proper use of the mobile phone, please read the following guidelines carefully: Do not switch the mobile phone on when close to chemical factory, gas station or other explosive objects. While driving, please use headset for safety purposes, unless otherwise in emergency, always stop the car on roadside to have a call conversation. Because the use of the mobile phone can cause interference in the aircraft, never use the mobile phone in an aircraft. The use of the mobile phone is dangerous and illegal; do switch off the mobile phone before boarding. Pay special attention to the use of the mobile phone near heart pacemaker, deaf‐aid and some other medical equipment, because the mobile phone can cause interference with them. Non genuine accessories will harm your device and could result in warranty cancellation Do not dismantle the mobile phone without permission. In case of failure, please contact the supplier as soon as possible. Do not plug the charger into the mobile phone and charge without battery. Always power off the mobile phone when taking out the battery; otherwise the memory of the phone may be damaged. When charging the mobile phone, always keep it in the place with good ventilation, heat sink and away from flammable and explosive objects. In order to avoid demagnetization, always keep the mobile phone away from magnetic objects such as CD, credit card etc. Ensure the mobile phone not to contact any liquid; once such case occurs, remove the battery and contact the supplier immediately. Do not use the mobile phone in the environment with too high or too low temperature, never expose the mobile phone under strong sunshine or too wet environment. The suitable temperature for the phone and accessories is 0℃‐ 40℃. The height to use the phone shall be less than 2,000m. Do not use liquid or wet cloth with strong cleanser to clean the mobile phone. This mobile phone has shooting, video and audio recording functions, which shall be used as per the related laws and regulations. Always keep the mobile phone out of children’s reach. Do not throw or vibrate the mobile phone because violent treatment to the mobile phone may damage the inner circuits and precise structures. Please do not discard the waste battery into general household garbage. Please deal with the waste battery according to provisions. Warning: Company will not bear any responsibility for any incompliance with the above guidelines or improper use of the mobile phone. Our company keeps the right to make modifications to any of the content here in this user guide without public announcement in advance. The content of this manual may vary from the actual content displayed in mobile phone. In such case, the latter shall govern. Mobile Phone Profile Power key LED Front camera Volume up/down Light sensor Receiver LCD Screen Back Menu Home Search Camera Speaker Preparation before Use Install SIM Card When registering mobile phone number, you can apply for a phone number, the mobile phone network service obtains a SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card. The SIM card save the parameters needed for communications and personal data, including PIN (Personal Identification Number) code, phonebook, short message and other extra system services. Warning: Do not distort or scratch the SIM card nor let it contact static, dust or moisture. If it is lost, please contact immediately your network operator for help. Before SIM card installation, please switch off the mobile phone. The SIM card is installed on the back of the mobile phone. Follow the diagram on how to install the SIM card. Note: As the SIM card is small object, keep it out of children’s reach. SIM Cards Install Memory card As the mobile phone does not have enough storage space, to use some functions, you need to install a memory card (This mobile phone use Micro SD card.) Install Micro SD card: Open the back cover to take out the battery, release the Micro SD card lock, insert the Micro SD card into its slot, and restore the lock and the battery before restarting the mobile phone. 10 Micro SD Card Note: As the Micro SD card is small object, keep it out of children’s reach! Install Battery The mobile phone must be used with original battery and accessories. When the battery is idle, it is recommended to put it into the protection box. Follow the diagram on how to install the battery. Note: Do install the battery as per the diagram so as prevent the battery contact patch being damaged. 11 Battery Charge Battery The new battery cannot reach the optimal efficiency unless it has undergone several continuous complete charges and discharges. When the battery is used up, charge it in time. Over‐ discharge can damage the battery. After the battery is fully charged, cut off the connection of charger with the AC power supply and the connection with the mobile phone. 12 While charging, the battery capacity icon will display on the checkbox. After the battery is fully charged, the icon is full of bars. Charging……. Fully Charged……. Warning: When a travel charger and its accessories are used to charge the battery, please check first if they are original or recognized by the original manufacturer. The use of other accessories may damage your mobile phone and cause risks! Always use them indoor and dry places. Notices on using the battery The performance of the battery is affected by many factors, including radio barrier network settings, signal strength, work temperature, chosen and used functions or settings as well as phone accessories, data or other applications. For optimal performances, please follow the rules below: New battery or the battery has been idle for a long time, needs charging for longer time also. The standard voltage scope for the battery is 3.6V‐4.2V. While charging, keep the battery at room temperature or similar temperature. As time pass by, the battery will gradually be worn and thus need longer time to charge. This is normal. However, after normal charging, if call duration decreases but charging time increases, you need to buy another battery from the original manufacturer or authorized by the 13 original manufacturer. The battery of inferior quality can damage your mobile phone and cause danger! If the phone is overused at low battery when charging, there might need a longer time for the charge indicator to be shown on the screen. Note: Please dispose of the battery according to the local regulations. Try to recycle the battery as possible. Do not treat the waste battery as common waste. Warning: Do not throw the battery into fire so as to prevent fire. A broken battery may cause explosion. PIN code PIN Code: It is the personal identification number used to enter SIM and able to prevent others using SIM card without permission. If the mobile phone has activated the PIN code protection, when the mobile phone is switched on, the screen will display “Input PIN”. In the process of inputting PIN code, the screen will use “.” to represent the input content. While obtaining SIM, you can obtain its PIN code. To change the locked PIN code, you need to use PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code. To learn how to enable or disable the SIM PIN, see "Protecting Your SIM card with a PIN" in the Security chapter. Warning: If the PIN code is inputted wrongly for three consecutive times, the SIM card will be locked. Please contact the network operator immediately for help. 14 Attempting to unlock the code may make the SIM card ineffective permanently. Basic Operation Switch on/off Once you installed your SIM card, battery, micro SD card, press the POWER button to switch on your phone. The moment you long press the POWER button, it will show the phone options, choose to touch the “Power off” on the screen to turn the unit off. Sleep mode To make your phone to enter sleep mode, go to settings → Display →Screen timeout. 1. Switching to Sleep mode ◆Manual: Quick pressing the Power button will turn the display off temporarily and your phone will go to sleep mode. ◆Automatic: If you leave the phone idle for a certain period of time, your phone will change to Sleep mode automatically. 2. Waking up from Sleep mode Your phone wakes up automatically when you have an incoming call. To wake up your phone manually, press the POWER button, and press the unlock icon to unlock the screen. 15 Home screen Extended Home screen Slide your finger horizontally across the screen to go to the left or right side of the Home screen. Upon long press and hold on the screen, you can add Shortcuts, Widgets, Folders and Wallpaper to Home screen. Applications Menu On Home Screen, press Application icon applications menu. to enter the Notifications Notification icons on the status bar report the arrival of new messages, calendar events, alarms set and ongoing settings such as when call forwarding is on or the current call status. 16 You can open the Notifications panel to open the message, reminder, or event notification and see the mobile operator’s name. 1. Opening the Notifications panel When a new notification icon displays in the status bar, press and hold the status bar, then slide your finger downward to open the Notifications panel. If you have several notifications, you can scroll down the status bar to view more notifications. You can also open the Notifications panel on the Home screen by pressing Menu button and then tapping Notifications. 2. Closing the Notifications panel Do one of the following: 17 (1)Press an nd hold the botto om bar of the Nottifications panel, then slide your finger up th he screen. (2) Press BACK directly. Adjustingg the volume 1. Adjustin ng the ringer volume: (1) Press VOLUME UP or VOLUME DOWN buttons on the right side of o the phone to adjust the ringer volume. (2)When it’s in the loweest level alreadyy, pressing the VOLUME DOWN once will change the pho one to Vibration Mode. Wh hile in Vibration Mode, the vibrattion icon will appear on the status bar. (3)When it’s in Vibration n Mode alreadyy, pressing the VOLUME UP U once will chan nge to Ringer Mod de. (4) To swittch the phone to Silent Mode direectly and quickly, press and hold Power buttton, and then, when the option menu appeears, tap Silent Mode. 2. Adjustin ng the media volu ume (1) Press VOLUME UP or VOLUME DOWN buttons on the right side of o the phone to adjust the mediaa volume to the level you want. At the same time, the music/video volume 18 window appears on the screen, which displays the level of volume synchronously with your adjustment. 3. You can also adjust the volume through settings screen. Press HOME >Applications, and then tap Settings >Audio profile> tap General/ Meeting/ Outdoor > Volume. When the volume window appears, drag the slider to the left to lower the volume or to the right to increase the volume. You can adjust the volume of ringtone and alarm here. Tap OK to close the window. Connecting your phone to a computer Once you use the USB cable to connect your phone to a computer, the LED will turn red if the battery is not full. It will charge the phone automatically. When the charge is finished, the LED will turn green. The status bar displays “USB connected”. Drag down the indications on status bar. You can set the USB connection from the following aspects: 1. USB debugging connected ◆USB debugging Select to choose debug mode when USB is connected ◆Stay awake Choose to make the screen never sleep while charging ◆Allow mock locations 2. USB connected Turn on/off USB storage here. Select to copy files to/from your computer. 19 Copying files to and from the SD card 1. Connect your phone to the computer with the supplied USB cable. 2. When the “USB debugging connected” appears, tap USB connected. 3. On the computer, the connected phone is recognized as a removable disk. Navigate to this removable disk and open it. 4. Then you can copy the files from the computer to the root folder of the storage card in the phone and vice versa. 5. Disconnect the phone from the computer: Remove the USB cable as your computer’s safety requirement. Personalizing Making your phone truly yours Personalize your phone with different wallpapers, ringtones, and notification sounds for events such as incoming text, email, calendar reminders, and more. Your phone's Home screen can be customized and extends beyond the screen width, giving you plenty of space to add new information. You have extended screens that extend to the left and right sides of your display as your Home screen, on which you can add elements such as widgets, program icons, shortcuts to information, and more. Changing the ringtone Choose from the available selections of ringtones on your phone. You can also download or copy ringtones or songs to your phone's storage card and choose one to use as 20 your ringtone. To find out how you can copy files to your storage card, see "Copying files to and from the SD card". Press HOME, and then tap Settings> tap Audio profile> General/Meeting/Outdoor>Phone ringtone; Tap the ringtone you want to use. The ringtone briefly plays when selected. If you desired to use the music on your Micro SD card as the ringtone, tap Music, select the music in Library, long press the desired music and tap “Use as phone ringtone” on the options list. To find out how to set notification sounds for events, see "Settings> Audio profile > General / Meeting / Outdoor >Notifications>Notification ringtone". Changing your wallpaper Personalize your Home screen wallpaper. To change your wallpaper to your desired one, long press anywhere on the idle HOME screen and select wallpaper from the pop‐up options. Personalizing your Home screen with widgets ◆Two methods to add a widget on your Home screen Method 1: Press HOME: Go to Home screen→ long press and hold on the screen→ Tap Widget. You can choose the Widget amongst analog clock, calendar, music, picture frame, power control and search. 21 Method 2:Tap Menu, tap Add and tap Widgets. If there is no more space for adding a widget, you can add the widget on another screen or rearrange the current Home screen. Adding application icons and other shortcuts on your Home screen Two methods to add application icons on the Home screen: Method 1: Press HOME. Go to Home screen→ press and long hold on the screen→ Tap Shortcuts. Method 2:Tap Menu, tap Add and tap Shortcuts. After tapping the Shortcuts, you can choose the desired application on the Home screen where the space is enough. Adding folders on your Home screen Use folders to group related applications and other shortcuts to keep your Home screen tidy and organized. 1. Creating a new folder and adding items to it Method 1: Press HOME. Go to Home screen→ long press and hold on the screen→ Tap Folders. Method 2: Tap Menu, tap Add and tap Folders. If you select New Folder, press and hold an application icon or a shortcut that you want to move to the folder. The phone then vibrates. Don't lift your finger. Drag the application icon or shortcut and drop it on top of the folder. 22 Then, simp ply tap the folder to open it so you u can access the application ns and shortcuts inside the folder.. 2. Rearranging or removin ng widgets and icons on your Home scrreen Rearrange the widgets and d icons on your Home screen to give room for adding moree items to the Ho ome screen. You can also remove widgetts and icons that you don’t frequently use. ◆Moving a widget or icon 1. Long press and hold the t widget or ico on you want to move. The phonee vibrates and you'll see this ico on on the bottom of the screen. Don't release your ho old on the icon. 2. Drag the widget or icon to a new location n on the screen. Pause at the t left or right edge of the screeen to drag the widget or icon onto anotheer Home screen panel. 3. When the t widget or ico on is where you want it, release your hold on o it. If you've released it but a message shows that there's no space to place the widget or o icon, drag it rigght or left again to anotherr Home screen paanel. ◆Removin ng a widget or ico on 1. Drag th he widget or ico on to this icon . The Phone button theen changes into the Remove bu utton and turns red. 3. When the widget or iccon also turns reed, release your hold on it. And it will be rem moved from the previous screen. Use of Menu Functio ons TELCEL STK servicee is the tool kit of o SIM card. This phone supports the servicee function .The specific items arre depended by SIM card and network. iTelcel Access iTellcel to register a new Email accou unt, you can use it to send and a receive mailss. Ideas For entertaainment purposee, enter the sub‐m menu, select the desired one. 24 iApps Music About Mu usic Application Enjoy listen ning to songs and d music on your phone using the Music app plication. You neeed to copy mussic files to your storage caard first to use the Music appllication to play music. To find out how to copy files, see "Copying files to and from the t storage card" in the Basics chaapter. To open th he Music applicattion, press HOMEE > Applications > Music. The Musicc application opeens in the latestt menu screen. There are 4 main menus: Artists, Album ms, Songs and Playlists. Music Plaaying Screen Tap any so ong will enter thee playing screen. When any song is playing, the Music icon appears on sttatus bar of the 25 phone. Draag it down will w show the onggoing music and tap it will enter Music Playing screen directly. Use the on nscreen controls to control musicc playing, pause, fast‐forward, backwards, reepeat songs, and more. 1. Tap this icon to playy music. 2. Tap this to pause it. 3. Tap this icon to playy the next song; press and hold it for seconds to fast‐forward d within the song.. 4. Tap this to play the previous song; press and hold it for seconds to backwards within the song. 5. This pro ogress bar indicates the progresss of the song, press and drag your finger across the progrress bar to jump to any partt of the song. , it shows 6. Below this icon the artist, album, and the song title. 7. Press this icon will back to the Library, you y can tap any other songg and play it. will turn 8. Press this icon on or off shuffle. When the button is gray, tap it will turn shuffle on while when the button is Blue,, tap it will tu urn shuffle off. 9. Press th his icon will turn on or off reepeating. When the button n is gray, tap it will repeat the currrent song while when the button is blue, tap it will turn off the t repeat. 10. Press the t VOLUME UP P or VOLUME DO OWN button to adjust the playback volumee. 11. Use th he wired headseet to listen to music, press the center button to toggle between playin ng and pausing 26 playback. Press the previous or next button to go to the previous or next song. Sending music using Bluetooth/Gmail/Messaging You can send music by the following way: 1. Home> Applications > File Manager 2. Press and hold on the song you want to send 3. When the options appear, choose Send. 4. When the options appear, choose one of the following: Bluetooth, Gmail, or Messaging 5. It will turn to Sending screen, fill in the other information, such as receiver, then confirm sending. Portal Movil MSN Talk Pro Sign in MSN by writing ID and password. You need to have GPRS, or connect with WLAN. Imk Connect to internet to listen to music online. Videos Home>Applications>Videos Use the application, you can watch videos that you've taken with your phone's camera, downloaded, or copied onto your storage card. After selecting an album from the video application's Albums screen, you can browse through the videos of that album either in filmstrip or grid view. Tap a video to view it in full screen. 27 The screen automatically switches to laandscape mode when you play a video. Use the onscreen controls to play, pause, fastt‐forward or backkward the video. Camera Camera basics You can take photos with your camera, and d the photos will be stored in the T‐card byy default. Ensuree that you plug Micro SD card into the smart phone. To open th he camera in pho oto mode and takke photos, press HOME> Ap pplications > Cam mera. When in Gallery, tap meenu and then select “Capture picture ”to ” go into Camera screen. Camera Screen Viewfinderr screen The camerra displays in land dscape view only.. Take a pictture 28 Tap this icon Shutter Sound The camera will play a shutter sound when you press the shutter release. Review screen After capturing a photo or video, the Review screen will display the photo or the starting image of the video that you have just captured. You can tap the onscreen buttons to delete the photo or video, view it in the Gallery application, or share it. Switching between Camera and Video Mode Enter Video mode: 1. In any mode, tap and drag this icon to the other side will change the mode directly. 2. In any mode, tap Menu and choose “switch to camera/video” will also switch the mode. 29 3. Press HOME> Applications >Camera will directly go into the photo mode and photo taking screen. Mis archives You can manage the files and corresponding parameters. When the SD card is inserted into the mobile, you can mount the SD card in the settings firstly. Then you can manage the corresponding parameter in the SD card. You can also play the audio music and video, and read the text e‐book. Plugger Ijuegos Google search To use Google search, you must connect WLAN or get GPRS from your networking service supporter. Settings Wireless & Network You can customize wireless & network settings here, including: 1. Airplane mode Choose the check box to disable all wireless connections. 2. Wi‐Fi Turn on or turn off Wi‐Fi here. 3. Wi‐Fi settings Set up and manage wireless access point s here. 30 ◆Wi‐Fi settings: Turn on/off Wi‐Fi checkbox and Network notification check box. Bluetooth settings Manage Bluetooth connections, set device name & discoverability here. ◆Bluetooth settings: Turn on/off Bluetooth checkbox; Device name (Type or edit device name); Discoverable check box (Choose to make device discoverable; Scan for devices ◆Bluetooth devices: Scan for devices and then it will show the scanned devices. Choose a device to pair and then you can send or receive information via Bluetooth. 6. Tethering& portable hotspot Share your phone’s mobile data connection via USB or as a portable Wi‐Fi hotspot. 7.VPN settings Tap Add VPN and then choose one of the following: ◆Add PPTP VPN(Point‐to‐point Tunneling Protocol) ◆Add L2TP VPN(Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol) ◆Add L2TP/IPSec PSK VPN(Pre‐shared key based L2TP/IPSec VPN) ◆Add L2TP/IPSec CRT VPN(Certificate based L2TP/IPSec VPN) 31 And then set VPN name, VPN server, enable L2TP secret, DNS search domains to finish it. Brightness Adjust the brightness level here (by dragging the brightness slider to the left to decrease or to the right to increase the screen Brightness) 2. Auto‐rotate screen: Decide whether to rotate the screen automatically. 3. Animation: Choose to show no/some /all animations. 4. Screen timeout: After a period of inactivity, the phone screen turns off to conserve battery power. You can set the idle time before the screen turns off here. Choose from 34 the following options: 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 10 minutes and 30 minutes. 5. This is also called a hard reset. A factory reset is a drastic measure. It permanently erases all your personal data and customized settings, and also 37 removes any programs you have installed. Make sure that you have backed up the information and files you want to keep. If your phone hangs or freezes, we recommend that you do a "soft" reset instead of a hard/factory reset. To perform a soft reset, remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, and then re‐install it. After re‐installing the battery, turn on the phone. After you do a factory reset or update your phone, you will be asked if you want to restore the backed up data after you turn on your phone. If it is a special occasion such as a birthday or a whole‐day event, set the From and To date, then select the All day check box. 6. Enter the event location and description. 7. Set the reminder time. You can add another reminder time in a Google Calendar event. Press MENU and then tap Add reminder. 44 8. If you are synchronizing contacts with your Google account, with your PC, and/or with an Exchange Server, any contacts stored in those accounts are displayed in contacts. For more information on synchronizing accounts, see "Settings> Accounts & sync " chapter. Menus of Contacts On Contacts screen, press Menu will get the following screen, and you can tap the corresponding function icon to operate. 47 Display contacts Press HOME > Applications>Contacts, all of your contacts will automatically be displayed on the screen. Then tap OK on the confirm screen or tap Cancel to go back to contacts. Accounts 1. General sync settings, including Background data and Auto‐sync. When background data is on, applications can sync, send, and receive data at any time. When it’s off, it will extend battery life and lower data use; nevertheless, some applications may still use the background data connection. When Auto‐sync is on, the applications will sync data automatically. 2. Press Add account to add an exchange account. You can configure an exchange account in the new screen by inputting email address, password, and service settings. Downloads When you are downloading certain file or data, you can go to downloads to check the status. Then you can view all the alarms or add alarm. 3.To add alarm, you will set the time on the new screen, drag your finger up or down to roll the time scroll wheels and set the alarm time and then tap set. Press and hold on the alarm for a few seconds, the available options: Turn alarm on, Edit alarm, Delete alarm will display. Tap Turn Alarm On/Off here will also change the status of the alarm. 51 Deleting the alarm clock Press and hold on the alarm for a few seconds, the available options will display. Tap Delete alarm and tap OK to confirm, then the alarm would be deleted. You can also tap the alarm, and choose Delete on the screen. Turning the alarm clock on or off Press and hold on the alarm for a few seconds, the available options will be displayed. Tap Turn alarm on or off and tap OK to confirm Lock screen Clock Widget When the screen is locked, it will display a Lock screen Clock Widget as below, with the black hole on top and clock widget below. It displays the time, date, your located city, the weather information of your current location. To unlock the screen, drag the arrow on middle of the clock widget up to the black hole . Gallery About the Gallery application In using the Gallery application, you can view photos and watch videos that you've taken with your phone's camera, downloaded, or copied onto your storage card. For photos that are in your storage card, you can do basic editing such as rotate and crop. You can also easily make a photo as your contact picture or wallpaper and share photos to your friends. If you enter a wrong digit, tap this icon to erase that digit. To erase the entire number, press and hold it for a few seconds. If there is no matching contacts in the list after entering the number, tap icon to make a call as desired SIM card. ◆Smart Dial Simply enter the phone number or first few letters of the person you want to call. Handling multiple calls Your phone notifies you when you have another incoming call, and gives you the option of rejecting or accepting the call. If you are already on a call and accepted the new call, you can choose to switch between the two callers. (1) When you received another call, tap Answer to accept the second call, and to put the first call on hold. (2) To switch between callers, tap the person you want to talk to on the screen. (3) To end the current call and return to the other call, tap End call. You can start a conference call between all parties by merging the calls. To merge the calls, tap Merge calls at the bottom of the screen. Turn the phone sideways to t use a larger keeyboard that lets you type easily using two thumbs. The Orieentation check box in HOME >Applications> Settings >D Display >Auto‐rottate screen needs to be selected for the screeen orientation to t automatically change. The landsccape orientation keyboard is not supported in all application ns. Use the following keys while entering text using the onscreen keyboard: at the bottom of the keyboard to switch to the ◆Press numeric and symbol keyyboard. Then you can enter numbers, symbols and presss ALT to turn the page down or up. ◆ This is the Shift key. Tap T to enter an uppercase letter for the firrst letter. The next letter you type will be at lowercase.. ◆Tap twice to turn on caps lock and a green dot will show on the t icon. Then alll letters you enttered will be at uppercase letters. ◆ This is the Backspacee key. Tap to deleete the previous character. 74 Wi‐Fi Wi‐Fi provvides wireless Intternet access ovver distances of about 300 feet (100 meterrs). To use Wi‐Fi on your phone, you need access to a wireleess access point or o "hotspot". The availability and range of the Wi‐Fi signal depends on the numb ber, infrastructurre, and other objects through which the signal passes. Turning Wi‐Fi on and connecting to t a wireless network 1. Press HOME >Appliications> Settinggs >Wireless & networks 2. Select Wi‐Fi W settings, cho oose the Wi‐Fi ch heck box to turn Wi‐Fi on. The phone wiill scan for avaailable wireless networks. 3. Tap Wi‐Fi settings. The network namees and security settings off detected Wi‐Fi networks are displayed in the Wi‐Fi netw works section. 4. Tap a Wi‐Fi W network to connect. If you seelected an open network, you will be au utomatically con nnected to the network. If I you selected a network that is secured with WEP, enter the key and theen tap Connect. When your phone is conneected to a wireless network, the Wi‐Fi icon appears in th he status bar an nd tells you the approximaate signal strengtth (number of bands that light up). 75 The next time your pho one connects to o a previously accessed secured wirelesss network, you will not be prompted to enter the key or other securrity information again, unleess you reset yo our phone to its factory default settings. Checking the wireless network status 1. Press HOME >Applicaations>Settings > Wireless & networks. 2. On the Wireless & netw works screen, tap p Wi‐Fi settings, and then tap the wirelesss network thatt the phone is currently connected to. A message box is then displayed show wing the Wi‐Fi network naame, status, speeed, signal strengtth, and more. If you wan nt to remove the wireless netw work settings on your phone, tap Forget on this window. You need to enter the settinggs again if you want to connect to this wireless network. Connectin ng to another Wi‐Fi W network 1.On the Wireless& Netw work settings screeen. It displays Wi‐Fi settin ngs and Wi‐Fi nettworks. 2. Wi‐Fi seettings include: Wi‐Fi (Turn it on or o off here) and Network Notification (Notiffy or not when an n open network is availablee. 3. Wi‐Fi networks: It show ws all the netwo orks the phone scanned. Iff it needs the passsword to connect, there will be the icon beside the nam me of that netwo ork. 76 4. Tap the network you want to connect, then input the password if necessary, tap Connect. 5. If the wireless network you want to connect to is not in the list of detected networks, scroll down the screen, then tap Add Wi‐Fi network. Enter Network SSID, choose the Security, and then tap Save. Connecting to a virtual private network (VPN) From your phone, you can add, set up, and manage virtual private networks (VPNs) that allow you to connect and access resources inside a secured local network, such as your corporate network. Preparing your phone for VPN connection Depending on the type of VPN you are using at work, you may be required to enter your login credentials and/or install security certificates before you can connect to your company's local network. You can get this information from your network administrator. Also, your phone must first establish a Wi‐Fi or data connection before you can initiate a VPN connection. For information about setting up and using these connections on your phone, see "Data connection" and "Wi‐Fi" in this chapter. Setting up secure credential storage 77 If your network administrator instructs you to download and install security certificates, you must first set up the phone's secure credential storage. 1. Press HOME >Applications>Settings >Location& Security, and then tap Set password. 2. Enter a new password (at least 8 characters without any spaces) for the credential storage, scroll down and confirm the password, and then tap OK. 3. Select the Use secure credentials check box. You can then download and install the certificates needed to access your local network. Your network administrator can tell you how to do this. Adding a VPN connection 1. Press HOME >Applications> Settings > Wireless & networks > VPN settings. 2. Tap Add VPN, and then tap the type of VPN you want to add. There are defaulted types as below: Add PPTP VPN; Add L2TP VPN; Add L2TP VPN; Add L2TP/IPSec PSK VPN; Add L2TP/IPSec CRT VPN. 3. Tap the VPN settings and set them up according to the security details you have obtained from your network administrator. 4. When finished, press MENU, and then tap Save. The VPN is then added to the VPNs section of the VPN settings screen. Connecting to a VPN 78 1. Press HOME >Applicaations>Settings > Wireless & networks > VPN settings. 2. In the VPNs section, tap t the VPN thaat you want to connect to o. 3. When prompted, enter your log in credeentials, and then tap Connect. When you aree connected, the VPN connected icon appears in the nottification area of the title bar. 4. Open the web browseer to access resources such as intranet sittes on your corp porate network. Bluetootth Using Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short‐range wireless communications technologyy that allows deevices to exchan nge information 79 over a distance of about eight meters without requiring a physical connection. Turn off Bluetooth when not in use to conserve battery power, or in places where using a wireless device is prohibited, such as on board an aircraft and in hospitals. Turning Bluetooth on or off 1. Press HOME > Applications> MENU>Settings > Wireless & networks. 2. Select or clear the Bluetooth check box. An even easier way to turn Bluetooth on or off is with the Bluetooth icon on the Status Bar. Changing the phone name The phone name identifies your phone to other devices. 1. Press HOME >Applications>MENU>Settings > Wireless & networks. 2. If the Bluetooth check box is not selected, select it to turn Bluetooth on. 3. Tap Bluetooth settings > Device name. Connecting a Bluetooth headset or car kit You can listen to music over a Bluetooth stereo headset, or have hands‐free conversations using a compatible Bluetooth headset or car kit. It's the same procedure to set up stereo audio and hands‐free. For you to listen to music with your headset or car kit, the headset or car kit must support the A2DP Bluetooth profile. 80 1. Press HOME > MENU>A Applications> Setttings > Wireless & networkks > Bluetooth setttings. 2. If Bluetooth is not switched on, tap the Bluetooth check box to swittch it on. 3. Make su ure that the head dset is discoverab ble, so that your phone can n find the headseet. Refer to the in nstructions that came with h the headset to find out how w to set it in discoverab ble mode. 4. Tap Scaan for devices. Your phone will start to scan for Bluetooth devices within raange. 5. When you see the nam me of your headsset displayed in the Blueto ooth devices secttion, tap the nam me. Your phone then autom matically tries to pair with the heaadset. 6. If autom matic pairing faills, enter the pass code supplied with your headset. The pairing and connection status is displaayed below the hands‐freee headset or caar kit name in the Bluetooth devices section. When the Bluetooth head dset or car kit is connected to your phone, the t Bluetooth con nnected icon is displayeed in the status bar. Depending on the type of headset orr car kit you havee connected, you u can then start using the headset or car kitt to listen to mussic and/or make and receive phone calls. Reconnectting a headset or car kit When you u have paired a headset with yo our phone, you should be able to reconnecct it automaticallly by turning on Bluetooth on your phone, and a then turning on the headset. 81 However, sometimes you will need to reconnect manually, for example if you have been using your headset with another Bluetooth device. 1. Press HOME > MENU>Applications>Settings > Wireless& networks >Bluetooth. 2. If Bluetooth is not switched on, tap the Bluetooth check box to switch it on. 3. Make sure that the headset is discoverable. 4. Tap the headset's name in the Bluetooth devices section. 5. If prompted to enter a password, try 0000 or 1234, or consult the headset/car kit documentation to find the password. If you still cannot reconnect to the headset or car kit, follow the instructions in "Un‐pairing from a Bluetooth device" in this chapter, and then follow the instructions under "Connecting a Bluetooth headset or car kit" above. Disconnecting or unpairing from a Bluetooth device Disconnecting a Bluetooth device 1. Unpairing from a Bluetooth device 82 You can make your phone forget its pairing connection with another Bluetooth device. To connect to the other device again, you may need to enter or confirm a password again. 1. Press HOME > MENU>Applications>Settings > Wireless & networks > Bluetooth settings. 2. In the Bluetooth devices section, press and hold the device to unpair. 3. Tap Unpair. Sending and receiving information using Bluetooth You can use Bluetooth to transfer information between your phone and another Bluetooth‐ enabled device such as a phone or notebook computer. The first time you transfer information between your phone and another device, you need to enter or confirm a security password. After that, your phone and the other device are paired, and you will not need to exchange password to transfer information in the future. Sending information from your phone to another device You can send the following types of information, depending on the device you are sending to: Images and videos Calendar events Contacts Audio files 83 1. In the Caleendar's Day view w, Agenda view, or Week viiew, press and ho old the event. Contact. On O the People screeen's All tab , preess and hold the contact, an nd then tap Send contact as vCard d. Tap the down arrow icon n, and then selecct Bluetooth from m the displayed list. 4. If you are prompted to turn on Bluetooth h, tap Yes. 5. Tap thee name of the receiving device. 6. If prom mpted, accept th he connection on the receiving device, and d enter the samee password on both your phone and the other device, or o confirm the auto‐generated password. 7. On the receiving device, accept the file. 84 The location where the information is saved depends on the type of information and the receiving device. If you send another file type to a Windows computer, it is normally saved in the Bluetooth Exchange folder within your personal document folders. On Windows XP, the path may be: C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\Bluetooth Exchange On Windows Vista, the path may be: C:\Users\[your username]\Documents If you send a file to another device, the saved location may depend on the file type. For example, if you send an image file to another mobile phone, it may be saved in a folder named "Images". Receiving information from another device Your device is capable of receiving a wide variety of file types with Bluetooth, including photos, music tracks, and documents such as PDFs. To receive files from another device, you need to have an SD card installed in your phone. 1. Press HOME > MENU>Applications> Settings > Wireless & networks > Bluetooth settings. 2. If Bluetooth is not switched on, tap the Bluetooth check box to switch it on. 3. Tap the Discoverable check box. 85 4. On the sending device, send one or more files to your phone. Refer to the device's documentation for instructions on sending information over Bluetooth. 5. If prompted, enter the same password on both your phone and the other device, or confirm the auto‐ generated password. A Bluetooth authorization request is displayed on your phone. 6. If you want to automatically receive files from the sending device in future, select the Always trust device check box. 7. Tap OK. 8. When your phone receives a file transfer request notification, slide down the notifications panel, and then tap Accept. 9. When a file is transferred, a notification is displayed. To open the file immediately, slide down the notifications panel, and then tap the relevant notification. When you open a received file, what happens next depends on the file type: Media files and documents are usually opened directly in a compatible application. For example, if you open a music track, it starts playing in the Music application. Do not turn your phone on or off when the phone is close to your ear. Troubleshooting 1.Unable to switch on: Does the battery have power? Is the battery placed correctly 2.SIM failed:The SIM card is dirty. Clean it. Reinstall the SIM card. The SIM card is damaged. Replace it. 3.Poor signals:Check the signal strength icon on the screen. If the icon contains 4 bars, it indicates the signal is the strongest; if below 1 bars, it indicates the signal is very poor. 4. Unable to dial out:Maybe you have set Hide My Caller ID but your network operator does not provide this service for you. Strong interference exists around you. Maybe you 88 have activated the call restriction function. Maybe you have activated Line 2 but your network operator does not provide this service for you. 5.Unable to charge the battery : The battery may discharge too much; so it cannot be charged until it is connected for certain time. Its performance has worsened. 6. Unable to register to the network:Too weak signals or strong interference.SIM card installed properly? Bad contact or SIM card damaged? If the SIM card is broken, please contact the network operator to replace it. 7.Photos taken are too dark:Check if the too low photo brightness is set. Check if ambient ray is too dark. 8.Photos taken are too unclear:Check if the object taken is moving. Check if the mobile phone shivers slightly while you press shutter. 9.Photos taken is distorted:The object taken may be too close to camera lens. 10.Unable to access service menus:Maybe the SIM card does not support service function. 11.Only part of the photo set as standby photo can be seen: The size of the photo may be too big.
