Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaner. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 6) Exception :A product that is meant or uninterrupted service and that for some specific reason, such as the possibility of the loss of and authorization code for c CATV converter, is not intended to be unplugged by the user for cleaning or any other purpose, may exclude the reference to unplugging the product in the cleaning description otherwise required in this article. 7) Attachment :Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer as they may cause hazards. 8) Water and Moisture : Do not use the product near water for example, near a bath, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub ; in a wet basement; or r,ear a swimming pool; and the like. 9) Accessories : Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table. This product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the product. Use 10) A product and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surface may cause the product and cart combination to overturn. Please refer to picture 1 in the end of this chapter. 11) Ventilation – Slot and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protest it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked by covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer’s instructions have been adhered to. 12) Power sources : This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company. For products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions. -5- Safety Important Safety Instruction 13) Grounding or Polarization: This product may be equipped with a polarized alternatingcurrent line plug(a plug having on blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only on way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug gully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fir, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarizing plug. Alternate Warning : This product is equipped with a three-wire grounding-type plug, a plug having a third(grounding) pin. This plug will only fit into a grounding-type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounding-type plug. 14) Power-Cord Protection : Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product. 15) Protective Attachment Plug : The product is equipped with an attachment plug having overload protection. This is a safety feature. See instruction Manual for replacement or resetting of protective device. If replacement of the plug is required, be sure the service technician has used a replacement plug specified by the manufacturer that has the same overload protection as the original plug. 16) Outdoor Antenna Grounding : If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the National Electric Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with regards. 17) Lighting : For added protection for this product during a lighting storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product due to lighting and power-line surges. 18) Power Lines : An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits. Or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal. 19) Overloading : Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire of electric shock. -6- Safety Important Safety Instruction 20) Object and Liquid Entry : Never push objects of any kind into this product through opening as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire of electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product. 21) Serving : Do not attempt to service this product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all serving to qualified service personnel. 22) Damage Requiring Service : Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a) When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product. c) If the product has been exposed to rain or water. d) If the product dose not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Earthing The LNB cable MUST BE EARTHED to the system earth for the llite sate dish. The earth system must comply with SABS 061. 10. Location Place the STB indoor in order to prevent potential damage rom lightning, rain, or direct sunlight. 11. Digital Satellite Receiver DSR Remote Control Unit User’s Guide Batteries AAA AAA General Operation Throughout this manual you will notice that the everydayon operati of your DSR is based on a series of user friendly on screen display and menus. menus These will help you get the most from your DSR, guiding you through installation,l channe organizing, viewing and many other functions. All function can be carried out using the buttons on the RCU, d some an of the function can also be carried out using the buttons on the front panel. If at any time when you using the menus you want to return e normal to th TV mode, press the TV/AV button. The DSR is easy to use, always at your command and adaptable future foradvances. Please be aware that new software may change the functionality f the DSR In the case of your facing difficulties with the operation ur of DSR, yo please consult the relevant section of this manual, including the Problem Shooting, or alternatively call your dealer or a customer service adviser. -12- General Information Remote Control Unit (RCU) Key Function Turns power ON/OFF of the DSR When watching a channel, mutes the sound 0~9 Enter number of the required menu item or select a channel number to watch. To move left and right, press keys on the RCU. Place cursor on the “User Installation ”, then sub-menu will be displayed on the screen. (Refer to the picture) -19- User Installation This menu consists of 5 sub-menus as follows. - Antenna Setup - Channel Search - System Setting - Parental Lock - Factory Default Antenna Setup-1) DiSEqC 1.2 1)Antenna : You can select maximum 16 antennas with the combination of switches. 2) Type : Select your antenna type to be DiSEqC1.2 3) Univ. LNB: Select your LNB type. If you have universal LNB, select YES otherwise select NO. 4) LNB Freq. : Enter the proper LNB frequency referring to your LNB using numeric key on the RCU or use KEY PAD displayed by pressing OK key. 5) Switches (0/12 Volt, 13/18 Volt, DiSEqC) : You can select the switches with which you want to configure the antenna. 6) C/Ku band control : You can select C/Ku band by selection of switch type. -20- User Installation 7) East, West Limit : Press E key on the RCU continuously until your antenna reaches to the easternmost point and then pressOK key on the RCU. The message of“Would you like to set East limit of DiSEqCmotor? ” will be displayed for your confirmation. Place cursor on the “OK” and press OK key on the RCU to confirm the East limit. Then, the value of East Limit will be changed to “set be ”. To set West limit, take the same steps as East limit. 8) Reset DiSEqC limit : If you want to reset the East limit or West limit, place the cursor on ResetDiSEqCLimit button and then, pressOK key on the RCU. The message of “Would you like to reset limit for DiSEqC positioner ?” will be displayed for your confirma tion. Select OK button and press OK key on the RCU. The cursor will move to the East limit button so that you can reset the limit. After that, please reset West limit same as before. After setting all necessaries, please EXIT to finish antenna setup menu. The message of “Are you sure to change the configuration of antenna setup? ” will be displayed. Please select OK button on the screen and then wait for saving data. -21- User Installation Antenna Setup-2) Fixed 1) Antenna : You can select maximum 16 antennas with the combination of switches. 2) Type : Select your antenna type to be Fixed. 3) Univ. LNB: Select your LNB type. If you have universal LNB, select YES otherwise select NO. 4) LNB Freq. : Enter the proper LNB frequency referring to your LNB using numeric key on the RCU or use KEY PAD displayed by pressing OK key. 5) Switches (0/12 Volt, 13/18 Volt, DiSEqC) : You can select the switches with which you want to configure the antenna. 6) C/Ku band control : You can select C/Ku band by selection of switch type. After setting all necessaries, press EXIT key to finish antenna setup menu. The message “Are of you sure to change the configuration of Antenna setup? ” will be displayed. Please select OK button on the screen and then wait for saving data. -22- User Installation Channel Search-1)DiSEqC 1.2 1) Antenna : Select your antenna number. 2) Satellite : Select a satellite using keys or if you press OK key. Then, the list of satellite will be displayed so that you can select easily. You can see the information of the selected satellite in the right side. Edit Mode : If you want to edit those preprogrammed data such as Transponder, Frequency, Symbol Rate, Polarization, Skew and 22 KHz, please press MENU key on the RCU to display the command box. Check edit mode by pressing OK key on the RCU and then you can go into those columns to change the value. 3) Position : After selecting a satellite, please select Position button and then keep pressing E or W key on the RCU until selected satellite is locked. If the satellite is locked correctly, the white color of signal label bar will be changed to yellow. When you press OK key on the RCU, the message of “Would you like to set the value of current positioner ?” will be displayed for your confirmation. 4) Transponder : Select a transponder using keys or if you press OK key, transponder List will be displayed so that you can select easily. 5) Frequency & Symbol Rate : If you press MENU key on the RCU in this menu, command box will be displayed. Check edit mode by pressing OK key on the RCU and then you can go into those columns to change the value. -23- User Installation 6) Polarization : SelectHor or Ver. 7) 22KHz : Select ON or OFF. 8) Search 1 Sat : DSR allows you to search channels with convenient options as follows, select one using arrow keys. -Search 1 SAT : Search channels in one satellite which selected on Satellite column. -Search TP : Search channels in one TP which selected on TP column. -Search Network : Search Channels transmitted by satellite network information table(NIT). -Search all SAT : Search all channels at once all satellites selected. 9) Set PID : If you want to set PID (Packet Identifier) manually, select TP in the “Channel Search Page ” and press MENU key on the RCU to display command box. And select SET PID command and press OK, then set PID menu will be displayed. Enter the correct value and select OK. 10) Sat Name Edit : If you want to change a name of satellite, select a satellite and press MENU key on the RCU to display command box. Select Sat Name Edit, then, Keypad Dialog box will be appeared. Using arrow key on the RCU, you can edit the satellite name. 11) Delete TP : If you want to delete a TP, select a TP to be deleted and press MENU key on the RCU to display command box. Then, select Delete TP command and the confirm message box will be displayed. -24- User Installation 12) Re-Sync : When all location of searched satellites are shifted by unknown reason, you can realign all of them at once if you adjust one satellite ’s location. 13) Go to 0o for DiSEqC1.2 : When you install the motor of DiSEqC1.2 antenna at first, you can select this function to move o 0 the center of antenna to be 14) Search Option : DSR allows you to search channels with convenient options as follows. -FTA only -Not searched TP only -Sort by scramble If you select FTA only, DSR searches FTA channels only. If you select Not searched TP only, DSR searches channels in the TP which is not searched or new TP. If you select Sort by Scramble, DSR sorts thescrambled channels automatically. When searching is started, the name of channels searched will be displayed on the screen. When searching is finished, the cursor will be placed on the View button automatically. Press OK key to save the channel list and watch the channel searched . Select Exit to search again. -25- User Installation Channel Search-2) Fixed 1) Antenna : Select your antenna number. 2) Satellite : Select a desired satellite using 56 keys or if you press OK key, the list of satellite will be displayed so that you can select easily. You can see the information of selected satellite in the right side. 3) Edit Mode : If you want to edit those preprogrammed data such as Transponder, Frequency, Symbol Rate, Polarization, Skew and 22 KHz, please press MENU key on the RCU to display the command box. Check edit mode by pressing OK key on the RCU and then you can go into those columns to change the value. 4) ~ 14) Please refer to DiSEqC1.2 type antenna. -26- User Installation System Setting System Setting menu provides variety of choice which is matching to your environment. 1) OSD Color : You can select the color of Night, Ocean, Wine, Grass. 2) OSD Language : Select your desired OSD Language. 3) Audio Language : Select your desired audio language to be in the top priority under the condition that this language is support -ed from the channel. 4) LNB power : The default value of LNB power is ON. Select Off in the case of the LNB power is not necessary. 5) Screen Format : If your TV supports 16:9 screen format and selected channel provides 16:9 format program, select 16:9. 6) Video output : If your SCART supports RGB control, select RGB. Otherwise select CVBS. 7) TV type : Select the type according to your TV type. 8) Volume save : You can save volume by each channel. 9) Start On Channel: If you pressOK key, then the channel list displayed. is You can select one channel of the list, the selected channel starts whenever you turn onDSR. 10) UHF Standard : Select UHF type. 11) UHF Channel : Select your desired UHF channel for satellite mode. -27- User Installation Parental Lock This function allows you to lock the channel with your password in order to prevent from accessing the channel by your children or any other person. And also you can protect your installed data and information by using Install Lock. ★ How to change Password 1) Enter the current password. 2) Select ON of Parental Lock. 3) Enter new password. 4) Confirm your new password by entering new password again. Note : Default password is 0000. Warning : Once you change password, please do not forget and keep well. ★ How to use Parental Lock 1) If you want to activate parental lock function, go to the TV Channel Manager Page. 2) Press MENU key to have command box and select Lock. 3) Select channel the which you want to Lock 4) Press OK then symbol is marked. 5) Exit this menu and Turn off the DSR Note : To activate Parental Lock, you have to turn off DSR once. And turn on the DSR and select channel which is locked. Then, enter your password. -28- User Installation ★ How to use Install Lock 1) Enter the current password. 2) Select ON of Install Lock 3) Enter new password 4) Confirm your new password by entering new password again 5) Exit this menu and Turn off the DSR 6) Turn on DSR key on the RCU and pressMENU 7) Select any menu and press OK on the RCU . 8) Then Enter Password Box will dis beplayed. 9) Unless enter correct password, you can not run any menu. Note : Default password is 0000 Warning : Do not forget your password in order not to fail to operate DSR Factory Default If you want to bring DSR back to the factory default condition, select Factory Default and press OK key. Then, warning message will be displayed. To confirm, select OK and press OK. Warning : You will lose all of data and information which was installed. -29- Common Interface DSR makes you enjoy various scrambled channels encrypted Viaccess by , Nagravision , Irdeto, Conax, Cryptoworks and SECA. Preparing To be able to receive scrambled digital satellite channels you will need Smartcard and a Common Interface CA (Conditional Access) module form the Service Provider of your choice. The Smartcardand the CA module may also provide access to special menus not described in this manual. If so, please follow the instructions from the Service provider. Only free to air channels are available without the Smartcardand CA Module. Input the CA Module in the slot of DSR. And insert Smartcardto the CA module entirely. If it is done, you can enjoy scrambled channels relating with your CA Module and Smarcard The ConaxCA Module is embedded DSR. in So you just insertSmartcardto the slot without ConaxCA Module. Then you can enjoy ConaxChannel. Note :DSR has 3 slot of 2 CA Module you can change what you want and Conax CA Module. Check Manager Select Common Interface menu in the Main Menu page. Then DSR detects and shows the Embedded ConaxAccess and CA Module names, which you insert. Then select one of these slots, which you want Then you can see the information, which Program provider presents. Note : This information may be different according to the Program Provider. -30- General Function The following describes the basic functions of your DSR while watching satellite TV or listening to satellite radio. DSR enables you to watch various scrambled channels by inserting the CAMs and Smartcards according to your choice. While watching, the current channel information will be shown on the bottom of the screen if you pressINFO button on the RCU. Select Channel If you want to select channel, use key CH on the front panel,PR+, PR- key on the RCU or numeric key on the RCU to select a channel and press OK key on the RCU. In addition to the above normal function, DSR provides more convenient channel change function. While watching, press OK/LIST key on the RCU or front panel. Then channel list will be displayed on the screen. If press EXIT key, the channel list will be disappeared. You can sort channel list by All, Favorite group, Satellite, Alphabet as follows. 1) All : It shows you all channel list sort by alphabet. 2) Favorite group : You can make favorite group in the menu of channel manager. It shows that group, and you can select one favorite group, then channel list belongs that group will be displayed. 3) Satellite : If you select ‘Satellite ’, the list of satellite searched in DSR will be displayed. Then you can select satellite you want. After that, you can see channel list belongs to the satellite. 4) Alphabet : If you select A or …B channel list(head of channel name A or B…) will be displayed. -31- General Function Pause the frame PressPAUSE key on the RCU to pause the screen. To bring it back to the normal mode, press PAUSE key once again. Previous channel recall Press ← PR key on the RCU to move the previous channel which you were watching before the current channel. TV & Radio mode While watching a TV channel, press TV/RADIO key on the RCU to move to the radio mode. Press this key once again, it will bring you back to the TV mode. TV & VCR mode By pressing TV/AV key on the RCU, you can change the mode from satellite to TV or VCR. Press once to move to the TV mode and LED displays TV. Press twice to move to the VCR mode and LED displays VCR. Press three times to move back to satellite mode and LED displays the channel number. -32- General Function Channel Information Every time you change channels, you will receive program information for a few second. While watching channel, you can see the current channel information anytime by pressing INFO key on the RCU. Note : Channel information will be displayed for 6 seconds and disappeared. You can adjust the display time interval from 2 to 12 seconds. Volume & Audio Control 1) Volume Control To increase or decrease volume, use the RCU or keyon the frontpanel. key on Note : DSR has 18 volume levels and this shall be controlled from the adjusted volume level of your TV. 2) Mute To mute the sound, press button on the RCU. To bring back the normal sound, press this key once again. 3) Audio Control Press the key repeatedly to select one of three possible audio settings (Left, Right and Stereo) The current audio status will be displayed in the channel information. 4) Language Selection Press theALT-AUDIO key on the RCU repeatedly to select audio -language. This is dependent on the transmission of audio signal from the satellite which supports multi -language. Position If you need to adjust the antenna more accurately to watch a clear channel, press POSITION key on the RCU and then the position bar will be displayed. Press E or W key on the RCU to adjust for clear channel. -33- Channel Manager DSR provides most powerful channel managing function in the d and worl this function allows you to have a more interesting and useful operation as well as watching channels simply. Channel Manager Channel Manager consists of TV Channel and Radio Channel. Press OK key placing the cursor on the TV Channel. Note :Since the operation of Radio Channel is same as that of TV channel, in this manual only TV Channel is explained. In the left side of TV channel menu, you can see the channel list which were already searched and in the right side, you can watch the current channel in small Picture in Graphic (PIG) mode (1/9 size of the normal) and you can see channel information under the PIG screen. When you move cursor from one channel to another, PIG will change accordingly. Press MENU key on the RCU, then command menu will be displayed TV Channel manager has 9 commands as follows; 1. Favorite 2. Move 3. Lock 4. Rename 5. Delete 6. Sort 7. Fast edit mode 8. Go To 9. Exit Select a function by pressing OK key. -34- Channel Manager Favorite When you select channel manager, default favorite list will be showed on the screen as Favorite 1. Select your favorite channel and then press OK key. Then will be marked at rear of your selected channel name. And if you want to delete the channel name in the favorite channel list, press OK key once again, then the mark will be disappeared. After the selection of favorite channels press EXIT key twice to save data and press FAV key repeatedly to see if each of the favorite groups are properly selected. means scrambled channel. ★ How to make favorite group 1. When you enter channel manager, the default favorite group will be showed once on the screen as Favorite 1. 2. In the channel manager page, press MENU key on the RCU and select FAVORITE, then Favorite group 1,2,3 will be displayed. After that, select group and cursor channel what you want and press ok key by group. Move In the TV channel Manager Page, press MENU key on the RCU and select MOVE in the command box. Select a channel by pressing OK key and move the cursor to the location in which you want to move the selected channel and press OK key. Then, you will find the selected channel has moved to the desired location and channel no. also changed in order accordingly. And check whether the channel number is changed on the channel list or not. -35- Channel Manager Lock In the TV Channel Manager Page, press MENU key on the RCU, and select Lock on the command menu. This Lock command allows you to lock the channel. First, select the channel, which you want to lock and pressOK key and then, will be marked at rear of the selected channel name. Note : To perform this function, you should set up the Parental Lock in advance. Rename In the TV channel Manager Page, press MENU key on the RCU, and select Rename on the command menu. The Rename function allows you to rename the channel. First, select channel to be renamed and press OK key, then, the keypad dialog will be displayed. Edit new name by selecting characters or numbers. To delete characters or numbers, select◀ in the keypad dialog. And check whether the channel name is changed on channel list properly or not. -36- Channel Manager Delete In the TV Channel Manager Page, press MENU key on the RCU, and then select Delete on the command menu. Then, sub-menu like Delete CH, TP, Satellite and all will be displayed. This Delete command allows you to delete the channel permanently. First select the channels, which you want to delete, then selected channel number will be changed to yellow X mark. If you cancel the selection, press OK key again, then the number will be back. If you decided to delete, press EXIT key and then Message box will be displayed. Press OK to delete. And check whether the selected channels are deleted on the channel list or not. Warning : The deleted channel can not be recovered unless you search again. Please be careful when you decide to delete channels. Sort In the TV Channel Manager Page, press MENU key on the RCU, and select Sort on the command menu. This Sort menu has its sub command and it allows you to sort the channels as you like. You can sort the channels by Favorite, Lock, Scramble, SAT name and CH name. Place the cursor on your desired line, and then press OK key. And check whether the channels are sorted properly on the channel list or not. Note : Radio Channel Manager has the same way of operation as TV channel Manager. -37- Channel Manager Fast Edit mode Fast edit mode allows you to edit channel faster than normal without showing channels selected. If you turn off the Fast edit mode, DSR will show each channels selected in the small PIG screen and it takes few seconds more to edit channels. Go To Function GoTo function enables you to go to any page of the menu tree by the adoption of Open Architecture Concept for the implementation of software. This powerful function makes the menu system to be user -friendly and easy -touse. ★ How to use GO TO function. 1. PressMENU key on the RCU in the menu. 2. Select a TV Channel in the Channel Manager. 3. After your working in the TV Channel, pressMENU key on the RCU. 4. Then menu box will be displayed. 5. Select Go To menu and press OK key. 6. Then sub -menu list will be displayed. 7. Select Timer and press OK key. 8. Then you can go to the Timer Page directly 9. If you go back to TV Channel, repeat the procedure of Go To function. -38- Electronic Program Guide(EPG) DSR provides EPG function for you to get access to the TV Guide(or Radio Guide if you are listening to radio channels) which will show the titles and other information of the current and next programs on different channels. The information is only available from the network of the channel you are watching. To see the EPG data, press EPG key on the RCU when watching a channel or select Program Guide in the Main Page. Then, EPG box will be displayed. You can see the channel in the PIG screen, channel list in the left side and Program schedule for selected channel will be displayed in the right side. The time will be displayed in relation with the program schedule. Note : A “No information yet ” message will be shown if the selected channel does not provide EPG data. -39- Timer You can adjust the real time as well as you can program the timer with various ways. This function is one of the strong point of DSR. Time Adjust Usually you get the information of real time from the satellite automatically but sometimes they emit wrong information. In that case, you can adjust the real time at this function. Time Reservation To activate the “Turn on time ” and/or“Turn Off the time” as well as recording time. It enables to select timer maximum 10. Timer allows you to program the various timer function. You can set the timer daily, weekly, monthly and one time -40- Antenna Direction Help Although you entered correct value in Antenna Set up menu, if your antenna is positioned incorrectly, you could not receive signal from the Satellite. So DSR provides Antenna Positioning Help in order for you to have exact information to direct your antenna toward a satellite. First, select your desired Satellite name and then the location of selected satellite will be displayed. In case the location of the satellite is changed, you should re -set the new location. Second, enter the value of Longitude and Latitude of your location. If you entered correct value of your position, place your cursor on Compute and press OK key.
