Board Chair/CEO Update
Molly Bell, GoDaddy Board Chair, Chandler Chamber of Commerce
By their nature, leaders are resourceful, creative, persistent and resilient. Here in Chandler, those leadership characteristics are demonstrated by the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, the city of Chandler, our nonprofits, and in businesses large and small. In the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic, it was determination driven by the leadership of the Chandler Chamber to push information out to all businesses and create an informational resource website page that was highly acclaimed by Governor Ducey. It was innovation created by the Chandler Chamber to arrange virtual meetings and webinars for educational and networking purposes keeping our members informed and connected. The past few months have been a defining moment in our business climate. As we venture into our new normal, we turn our attention to internal processes, our core business practices, essential personnel along with the demands of our customers, and shift from fear to awareness. Many companies look to the Chandler Chamber for guidance in navigating this strange new world. We are not out of the woods yet. But rest assured the Chamber will be there every step of the way to educate, innovate and communicate the best strategies that lead to success for all.
Terri Kimble, President/CEO Chandler Chamber of Commerce
@Terri_Kimble
As you know, Gov. Doug Ducey has issued a statewide Declaration of Emergency, with a curfew in place starting at 8 pm weeknights and lifting each morning at 5 am. It is effective until June 8th at 5 am unless further extended. We are in constant contact with collaborative partners working together to keep the Chandler business community safe and informed. If you are a business, make sure you are taking appropriate measures to keep your location safe. For instance, if you have outdoor furniture, it is recommended to bring it indoors and not leave anything outside of your venue when you close. Lock valuables in a safe place and don't keep cash in your place of business. The Chandler Chamber fully supports the top-notch Chandler Police Department and thanks them for their diligent service during these uncertain times. On another note, as we reemerge from quarantine, we are left with a business climate much different from what we knew and took for granted. Unemployment has hit a new high as we watch our economy struggling, impacting large and small businesses alike. To help get our workforce back to work, on June 17th we are introducing the Chandler Chamber Meet Your Match Virtual Job Fair. This is a slick, innovative way to help companies relay crucial employment information. Virtual booths are available for employers where they can provide valuable information including an organizational overview of their company, available jobs and directions on how to apply. Then, the third Wednesday of every month from 9 am to 10 am, employers and job seekers can join a live virtual event where they can use the `chat' function and connect online. We see the urgency in finding work for our Valley's residents so they can pay their bills and put food on their tables, in a strategic and safe manner. The good news is, there are companies, large and small, who are productive and need quality employees. As our hospitality and restaurant sector amps up, they too are hiring. If you are hiring or if you are looking for employment, please join us on June 17th for an opportunity to meet your match! For more information or to purchase a booth for the event, please click here.

Chandler Mayor Update
Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke City of Chandler
@ChandlerAZMayor
Chandler residents and businesses were significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, having a ripple effect on the City's operations and revenue. Due to this unparalleled situation, the Fiscal Year 2020-21 Budget looks very different than we anticipated and on June 11, Council will be voting on the adoption of this plan.
Years of adherence to strong financial policies, maintaining healthy reserves and a clear vision for the future of our community has left Chandler well-equipped to respond to the financial impacts of COVID-19. The City of Chandler continues to be celebrated for its structurally balanced approach by being named as one of the few communities across the United States that holds an AAA General Obligation bond rating with all three bond rating agencies. Despite reductions in the proposed FY 2020-21 budget, through and after these challenging times Chandler remains committed to providing high quality, cost effective services to our citizens.
The total proposed budget is $901 million, representing a 2.8 percent decrease from last fiscal year, with a slight reduction in the property tax rate. We are focused on maintaining existing service levels, maintaining strong reserves and paying down the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System liability. This budget allows for flexibility. I believe the economy will return, and we have given ourselves the ability to adapt depending on the duration of the financial impacts and the duration of this pandemic.
Through this pandemic, Council and staff have worked with local and national partners to identify funding and other resources to support our businesses and have executed strategies to encourage residents to support local businesses. We will continue to advocate at all levels for additional resources and support for our business community.
City staff has taken the time to thoughtfully review, prioritize and reduce expenditures to help mitigate the financial impacts of the pandemic, and Council remains dedicated to creating a plan that supports the overall stability and growth for our community.
Thank you, Chamber members, for participating in the various opportunities to provide feedback on the budget. Your input ensures we are providing the necessary services and amenities needed to maintain Chandler's high standard of quality of life.
The Chandler Police Department Emergency Communications Center 911 System can live stream video from smartphone callers to better assess the situation and dispatch resources. #seesometingsaysomething
