E DGE W IRELESS S YSTEM (EWS-150g)
Quick Start Guide
Package Contents
1. EWS-150g unit
2. Antennas (2)
3. Ethernet cable (6 feet)
This wireless network device has been tested and found
to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device,
pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are
designed to provide reasonable protection against
harmful interference in a residential installation. This
wireless network device generates, uses, and radiates
radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in
accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful
interference to radio communications. For technical
support, consult your Service Provider.
4. Power supply and cable (6 feet)
Connect the Antennas
Attach both antennas to the unit. Do not
apply excessive force when screwing on
the antennas—just finger tight.
Position the Antennas
Adjust both antennas to the upright
position until they snap into place.

Choose a Suitable Location
For best reception, the EWS-150g should
be located as close as possible to a
window or an outside wall.
On the front panel of the unit, there are
two LED indicators:
• SIG
For 802.11g wireless communication.
A convenient power outlet is required
within 6 feet of the unit, and the LAN
source (your computer) must be reachable
with the supplied Ethernet cable (unless
you purchase a longer cable).
Power On the Unit
• PWR
Indicating that power is on.
Connect the Ethernet Cable
If the unit will be connected to an
Ethernet LAN, then connect one end of
the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet socket
on the rear of the unit, then connect the
other end to the LAN port on your
computer or router.
Signal
Power
Ethernet cable
After applying power to the unit, the
Power LED will flash for approximately 20
seconds. Following that, the Power LED
should remain lit without flashing, and
the Signal LED should flash intermittently.
Connect the Power Supply
Plug the power supply connector into the
power receptacle on the rear of the unit,
then connect the power supply to the
power outlet.

Plug & Play
The installation of your EWS-150g Edge
Wireless System is complete. You may
verify correct operation using a computer
connected to the Ethernet LAN by
opening your browser and connecting to
a Web site.
The EWS-150g comes with some basic
functions that allow you to monitor the
unit’s performance and make physical
adjustments to the antennas to maximize
the available wireless signal. If your
service provider allows guest access to
the unit’s Web interface, log in then go to
Step 9 to utilize these functions.

Monitoring
The EWS-150g is equipped with a variety of monitoring features and a troubleshooting aid, all of which
are available from the Monitor tab in the unit’s Web interface. In addition, there are several quick links on
the home page that will direct you to the key monitoring functions. The home page also includes an
Antenna Aimer, which allows you to monitor signal strength while manually directing the unit’s antenna
(this function is only available from the home page). Monitoring functions include:
•
Event Log
•
L2NAT
•
Troubleshooting
•
Wireless Neighbors
•
Statistics
•
Wireless History
Because the EWS-150g monitors are intuitive and to avoid redundancy, this document does not provide
examples of all available monitors. It does, however, provide an example of the Troubleshooting window
and the Antenna Aimer.
Where monitors are in tabular form the table can be sorted by column by simply clicking in the column
header. For example, in Wireless Neighbors you may want to display the results sorted by RSSI value. In
this case, click in the RSSI (dBm) column header. To reverse the displayed order (descending instead of
ascending), click in the column header again.

Troubleshooting
This feature is provided as a convenient tool for testing your wireless configuration and associations. To
initiate the troubleshooting tool, click on the Monitor tab then click on Troubleshooting to display the
Troubleshooting window.
Click on the Start Troubleshooting button to begin the process.

Antenna Aimer
Available from the Home page, this tool is provided to assist you when attempting to find the optimum
placement for the EWS-150g. The process is dynamic and interactive, which means that when you
reposition the unit or its antennas you are presented with a response indicating the received signal
strength.
