45EASY STEPS TO OPERATE YOUR ANGELCARE®MONITORNote:• Test your Angelcare®Monitor BEFORE first-time use and then on a periodic basis.•When monitor is in use, DO NOT use crib mobile or other crib accessories that produce vibrations. Alarm will not sound as monitor isstill detecting movement.•The Angelcare®Monitor is perfectly safe. The Sensor Pad and its cord is entirely passive. They carry no electrical current and do notradiate any form of energy. The Nursery Unit emits only very low power radio signals through its antenna. These signals do not presentasafety hazard.• Your monitor can be used in any crib or sleeping area (that has no motion or vibration) designed to safely hold a baby.• To monitor twins, you need two AC301 Movement & Sound Monitors or one AC301 Movement & Sound Monitor and one AC300 Movement onlymonitor. You should have one nursery unit on Movement function and the other nursery unit on Sound/Movement/Tic or Sound/Movement. You can use only one parent unit on the same channel. The sound monitor of one AC301 is sufficient to monitor both babies in the same room. Donot use the Angelcare®to monitor movement of two babies in one crib or bassinet.STEP 1. SENSOR PADPosition Sensor Pad as illustrated (Figures 1 and 2). Connect the long Sensor Pad cord to the Nursery Unit (Figure 4). The printed sideof Sensor Pad MUST face up. DO NOT tuck thick bedding under the edges of the mattress. The Sensor Pad must rest on a COMPLETELY FLAT AND RIGID SURFACE. Place a piece of 6 mm (1/4”) plywood to cover the fullsize of the crib base. Make sure the sensor pad’s cord passes underneath the mattress as shown in figure 1.STEP 2. NURSERY UNIT (TRANSMITTER)• Insert 4 AAA batteries into Nursery Unit (for battery backup in case of power failure).• Connect Sensor Pad to Nursery Unit (Figures 4 and 6).• On the back of the Nursery Unit, select 1 of the 4 functions of how you want to monitor your baby from the Parents Unit:Movement: To use the movement only function. This does not transmit any sound to the parent unit.Sound/Movement/Tic: To hear sounds, see sound lights and hear a “Tic” sound with every movement baby makes.Sound/Movement: Tohear sounds, see sound lights function BUT without the “Tic” sound.Sound: To hear sounds and see sound lights on Parents Unit.•Connect AC adapter to Nursery Unit and plug adapter into an electrical outlet.NOTE: The sensitivity adjustment has been preset. DO NOT ADJUST UNLESS NECESSARY. If poor capture of movement (red flashinglight) or false alarm occurs, consult the Movement Sensitivity Adjustment section.STEP 3. PARENTS UNIT (RECEIVER)Model AC301: Insert 3 AAA batteries into Parents Unit. Connect AC adapter to Parents Unit and plug adapter to an electrical outlet.Model AC301-R: The pre-installed NiMh rechargeable batteries need to be charged for 15 hours continuously before first-timeuse. To charge, connect the AC adapter to the Parents Unit. Plug AC adapter to an electrical outlet (Figure 3). The batteries will chargeas long as it is connected to a powered AC adapter. The position of the switches will not effect charging. For longest battery life, recharge the Parents Unit when the orange Low Battery light flashes. Batteries need to be chargedfor 12 hours continuously.NOTE: Only the Parents Unit is rechargeable in Model AC301-R.•Adjust the volume control to the desired level.STEP 4. TO USE MONITORPlace baby in crib and switch both units ON by selecting either channel A, B or C. If reception is not clear, switch to another channel.Make sure both units are on the same channel. When removing baby from crib, switch NurseryUnit to the OFF position. If you forgetto switch OFF, a “pre-alarm Tic” will sound after 15 seconds as a reminder followed by an alarm 5 seconds later. To avoid feedback(whistling sound), keep both units at least 3 meters apart (10 feet).Note: When both units are turned ON, a“--“symbol will appear on the nurseryunit temperature display screen. It will stay ON for 20seconds. During this time the nursery unit is sending the settings to the parents unit. Once the room temperature is displayed on thenursery unit, the monitor is ready to be used.STEP 5. BATTERY MODE•When unplugging AC adapter from each unit, make sure unit is switched OFF. Otherwise, unit will revert to battery mode.•The monitor will revert to battery mode during a power failure only if batteries are inserted in both units. Insert batteries into NurseryUnit and Parents Unit for Model AC301. When orange Low Battery indicator flashes, change batteries promptly (or recharge ParentsUnit for Model AC301-R).ManAC301 angl-fra 14 july06.qxd 7/14/06 9:29 AM Page 4

If not, the light willeventually turn red and the monitor will stop working.Operating TipsMovement Sensitivity Adjustment The Sensitivity Adjustment Dial has been preset to suitmost situations. However in certain circumstances, the sensitivity may not be ideal. DO NOTincrease sensitivity unless falsealarms occurs and you have followed the advice in the Troubleshootingsection for false alarms. Make a note of the pre-set position of the dialshould you wish to return to it.The Alarm Indicator Light on the Nursery Unit will flash red and beeponce when monitor barely detects movement. This could be a result of:baby being in a very deep sleep or baby having moved away fromSensor Pad to edge of crib. If alarm does NOT sound, no adjustment ofsensitivity is required. If the alarm indicator light flashes red most of thetime with baby directly over the location of either Sensor Pad, a falsealarm may occur. If this happens, adjust the sensitivity.Toadjust sensitivity, increase dial to the next setting. Retest monitor.Channel selection for sound receptionMake sure that both units are on the same channel, either on A, BorC. If reception is not clear, switch to another channel. If interferencepersists, consult the Troubleshooting section.Green Sound LightsThe three Sound Lights allowyou to see baby’ssounds. The louder thesounds from baby, the more lights appear.Temperature displayThe NurseryUnit is equipped with room temperature display. Thetemperature is displayed in Celsius (C).Night light haloPress on the first light at the top of the Nursery Unit to activate the night light.Voice activatedThis monitor is equipped with a voice activated system. The nursery unit willbe activated and transmit sounds to the parents unit only when it capturessound.
