    Safety, Warranty and Product Information   Page 1 of 7  1. Warranty  smaXtec guarantees that its products fulfil all requirements in order that they may be lawfully placed  on  the market in  the  EU.  The  customer acknowledges that the  pH monitoring  system  (base  station  and  boli)  may  be  used  exclusively  for  the measurement of bovine ruminal pH levels. smaXtec shall guarantee the conservation of the specific properties of the product provided that use of the product begins at the latest by the use by date displayed on the bolus packaging. It shall be clear that the indication  of  a  use  by  date  on  the  packaging  shall  not  constitute  a  guarantee  by smaXtec.  The  customer  shall  be  obliged  to  work  in  strict  adherence  with  the instructions provided by smaXtec in the user information; this applies particularly in regard to transportation and storage conditions. The customer must inspect delivered goods  and  immediately  provide  written  notification  of  any  defects.  Under  these conditions  and  should  the  delivered  goods  in  fact  be  defective,  the  customer  is entitled to legal warranty rights. Warranty claims may be submitted within a maximum of  3  months  after  expiry  of  the  use  by  date.  smaXtec  shall  be  entitled  to  choose between repairing or replacing the defective goods. If the customer submits a warranty claim he is obliged to make data stored on the base  station  and  log  files  accessible  to  smaXtec.  smaXtec  shall  be  obliged  to maintain confidentiality of this data. The customer acknowledges that an intact internet connection must be available to facilitate use of the free remote maintenance services provided by smaXtec.  2.  Important Safety Information   PLEASE NOTE:  Read  all  safety  information  and  instructions  before  using  the  pH Monitoring System in order to avoid any injury.   PLEASE NOTE:  Failure to comply with the safety information may lead to fire, electric shock or other injuries and/or damage to the system components.  IMPORTANT NOTICE: The pH Bolus is exclusively designed for use in cattle. Use of the pH Bolus is prohibited in cattle aged under 18 months or weighing less than 450 kg. If in any doubt, please consult your vet.  Explosive atmospheres: Do not charge or use the Mobile Reader, USB Antenna and/or pH bolus in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere, such as at a fueling area, or in areas where the air contains chemicals or particles (such as grain, dust, or metal powders). Obey all signs and instructions.
    Safety, Warranty and Product Information   Page 2 of 7  High-consequence activities: This  device  is  not  intended  for  use  where  the  failure  of  the  device  could  lead  to death, personal injury, or severe environmental damage.  Handling the pH Bolus – Mobile Reader – USB Antenna Do  not  drop  the  pH  Bolus,  Mobile  Reader  and  the  USB  Antenna  on  the  floor. Disassembly, opening, breaking, or bending the pH  Bolus,  Mobile  Reader  and  the USB Antenna is prohibited. Do not throw the pH Bolus, Mobile Reader and the USB Antenna  into  an  open  fire  and  do  not  paint  it.  Do  not  heat  the  pH  Bolus,  Mobile Reader  and  the  USB Antenna  in  the  microwave  or  in  any other  oven,  and do not insert any objects into the pH Bolus, Mobile Reader and the USB Antenna.  Using the Mobile Reader Only use the supplied adapter and USB cable to charge and/or connect the Mobile Reader  to  your  PC/laptop.  Should  any  problems  occur,  please  contact  your  local dealer. As the Mobile Reader, USB Antenna is not waterproof, please ensure it does not  come  into  contact  with  any  liquids  and  is  not  exposed  to  any  damp  or  humid conditions. Please use the protective cover provided. Always keep the battery  and the device dry and do not use near water or any other liquids to avoid short circuiting.  Electrical Safety – Mobile Reader This  product  is  intended  for  operation  with  the  battery,  the  supplied  adapter  or  to connect the Mobile Reader to your PC/laptop with the supplied USB cable. Using any other devices can be dangerous and can invalidate your warranty  for  this product. Only  use  authorized  accessories.  Do  not  connect  to  any  incompatible  products  or accessories. Do not use damaged cables or chargers or charge the Mobile Reader when moisture is present.  Safety  guidelines  for  properly  earthed  installation  –  USB  Antenna,  Mobile Reader Connection  to  a  device  which  is  not properly  earthed  can  cause  the  device  to  be affected  by  an  electrical  shock.  This  product  is  equipped  with  a  USB  cable  for connection to a PC/laptop. Please ensure the PC/laptop is properly earthed before connecting  this  device  to  it.  The  power  cable  of  a  PC/laptop  contains  an  earthing conductor as well as an earthing device in the plug. The plug must be connected to an appropriate, properly installed earthed plug socket which meets all relevant laws and regulations.  Safety measures for power supply – Mobile Reader Only use a properly authorized external power source. For the Mobile Reader only use a power supply, which according to its labeling provides the required electrical power. If you are in any doubt about which power supply is required, please contact an authorized provider or your local power company.   Careful handling of batteries – Mobile Reader The  Mobile  Reader  contains  a  lithium-ion  battery.  If  the  battery  is  not  handled correctly,  there  is  a  risk  of fire  and burning.  Do  not  attempt  to  open  or  repair  the

You must not take this battery apart, destroy or make holes in it, cause it to short-circuit, throw it in fire or water or expose it to temperatures over 60°C (110°F).  Safety measures with regard to direct sunlight – Mobile Reader, pH Bolus Please  ensure  that  the  Mobile  Reader  and  or  pH  Bolus  is  not  exposed  extreme temperatures. Please do not leave the device for longer periods of time in a vehicle or in any other place where temperatures can rise to above 60°C (110°F), e.g. on a car dashboard, on a window sill or by a window where the sun can shine directly on to or where it can be affected by UV light. This can cause the device or the vehicle to be damaged and the battery to overheat.  Handling the supplied magnet A neodymium magnet is built in to the supplied magnet.  Please  note  that  the  magnetic  fields  of  various  data  media (diskettes,  hard  disks,  USB  sticks,  digital  cameras,  bank/credit cards,  audio  and  video  cassettes)  can  delete,  affect  or  damage electronic and mechanical components, e.g. pacemakers, monitors, compasses, meters etc.   Please  note the  safe  distances  specified  by  the manufacturer.  Always  ensure  you maintain a safe distance of about 1 metre.   There is no risk of flaking or splintering as the magnet is enclosed in a metal casing. Please  also  note  that  the  magnet  must  be  kept  away  from  children  as  there  is  a danger it could be swallowed.  Scope  and  handling  of  the  supplied  buffer  solution  (summary  of manufacturer’s safety data sheet) First aid measures: General information: no specific measures required. Upon respiration: inhale fresh air, in case of complaints consult a physician. Upon skin contact: the product does not usually cause any skin irritation. Upon eye contact: rinse the eyes under running water for several minutes, keeping the eyes open.  Protection  from  liquids  and  atmospheric  exposure  –  USB  Antenna,  Mobile Reader Do not use the USB antenna and the Mobile Reader in rainy conditions, near wash basins  or  in  any  other  humid  environment.  Make  sure  that  no  liquids  come  in  to contact with the USB antenna and/or Mobile Reader. Should the USB antenna and/or Mobile  Reader  be  exposed  to  humidity,  disconnect  it  from  the  desktop/laptop  PC. Should  the  external  power  source  (for  Mobile  Reader)  be  exposed  to  humidity, disconnect all cables from the adapter and/or from the wall outlet.  Use of plugs and connections
    Safety, Warranty and Product Information   Page 4 of 7  Never  use  force  to  plug  a  lead  in  to  a  socket.  Check  the  connection  for  foreign bodies. If the plug does not fit properly, it is probably not intended for that particular socket. Make sure that plug and socket correspond and that you have aligned the plug correctly with the socket.  Acceptable  temperature  range  for  the  pH  Bolus  and  the  supplied  buffer solution. Make sure the pH Bolus is used exclusively within a temperature range of 20 ºC to 50 ºC. Lower temperatures may result in a reduction in the battery run time. Store the pH Bolus in the packing, together with the buffer solution, at temperatures ranging from 5 ºC to 30 ºC.   3.  Disposal  Disposal of buffer solution Recommendation:  smaller  quantities  can  be  disposed  of  together  with  household waste.  Disposal  and  recycling  of  the  pH  Bolus,  the  Mobile  Reader  and  the  USB antenna These  products  must  be  disposed  of  in  accordance  with  local  environmental  laws and  regulations.  Since  the  pH  Bolus,  Mobile  Reader  and  the  USB  antenna  are electronic  devices  and  contain  a  battery,  they  must  be  separated  from  household waste. If necessary, check with local authorities for disposal and recycling options. smaXtec animal care sales GmbH operates a policy of sustainability and welcomes the  return  of  used  pH  boluses,  Mobile  Readers  and/or  USB  antennas  in  order  to ensure the correct disposal of all materials contained. Return the used pH Bolus in the packing to your dealer or send it directly to smaXtec animal care sales GmbH.    European Union – recommendations for disposal: The  above symbol indicates that this product is to be disposed of  separately from household waste in accordance with local laws and regulations. Please ensure you dispose of this product at an official collection point. Several collection points accept used products for disposal free of charge. The separated collection and recycling of waste  helps  to  save  on  raw  material  reserves  and  guarantees  adherence  to  all regulations for the protection of human health and the environment.   4.
