LifeProof Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation Guide
About LifeProof Flooring
This document provides comprehensive installation instructions for LifeProof Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Plank and Tile flooring. LifeProof flooring is designed for interior use and is suitable for above grade, on grade, and below grade applications.
It is a floating floor system, meaning it is not glued or nailed to the subfloor, allowing for expansion and contraction. Proper installation is crucial to ensure the longevity and performance of the flooring.
Key Installation Considerations
Before beginning installation, several factors must be considered:
- Environment: Suitable for temperature-controlled interiors only. Avoid areas prone to flooding, sunrooms, solariums, and exterior spaces.
- Subfloor Preparation: The subfloor must be clean, dry, level, and structurally sound. Specific requirements apply to concrete, wood, tile, and other subfloor types.
- Acclimation: The flooring should be acclimated to room temperature before installation, especially for commercial applications (48 hours).
- Expansion Gaps: A minimum 1/4" (6mm) expansion gap must be maintained around the perimeter of the room and any fixed objects.
- Moisture: Subfloor moisture content must be tested and meet specified limits.
- Sunlight Exposure: Long-term direct sunlight can cause discoloration or damage; window treatments are recommended.
Installation Process Overview
The installation involves several key steps:
- Setting up expansion spacers.
- Installing the first row, ensuring proper alignment and tongue/groove connection.
- Continuing with subsequent rows, maintaining correct staggering and ensuring tight joints.
- Fitting around irregular shapes like doorways and pipes.
- Installing the final row and finishing the job by removing spacers and adding trim.
Tools required include a utility knife, measuring tape, pencils, pull bar, soft-faced hammer, straight edge, spacers, tapping block, eye protection, and a broom. Optional tools like jigsaws and saws may also be needed.
Care and Maintenance
Regular cleaning involves sweeping, damp mopping, or vacuuming without a beater bar. Avoid harsh chemicals, steam cleaners, and abrasive materials. Protective measures like furniture pads and mats are recommended to prevent scratches and stains.
Warranty Information
LifeProof flooring comes with a limited warranty covering manufacturing defects, wear, fade, stain, and water damage. Registration is available online at warranty.halsteadintl.com. It is essential to follow the installation and maintenance instructions to maintain warranty coverage.
