Chapter 2
Product Overview
The XBB1-A Battery Backup Device is a backup battery unit that is capable of providing
secondary DC voltage to a TG3482 Telephony Gateway through the use of an internal
rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The battery can provide at least eight hours of on-hook
backup time to the TG3482.
The XBB1-A charges its internal battery by using DC power from the connected TG3482. In
addition, the XBB1-A will notify you if any significant events occur (for example, if the battery
is removed or is no longer operational).

Installing the XBB1-A Battery Backup
Device
Your TG3482 Telephony Gateway may be shipped with a standard power cable, or it may be
shipped with a XBB1-A Battery Backup Device.
If Your TG3482 Was Shipped With a Standard Power Cable
If your TG3482 Telephony Gateway was shipped with a standard power cable, follow these
steps to install the XBB1-A Battery Backup Device:
1. Disconnect the standard power cable from the power cord connector on the back of the
TG3482.

2. Insert the custom end of the standard power cable into the appropriate connector on
the XBB1-A's internal battery. The custom end of the cable looks like the following photo
and is designed to fit either into either the power cord connector on the back of the
TG3482 or into the XBB1-A's internal battery.
3. Insert the custom end of the XBB1-A into the power cord connector on the back of the
TG3482.
4. Insert the polarized AC plug into a standard power outlet.
5. Double-check that the AC power cord is securely connected to the body of the battery
unit.
As long as all of the connections for the XBB1-A are securely made, the XBB1-A will provide
power to your TG3482, and the battery unit will charge.
If the power supply is interrupted after the battery is fully charged, then the battery will
provide DC power to the TG3482. Once AC power is restored, the battery unit will begin to
charge again.
If Your TG3482 Was Shipped With a XBB1-A Battery Backup
Device
If your TG3482 Telephony Gateway was shipped with a XBB1-A Battery Backup Device,
follow these steps to install the XBB1-A Battery Backup Device:
