Give particular attention to all safety precautions. Retain the instructions for future reference. • This device must be installed and used in strict accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, as described in the user documentation that is included with the device. • Comply with all warning and caution statements in the instructions. Observe all warning and caution symbols that are affixed to this device. • To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this device to rain or moisture. The device must not be exposed to dripping or splashing. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the device. • This device was qualified under test conditions that included the use of the supplied cables between system components. To ensure regulatory and safety compliance, use only the provided power and interface cables and install them properly.  • Different types of cord sets may be used for connections to the main POWER supply circuit. Use only a main line cord that complies with all applicable device safety requirements of the country of use. • Installation of this device must be in accordance with national wiring codes and conform to local regulations. • Operate this device only from the type of power source indicated on the device’s marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your home, consult your dealer or local power company. • Do not overload outlets or extension cords, as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. Overloaded AC outlets, extension cords, frayed power cords, damaged or cracked wire insulation, and broken plugs are dangerous. They may result in a shock or fire hazard. • Route power supply cords so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them. Pay particular attention to cords where they are attached to plugs and convenience receptacles, and examine the point where they exit from the device. • Place this device in a location that is close enough to an electrical outlet to accommodate the length of the power cord. • Place the device to allow for easy access when disconnecting the power cord of the device from the AC wall outlet. • Do not connect the plug into an extension cord, receptacle, or other outlet unless the plug can be fully inserted with no part of the blades exposed. • Place this device on a stable surface. • Avoid damaging the cable modem with static by touching the coaxial cable when it is attached to the earth-grounded coaxial cable-TV wall outlet. • Always first touch the coaxial cable connector on the cable modem when disconnecting or reconnecting the Ethernet cable from the cable modem or user’s PC. • It is recommended that the customer install an AC surge protector in the AC outlet to which this device is connected. This is to avoid damaging the device by local lightning strikes and other electrical surges. • Postpone installation until there is no risk of thunderstorm or lightning activity in the area. • Do not use this product near water: for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool. • Do not cover the device or block the airflow to the device with any other objects. Keep the device away from excessive heat and humidity and keep the device free from vibration and dust. i DRAFT

Never use cleaning fluid or similar chemicals. Do not spray cleaners directly on the device or use forced air to remove dust. • For added protection, unplug the device from the wall outlet and disconnect the cables to avoid damage to this device due to lightning and power surges. • Upon completion of any service or repairs to this device, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the device is in safe operating condition. • Do not open the device. Do not perform any servicing other than that contained in the installation and troubleshooting instructions. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. • This device should not be used in an environment that exceeds 104º F (40º C).  SAVE THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS  Note to CATV System Installer — This reminder is provided to call the CATV system installer’s attention to Article 820.93 and 820.100 of the National Electric Code, which provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the Coaxial cable shield shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical. Getting Started B  SVG7782 Wireless Voice Cable Modem Gateway • User Guide 1 591429-001-a This document is uncontrolled pending incorporation in a Motorola CMS    Getting Started Introduction The Motorola SURFboard® SVG7782 DOCSIS® 3.0 Wireless Voice Cable Modem Gateway is a combination wireless voice cable modem and router with MoCA (Multimedia over Coax) device that provides wireless high-speed data and multimedia service access on your home network. With built-in MoCA technology, the SVG7782 also provides high-speed Internet access to multiple MoCA-enabled devices using the existing coaxial cable connection in your home. The SVG7782 includes a Wi-Fi Pairing option for quick and easy connections for your wireless devices. This guide provides instructions for installing and configuring the SVG7782 gateway, setting up a secure wireless network connection, and managing your gateway and network configurations. In the Box Before installing your new wireless gateway, check that the following items are included in the box with the gateway. It contains specific gateway ID information that may be needed when contacting your service provider.  To receive Internet access, you may have to provide the MAC address (HFC MAC ID) and serial number (S/N) listed on the gateway label to your Internet service provider. Do not route the Ethernet cable outside of the building. Exposure of the cables to lightning could create a safety hazard and damage the product. Connecting to Your Computer Before installing the gateway:  • Check with your service provider to ensure high-speed Internet service is available in your area. A high-speed Internet connection provided by an Internet service provider is needed to set up a wireless network.  • Choose a central location in your home where your computer and gateway are preferably near existing cable and electrical wall outlets.  • Make sure your computer is powered OFF. Note: The following procedure steps you through the wired Ethernet connection process to make sure the gateway is properly connected and your network access is working.                Figure 4 – SVG7782 Connection Diagram 1. Check that a coaxial cable is connected to a cable wall outlet or RF splitter. 2. Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the Cable connector on the gateway.  Hand-tighten the connectors to avoid damaging them. 3. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your computer.  5. Plug the telephone cord of a single or two-line telephone into the Tel 1 port on the gateway.  Note: For two-line telephones, use the Tel 1 port. 6. Plug the other end of the telephone cord into the telephone. Note: You must contact a VoIP service provider to activate the telephone service. 7. For a second telephone, plug the telephone cord of a single-line telephone into the Tel 2 port on the gateway. 8. Plug the power cord into the Power port on the gateway. 9. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet. This automatically powers ON the gateway. Note: The first time you plug in the gateway, allow from 5 to 30 minutes for the gateway to scan and connect to the appropriate communications channels. Testing the Gateway Connections Perform the following gateway connectivity test to verify that all the components were connected properly: 1. Power ON your computer and then log on.  2. Check that the POWER, RECEIVE, and SEND front panel LEDs on the gateway first FLASH in sequential order and then light SOLID. See Front Panel for additional LED status information. If an LED did not light SOLID, contact your service provider for assistance. 3. Contact your service provider to activate (provision) the gateway. Note: Your service provider may allow for automatic activation which will automatically launch a special website when you open a web browser.  4. Once your gateway is provisioned, open a web browser on your computer, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari.  5. Type a valid URL (for example, www.motorola.com) in the address bar and then click or press Enter.  If the web page did not open, contact your service provider for assistance or proceed to Connecting the Gateway to the Internet to manually set up the network options on your computer. Setting Up an Internet Connection  IMPORTANT! Your computer may already be configured to automatically connect to the Internet. If so, do not change the network options before contacting your service provider for assistance.   If you cannot access the Internet after completing the gateway installation, you may have to manually set up your computer to connect to the Internet. To do this, you will have to enable the network options on your computer to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS server address. IP Flood Detection detects and blocks packet floods originating on both the LAN and WAN.  You can block Java Applets, Cookies, ActiveX controls, popup windows, and Proxies. DMZ host lets you specify the default recipient of WAN traffic that NAT is unable to translate to a known local computer.  You can configure one computer to be the DMZ host. This setting is generally used for computers using problem applications that use random port numbers and do not function correctly with specific port triggers or the port forwarding setups. If you set up a computer as a DMZ Host, set this back to zero when you are finished with the needed application, since this computer will be effectively exposed to the public Internet, though still protected from Denial of Service (DoS) attacks via the Firewall. For example, you can set up a web server on a DMZ computer to enable outside users to access your website without exposing confidential data on your network. A DMZ is also useful to play interactive games that may have a problem running through a firewall. You can leave a computer used for gaming only exposed to the Internet while protecting the rest of your network.  To open the DMZ Host page: 1. Click Advanced on the SVG7782 Menu Options bar. 2. You can use the backup file to restore your custom configuration settings in the event that you made changes that you no longer want. Once the file has been located, click Restore to restore the settings. Note that once the settings are restored, the device will reboot.
