Important Safety Information

WARNING: THIS FIREPLACE IS HOT WHEN IN OPERATION AND CAN CAUSE INJURY.

  • Maintain clearances to combustibles when installing mantels or shelves above the fireplace.
  • Do not operate before reading and understanding instructions. Failure to do so could cause fire or injury.
  • The heating element is ON when the fireplace is in operation. Turn power OFF and allow to cool before servicing.
  • Do not install damaged or substitute components.
  • Supervise young children closely when they are in the same room.
  • Keep flammable materials away from the fireplace.
  • Locate the fireplace away from high-traffic areas and draperies.
  • Keep control compartments, blower, and passageways clean.
  • Do not modify the fireplace.
  • Do not use if any part has been under water.
  • Do not operate with a cracked or broken glass panel.
  • Keep packaging material away from children.
  • Service only when disconnected from power.
  • Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug.
  • Do not use outdoors.
  • Never locate near bathtubs or water containers.
  • Do not run the cord under carpeting.
  • Connect only to a properly grounded outlet or hard wire connection.

Wiring and Installation

Wiring Options

The Sideline Series can be plugged into a grounded 3-prong outlet or hard-wired. Note: The Sideline 28 is not hard-wire compatible.

Testing Before Installation

Before installation, plug in the fireplace and test its operation to ensure it is working correctly.

3-Prong Outlet Installation

  • Use only a 120V AC, 15-Amp grounded circuit. Do not overload the circuit.
  • Avoid plugging other appliances into the same circuit.
  • Always check the fireplace plug and connections before use.
  • Never plug into a cracked or loose outlet.
  • Ensure the plug fits securely into the outlet. If the outlet or faceplate feels hot, discontinue use and have it inspected by a qualified electrician.
  • The power cord has three prongs: ground, neutral, and live. An adapter may be used if a 3-slot receptacle is unavailable, but it MUST be properly grounded.

Hard Wire Connection

If hard wiring is necessary, a qualified electrician must remove the cord connection and wire the appliance directly to household wiring. This must be done in accordance with local codes or the National Electrical Code (ANSI/NFPA 70) and the Canadian Electrical Code (CSA C22.1).

Installation Steps

Recessed Installation:

  • Consult a professional for wall finishing.
  • Select a location not prone to moisture, at least 36 inches away from combustible materials like curtains or furniture.
  • Ensure walls of the fireplace enclosure are finished (e.g., Sheetrock, drywall) to maintain clearances.
  • Install only into non-load-bearing walls.
  • Create a wall opening that is no more than 1/4 inch larger than the firebox dimensions. Refer to the Firebox Dimensions and Rough Opening Dimensions tables for specific model requirements.
  • With assistance, insert the fireplace into the wall opening and secure with mounting screws.
  • Place crystal embers or fire log inside the fireplace.
  • For crystal embers, carefully place them on the plastic strip.
  • For the fire log, place it as shown in the diagrams.
  • Reinstall the glass panel by aligning its hooks with the slots on the firebox, lowering it, and securing with the locking screws.

Wall Mounted Installation:

  • Consult a professional for wall finishing.
  • Select a location not prone to moisture, at least 36 inches away from combustible materials.
  • With the glass panel removed, have two people hold the fireplace against the wall to determine the final location.
  • Place the unit face down on a soft surface. Remove the mounting bracket from the back of the unit.
  • Mark the bracket location on the wall. Mount the bracket using supplied screws and drywall anchors. Ensure the bracket hooks point upward and are level. Mount to at least two studs if possible; use drywall anchors if studs are not accessible, ensuring the bracket is securely affixed.
  • With the wall mounting bracket installed, have two people lift the fireplace and insert its hooks into the corresponding holes on the back of the bracket. Ensure the hooks lock into place.
  • Check the fireplace for stability.
  • Install crystal embers/fire log and reinstall the glass panel.

Operating Your Fireplace

Powering On

Plug the fireplace into a grounded 110-120V, 15-Amp outlet. Ensure circuit breakers are on.

Methods of Operation

The fireplace can be operated via the control panel (located in the front glass panel vent) or the remote control. Functions are identical for both.

Control Panel and Remote Control Functions

  • POWER Button: Turns the fireplace ON (enables flame effect and functions) or OFF (standby mode).
  • TIMER Button: Sets the automatic shut-off time, adjustable from 0.5 to 7.5 hours.
  • FLAME Button: Adjusts the flame brightness. The flame effect must be on for the heater to operate.
  • COLOR Button: Changes the color of the flame effect.
  • HEATER Button: Activates the heater. The fan will blow cool air for 8-10 seconds before the heater turns on. It can be set to 750W or 1500W. Pressing again turns the heater OFF.

Remote Control Operation

Uses 2 AAA batteries (not included). Aim the remote at the fireplace and do not press buttons too quickly. Never dispose of batteries in fire.

Temperature Limiting Control

The heater will automatically shut OFF if an unsafe temperature is reached. To reset:

  1. Unplug the power cord.
  2. Turn the control panel ON/OFF switch to OFF. Wait 5 minutes for the fireplace to cool.
  3. Inspect vents for blockages (dust, lint) and clean with a vacuum if necessary.
  4. Plug the power cord back in with the POWER switch OFF.
  5. If the issue persists, have your outlet and wiring inspected by a professional.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning

  • Always turn the heater OFF and unplug the power cord before cleaning.
  • Never immerse the fireplace in water or spray it with water.
  • Metal Trim: Buff with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a citrus oil-based product. Do not use brass polish or household cleaners.
  • Glass: Use a quality glass cleaner on a cloth. Dry with a paper towel or lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Vents: Use a vacuum or duster to remove dust and dirt.
  • Plastic Surfaces: Wipe gently with a damp cloth and mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Maintenance

  • RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK! DO NOT OPEN any panels.
  • Always turn the heater OFF and unplug the power cord before performing maintenance or moving the fireplace.
  • Fan motors are lubricated at the factory and do not require lubrication. Electrical components are integrated and not serviceable by the customer.

Storage

Store the fireplace in a clean, dry place when not in use.
