If you move your set-top box between locations at different temperatures, allow it to reach room temperature before you apply power to it.OverloadingDo not overload wall AC outlets, extension cords or other power outlets as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.To avoid possible damage to your set-top box or to a connected TV or component, all AC power cords must be plugged into properly wired outlets. See also item 13 in the Important Safety Instructions.Ambient temperatureThe operating temperature range of your set-top box is 32-104°F. If the ambient temperature around your set-top box falls outside this range, you must correct this in order for your set-top box to work correctly and safely. For example, if the temperature is too high, make sure there is sufficient ventilation (see below) and that your set-top box is not directly on top of or underneath other equipment.VentilationSlots and openings in the casing of your set-top box are provided for ventilation, to ensure reliable operation of your set-top box and to protect it from overheating.• Never block the ventilation openings by placing your set-top box on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. Quick stops, excessive force and uneven surfaces may cause the combination of set-top box and cart to overturn. Your set-top box may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult and serious damage to your set-top box. Your set-top box must therefore be installed near to the wall AC outlet, which should be easily accessible.The cable input is designed for connection to a cable network only. You must not connect any other equipment, such as a VCR, to this input.Possible setupsIn order for you to view programs broadcast in high-definition, your set-top box must be connected to a suitable HDTV or computer monitor.Your equipment should have been connected up by your installer. However, if you need to disconnect and reconnect your equipment, read page 8.The setups shown on page 8 make efficient use of the connectors on your set-top box. However, depending on your other equipment and the connectors on it, the person who installed your system may have chosen to connect things differently.Room 1 shows a typical media-server setup, with a media server connected to a high-definition TV via an HDMI cable. Rooms 2, 3, and 4 show three different setups for your IPW9001 set-top. For each IPW9001 set-top, choose the setup that best matches the equipment you have.Room 2: HDTV using an HDMI connectionThis setup uses an HDMI connector to connect to the HDTV. This displays the highest quality picture on the HDTV and also means there will be no picture degradation on any copy-protected programs (provided the link remains secure – see below).Room 3: HDTV using component video and digital audio connectionsThis setup uses a component video connection to connect to the HDTV. This displays a high definition picture on your HDTV. To hear audio, there must also be a connection from your set-top’s DIGITAL AUDIO connector to your HDTV (or optional home theater).Room 4: SDTV using composite video and audio connectionsThis setup uses a composite video and audio (AV) connection to connect to an standard-definition TV. An optional RF connection is also shown. Note that some cable service providers may not enable the RF connection and/or other features of your set-top box. The functionality depends on your service provider.CONNECTING THE EQUIPMENTNOTECopy protection via an HDMI secure linkThe HDMI link between your set-top box and your HDTV should be a secure link. When your set-top box is attached via an HDMI cable to an HDCP-compliant (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) HDTV, the HDTV and set-top box negotiate a secure link, which allows your set-top box to transmit full resolution video (picture) to your HDTV.Not all HDTVs support HDCP. If your set-top box is connected to an HDTV that does not support it, the HDMI output is then disabled, so no picture is transmitted from this connector.

Connecting the power supply unit to your set-top boxBefore you insert the power supply unit into the wall AC outlet, connect the 5 volt DC cord from the power supply unit to the socket labeled “+5.0V DC IN 3A MAX. POWER” on your set-top box’s rear panel.Connecting equipment to the wall AC outletsConnect your set-top box’s power supply unit, and the plugs on the power cords from your TV, DVD player, and any other equipment, into wall AC outlets. If these outlets have switches, switch them ON.Turning your set-top box on and offAfter you have connected your set-top box’s power supply unit to the wall AC outlet (and switched this outlet ON, if it has a switch), the Power light around the Power button should light up red, to show that your set-top box is in standby. Press the Power button on your set-top box’s front panel to turn it on. The Power light around the Power button should light up blue, to show that your set-top box is on.To turn your set-top box on or off at any time, press the Power button on the front panel.Never turn off your set-top box by simply disconnecting it from the power supply. If you need to disconnect your set-top box, first turn it off by pressing the Power button on the front panel.Lightning stormsDisconnect your set-top box’s power cord during lightning storms. A lightning storm may affect your set-top box, if it is on during the storm. It may appear that it has stopped working, but you can easily restore its operation as follows:Unplug your set-top box’s power supply unit from the wall AC outlet. Then plug this power supply unit in again at the wall AC outlet (and, if there is a switch by this outlet, switch it to its ON position).Front panelYour cable TV service-provider determines the digital channels, services, and screen information that you see on your TV when you use your set-top box and its remote control.Consult the information supplied by your cable service-provider for details on how to make the most of the digital cable services. Also read the operating instructions that are supplied with your remote control. Power button To turn your set-top box on/off.Power light Lights blue when your set-top box is on and lights red when your set-top box is in standby. Remote light Lights when you press a button on your remote control. Record light Lights when a recording is being made.Data light Lights when a message has been received.
10Mi3 (IPW9001) USER GUIDE (501-2C14501)OPTIONAL WIFI ADAPTERRegulatory information for WiFiNOTEUsers should be advised that high-power radars are allocated as primary users (i.e. priority users) of the bands 5250-5350 MHz and 5470-5725 MHz and that these radars could cause interference and/or damage to the LE-LAN device.The device for operation in the band 5150-5250 MHz is only for indoor use to reduce the potential for harmful interference to co-channel mobile satellite systems. Having a WiFi adapter fittedYour set-top box has been designed to work with an 802.11ac 5 GHz WiFi adapter. Contact your service provider about availability and installation. Your home must have a 5 GHz wireless router or access point that supports Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) so that the adapter can correctly associate with your wireless network.If you wish to have this optional adapter, it may have been fitted in advance. Alternatively, you can send your set-top box to a repair/service center for a WiFi adapter to be professionally fitted.Starting the WiFi connectionConsult the instructions for your wireless router or access point to find out what you need to do to initiate a WPS WiFi connection. When you have activated the WPS system on your router or access point, press the button on the top of your WiFi adapter until the light around this button flashes green. This automatically connects your adapter to your wireless network using WPS. When the WiFi connection is established, the light will be steady green.Note: WPS will remain active for only a limited time to allow this pairing process; please consult the instructions for your wireless router or access point for information on the length of this limited time.Disconnecting your WiFi adapterYou should not need to disconnect your WiFi adapter unless there is a problem with it and you need to seek advice. In that case you need to see the information on the label that is on your adapter.WARNING: Before you attempt to disconnect your adapter, switch off your set-top box by pressing the Power button on the front panel. Then disconnect your power supply unit from the wall AC outlet To remove your WiFi adapter from your set-top box you need a Philips (cross-head) screwdriver of a suitable size.Unscrew the Philips-head screw on the end of your WiFi adapter and gently pull the adapter away from your set-top box.The label is on the underside of your WiFi adapter.WiFi adapter This cover is removed when the adapter is fitted. Then disconnect your power supply unit from the wall AC outlet To reconnect your WiFi adapter, slide it into position, pushing gently but firmly to engage the USB connector on your adapter with the USB port on your set-top box. Re-insert the Philips-head screw (with its washer) and tighten the screw using a suitable Philips screwdriver.Re-apply power to your set-top box and then re-establish the WiFi connection using WPS, as described on the preceding page.OPTIONAL WIFI ADAPTER (cont.)

Removing the coverUse a torx screwdriver of a suitable size to remove the screw from the end of the cover. Slide the cover away from the set-top box.Inserting the WiFi adapterSlide the adapter into position, pushing gently but firmly to engage the USB connector on the adapter with the USB port on the set-top box.A Philips-head screw, with its washer, is supplied with the adapter (attached to the adhesive on the bubble-wrap that protects the adapter).Insert the Philips-head screw, with its washer, into the end of the adapter and tighten it up using a Philips screwdriver.
