 2 times per week. Many students are attending the live zoom, but not submitting their assignment for the day they do PE on their own. There is an assignment for this day, which is also how we take attendance. If you see your child is marked absent from PE on a Tuesday or Friday, it is because they didn't submit the assignment. In October, we focused on soccer foot skills, the circulatory system, heart rate, and cardio respiratory endurance. In November, we will continue to focus on the components of fitness (muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility) and introduce throwing and catching skills, and maybe even a new version of our Turkey Trot Triathlon. If you have any questions, please let us know! We want to sincerely thank all of the parents for their support for PE. We've seen some parents doing the workout with their kids, some filming soccer ball skills, making sure students have something they can use for PE, filling out the jump rope form, and just making sure their student is present for PE, as well as numerous other ways all you parents are working so hard to make us feel so blessed to be teaching at Lockwood with such a great community of parents.

Growth The PBIS theme for November
is gratitude and finding the good. As we wind down this unusually challenging year, I invite you to take a few moments to set the heavy baggage down and think of the things that DID go well for you this year, think of three things that you are grateful for, and savor the things that did fill you with joy over the past year. Gratitude has a healing power that turns what we have into enough and allows us to appreciate the things that matter to us most. Sometimes the negative screams and shouts so loudly that we can't look past it to find the good. But it is there, hiding quietly waiting for you to notice. I invite you all to be positive detectives and ignore the noisy negative to find the good in your day. Some days it may be small, like, a great cup of coffee that hit the spot; on other days it could be big, like, you reached a big goal or milestone. I invite you to savor the big and small moments, embrace the ordinary, find gratitude in every day and share it with others.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Library Distribution Days A Success
A shout out to all the amazing folks that helped make our first library distribution a grand success! We packed over 240 book bags for our Lockwood students and delivered - via bus and curbside pickup, all but a handful of those bags. The "Library Team" worked incredibly hard supporting this big endeavor and look forward to the next one this month! Thank you, parent volunteers, who organized the families at each stop. And, thank you teachers for encouraging students to fill out book request forms and pick up their books.
