Keep this instruction manual in a safe place for future reference. Should the appliance be sold, transferred or moved, make sure the instruction manual accompanies the washer dryer to inform the new owner as to its operation and features. ! Read these instructions carefully: they contain vital information on installation, use and safety. Unpacking 1. Unpack the machine. 2. Check whether the washer dryer has been damaged during transport. If this is the case, do not install it and contact your retailer. Remove the transit fixings IMPORTANT: Follow these instructions to remove the TWO transit fixings. Situated one either side of the rear panel, BOTH transit bolts MUST be removed before use. ! Failure to do so may cause damage to your machine. It is important the transit bolt and spacer (see pic) come out intact. 1. Unscrew the bolt using a 13mm spanner. ! Packaging materials are not childrens toys. Levelling 1. Install the machine on a flat sturdy floor, without resting it up against walls, cabinets etc. 2. Compensate for any unevenness by tightening or loosening the adjustable front feet. When adjusting the feet, use a spirit level to check the machine stands level, from side to side and from front to back. Levelling your appliance correctly will provide it with stability and avoid any vibrations, noise and shifting during operation. If it is placed on a fitted or loose carpet, adjust the feet in such a way as to allow enough room for ventilation beneath the machine. Water connection Connecting the water inlet hose. Remember that this is a cold-fill machine and the fill hose fitted to the rear of the machine must be connected to the cold water supply. Before making the connections to the water outlet, allow the water to run freely from the cold water supply tap until it is perfectly clear. Screw the cold water fill hose onto the cold water supply tap until tight. 2. STOP when 3 threads can be seen. Turn the tap on and check for leaks: tighten if necessary. ! Make sure there are no kinks or bends in the hose. 3. Hold, slide sideways and pull to remove. ! The water pressure at the tap must be within the values indicated in the Technical details table (next page). ! If the water inlet hose is not long enough, contact a specialist store or an authorised serviceman. ! Always use new hoses. 4. For safety, insert one of the plastic covers (supplied with your machine) over the hole. ! Repeat steps 1 to 4 to remove the second transit bolt. 2 ! Check the water hose at least once a year, replace any that are cracked as worn hoses could split under water pressure. Installation Drainage connections B A A. Connect the drain hose, without kinking it, to a draining duct or a wall drain fixed at a height between 65 and 100cm from the floor. Use the curved bracket, if reqired. The first wash cycle Once the appliance has been installed and before you use it for the first time, run a wash cycle without detergent and no laundry, setting the 90˚C programme without a pre-wash cycle. Technical Details Models B. Alternatively, place it over the edge of a basin, sink or tub, fastening the hose supplied to the tap. A1600WD, A1400SWD, A1400WD, A1200WD Dimensions 59.5cm wide 85cm high 60cm deep ! The free end of the hose should not be under water. Capacity from 1 to 6kg ! We advise against the use of hose extensions. In case of absolute need, the extension must have the same diameter as the original hose and must not exceed 150cm in length. Electric voltage 220/240 Volts 50Hz connections maximum absorbed power: 1700W-2100W Electrical connections Before plugging the appliance into the mains socket, make sure that: ● the socket is earthed and in compliance with the applicable law. ● the socket is able to sustain the appliances maximum power load indicated in the Technical Details table (on the right). ● the supply voltage is included within the values indicated in the Technical Details table (on the right). ● the socket is compatible with the machines plug. If this is not the case, replace the socket or the plug. ! The machine should not be installed in an outdoor environment, not even when the area is sheltered, because it may be very dangerous to leave it exposed to rain and thunderstorms. ! When the machine is installed, the mains socket must be within easy reach and should be connected to a suitable electrical supply. ! Do not use extensions or multiple sockets. ! The power supply cable must never be bent or dangerously compressed. ! The power supply cable must only be replaced by an authorised serviceman. ! The company denies all liability if and when these norms are not respected. ON/OFF button: To turn the machine on and off. PROGRESS INDICATOR LEDs: To find out which cycle phase is under way. The corresponding LED for the cycle in progress is illuminated. DRYING knob: A1200 - To set the drying time A1400 - To set the drying time and single level auto dry. A1600 - To set the drying time and 3 level auto drying (see Starting and Programmes). FUNCTION buttons: To select the functions available (see Starting and Programmes). When a function is selected, the corresponding LED is illuminated. 4 START/RESET button: To start the programme or cancel any incorrect settings. ON-OFF/DOOR LOCK LED: To find out whether the machine is on and if the appliance door can be opened. PROGRAMME knob: To select the programme you require. The retractable control knob: press the centre of the knob for it to pop out. The knob stays still during the cycle. Washer Dryer Description LEDs PROGRESS INDICATOR LEDs: These light up to indicate the progress of the selected programme. When the programme is started the light corresponding to the first cycle is lit and as the programme progresses, successive lights will come on until the programme finishes. Additional feature - Models A1600WD, A1400SWD and A1400WD only: Your machine has a delay timer function and there are additional markings alongside the LEDs. DELAY TIMER set: If the Delay Timer function has been enabled (see Starting and Programmes), once you start the programme the LED corresponding to the delay set will begin to flash. FUNCTION buttons / LEDs: When a function is selected, the corresponding LED is illuminated. ● If the function selected is incompatible with the programme set, the button will flash and the function will not be enabled. ● If you set a function that is incompatible with another function you selected previously, only the last one selected will be enabled. ON-OFF/DOOR LOCK LED: If this LED is on, the appliance door is locked to prevent it from being opened accidentally; to avoid any damage. Wait for the LED to flash before you open the appliance door. ! The rapid flashing of the ON-OFF/DOOR LOCK LED together with the flashing of at least one other LED indicates there is an error. Call for Technical Assistance. As time passes, the remaining delay will be displayed and the corresponding LED will flash: Once the set delay is complete, the flashing LED will turn off and the selected programme will start. Automatic Rinse hold ● ● Models A1600 and A1400 Note: If you have selected a synthetic wash programme, the machine will automatically stop in the final rinse and the LED will flash, press the START/RESET button to continue to the end of the programme (wash programme only). If drying option has been selected the machine will complete the programme without any interruption. Model A1200 Note: If you have selected a synthetic wash programme together with the reduced creases option, the machine will automatically stop in the final rinse and the LED will flash, press the START/RESET button to continue to the end of the programme (wash or wash and dry programme). 5 GB Starting and Programmes GB Briefly: starting a programme 1. Switch the machine on by pressing the ON/OFF button , for at least 2 seconds. All the LEDs will light up for a few seconds and the ON-OFF / DOOR LOCK LED will begin to flash. 2. Load your laundry into the machine and shut the door. 3. Set the PROGRAMME knob to the programme required. 4. Set the wash temperature (see Personalisation). 5. Set the spin speed (see Personalisation). 6. Add the detergent and any fabric softener (see Detergents and Laundry). 7. Start the programme by pressing the START/RESET button for at least 2 seconds. 8. When the programme is finished, the ON-OFF / DOOR LOCK LED will flash to indicate that the appliance door can now be opened. Take out your laundry and leave the appliance door ajar to allow the drum to dry thoroughly. Turn the machine off by pressing the ON/OFF button , the ON/OFF / DOOR LOCKED LED will go out. PARTIAL PROGRAMMES Draining 2 Draining Notes For the anti-crease function: see Easy Iron (next page). The information contained in the table is purely indicative. All cycle length times are approximate. Special programmes Daily 30' (programme 8 for Synthetics) is designed to wash lightly soiled garments in a short amount of time: it only lasts 36 minutes and allows you to save on both time and energy. By setting this programme (8 at 36˚C), you can wash different fabrics together (except for woollen and silk items), with a maximum load of 3kg. ● We recommend the use of liquid detergent. 6 Personalisation Setting the temperature Functions Turn the TEMPERATURE knob to set the wash temperature (see Programme table). The temperature can be lowered, or even set to cold wash . To enable a function: 1. press the button corresponding to the desired function, according to the table below. 2. the function is enabled when the corresponding LED is illuminated. ● Setting the spin speed GB The rapid flashing of the button indicates that the corresponding function cannot be selected for the programme set. Models A1600 and A1400 only: Use the ‘Reduced Spin’ Option button, to reduce programme spin speed to 1000rpm (cottons programmes). The maximum spin speeds for each programme are as follows: Programmes Maximum spin speed Cottons 1600rpm - Model A1600WD 1400rpm - Models A1400SWD and A1400WD 1200rpm - Model A1200WD Synthetics 800rpm Wool 600rpm Silk no Function Delay Timer Effect Comments Enabled with programmes Delays the start of the wash by up to 9 hours. Press the button repeatedly until the LED corresponding to the desired delay is turned on. The fifth time the button is pressed, the function will be disabled. N.B.: Once you have pressed the START/RESET button, the delay can only be decreased if you wish to modify it. All programmes (Models A1600WD, A1400SWD and A1400WD only) Allows for an impeccable wash, visibly whiter than a standard Class Super Wash A wash. Easy Iron This function is incompatible with the RAPID function. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7. This option reduces the amount of creasing on fabrics, making them easy to iron. When this function is set, programmes 6, 7, 11 and Delicate rinse will end with the laundry left to soak (Anti-crease) and the Rinse cycle phase LED will flash. - to conclude the cycle, press the START/RESET button. - to run the draining cycle alone, set the knob to the relative symbol and press the START/RESET button. All programmes except for 1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 10 and Draining (Model A1200WD only) Cuts the duration of the wash cycle by 30%. This function is incompatible with the SUPER WASH function. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7. Rapid Reduces the final spin speed to Reduced Spin 1000rpm Adds one extra rinse cycle. Reduces the final spin speed on cotton programmes. Remember - you will use more water than with a standard cycle. 1, 2, 3, 4 (Models A1600WD, A1400SWD and A1400WD only) 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7. (Model A1200WD only) Extra Rinse 7 Drying Section GB Drying programmes ! If your machine is not permanently plumbed in, turn on the cold water supply and hook the drain hose over the sink to enable the condensing action to work. Independent drying programme: 1. Remove the wet laundry and in drum dosing ball (if used) until the correct ‘Drying Weight Load’ (see table below) is left in the drum. Close the door until it clicks shut. 2. Select a drying programme (see Programmes): - 5 High Heat for cottons or - 9 Low Heat for synthetics 3. Set the required dry time or sensor dry option. (Sensor dry option only available on Models A1600 and A1400). 4. When all selections have been made press the START/RESET button. ! The dryer is intended for use only where water is used for the cleaning process. ! Be careful not to touch the drum at the top as this area does get hot during drying. ! On no account should liquid fabric conditioner be added during the drying process. ! Misuse of the dryer may create a fire hazard. Drying heat: Programme Heat Setting Fabric 5 High Cottons 5kg (Model A1600) 4kg (Models A1400 and A1200) 9 Low Synthetics 3kg Timed dry: Select from the following times: A1600 0 - 30 - 60 - 90 - 120 minutes A1400 0 - 30 - 60 - 90 - 120 - 150 - 180 minutes A1200 0 - 30 - 60 - 90 - 120 - 140 - 160 - 180 minutes Sensor dry (Models A1600 and A1400 only): A1600 Select sensor dry level from: ‘Cupboard dry’ ‘Hanger dry’ ‘Iron dry’ A1400 Select sensor dry level, ‘Hanger dry’. 8 Maximum Drying Weight load Drying Section A typical wash and dry programme: 1. Sort your laundry into groups with the same wash and dry care labels. 2. Load the machine, making sure that items are not trapped in the door. Close the door by pushing it until it clicks. 3. Add detergent and fabric conditioner (if required), to the dispenser drawer. Refer to the detergent manufacturer’s dosage instructions. 4. Switch the machine on by pressing the ON/OFF button. The ON-OFF/DOOR LOCKED LED will illuminate. 5. Select desired wash programme (see Programmes). 6. Select any optional wash feature(s) that you may require by pressing the appropriate button(s) (see Function chart). The corresponding LED will illuminate to show what you have chosen. Drycare tips Items not suitable for tumble drying: ● ● ● ● ● ● Garments with the ITCL code . Woollens. Large, bulky items eg. quilts, bedspreads, pillows etc... expand when dry, preventing air flow through the appliance. Items containing plastic film, foam rubber or rubber like materials eg. pillows, cushions, PVC rainwear or inflammable articles which contain inflammable substances eg. towels contaminated with hair lacquer. Fibreglass (eg. some types of curtains). Items which have been dry cleaned. 7. Select either the ‘Timed’ or ‘Sensor’ dry option you require (Sensor dry is only available on Models A1600 and A1400). 8. Press the START/RESET button to begin the programme. - During the programme status lights will illuminate to indicate what stage in the cyle the programme has reached. 9. When the programme has finished the ON-OFF / DOOR LOCK LED will flash to indicate that the appliance door can now be opened. Take out your laundry and leave the appliance door ajar to allow the drum to dry thoroughly. Turn the machine off by pressing the ON/OFF button , the ON/OFF / DOOR LOCKED LED will go out. GB Important information: ! A 20 minute ‘cool tumble’ is included at the end of drying, allowing fabrics to cool down, minimising creasing. ! A spin cycle may be carried out during drying if you have set a cotton programme. ! The sensor dry function can be used on either the cotton (HIGH heat) or synthetic (LOW heat) programmes (Models A1600 and A1400 only). ! Your machine is fitted with a revolutionary selfclean filter, which will flush with water during drying. 9 Detergents and Laundry GB How much does your laundry weigh? Detergent dispenser ! Do not put any items into the drawer, other than detergents designed to be released from the drawer, as they may cause damage or blockage. 1. Pre-wash detergent compartment. Maximum 200ml powder or 100ml liquid 1 2. Main wash detergent compartment. Maximum 400ml powder or 200ml liquid 3. Fabric conditioner compartment. Maximum 120ml Dispensing powder detergent To achieve the best wash results the maunfacturer’s recommended amount of detergent should be measured and added to the main detergent compartment. Dispensing liquid detergent We recommend the use of a detergent dosing ball, as provided by your detergent manufacturer. Adding fabric conditioner Pour the recommended amount of fabric conditioner into the compartment. Do not exceed the maximum fill line. Maximum load size ● ● Divide your laundry according to: - the type of fabric/the symbol on the label. - the colours: separate coloured garments from whites. Empty all pockets and check for loose buttons. Do not exceed the weight limits stated below, which refer to the weight when dry: Sturdy fabrics: max 6kg Synthetic fabrics: max 3kg Delicate fabrics: max 3kg Wool: max 1.5kg ! DO NOT overload the machine as this could result in reduced performance. 10 sheet 400-500g pillow case 150-200g tablecloth 400-500g bathrobe 900-1200g towel 150-250g Special items 2 3 ● 1 1 1 1 1 Curtains: fold curtains and place them in a pillow case or mesh bag. Wash them separately without exceeding half the appliance load. Use programme 11 which excludes the spin cycle automatically. Quilted coats and windbreakers: if they are padded with goose or duck down, they can be machinewashed. Turn the garments inside out and load a maximum of 2-3kg, repeating the rinse cycle once or twice, using the delicate spin cycle. Trainers: remove any mud. They can be washed together with jeans and other tough garments, but not with whites. Wool: for best results, use a specific detergent, taking care not to exceed a load of 1.5kg. Precautions and advice ! The machine was designed and built in compliance with the applicable international safety regulations. The following information is provided for your safety and should consequently be read carefully. Saving on detergent, water, energy and time ● ● General safety ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● This machine should only be used by adults and in accordance with the instructions provided in this manual. Do not overload the machine. In addition to reducing the quality of the wash, this may also damage your laundry and the machine. Never touch the machine when barefoot or with wet or damp hands or feet. Do not pull on the power supply cable to unplug the appliance from the electricity socket. Pull the plug out. Do not open the machine door while the appliance is in operation. Do not open the detergent dispenser while the appliance is in operation. Do not touch the drain water as it could reach very high temperatures. Never force the machine door: this could damage the safety lock mechanism designed to prevent any accidental opening. In the event of a malfunction, do not under any circumstances touch internal parts in order to attempt repairs. Always keep children well away from the appliance while in operation. Do not let children play with the machine or tamper with the controls. The appliance door tends to get quite hot during the wash cycle. Should it have to be moved, proceed with the help of two or three people and handle it with the utmost care. Never try to do this alone, because the appliance is very heavy. Before loading your laundry into the machine, make sure the drum is empty. In the unlikely event of something not working see the Troubleshooting section. Saving energy and respecting the environment Environmentally-friendly technology If you only see a little water through your appliance door, this is because thanks to the latest Ariston technology, your machine only needs less than half the amount of water to get the best results: an objective reached to respect the environment. ● ● ● GB To avoid wasting resources, the machine should be used with a full load. A full load instead of two half loads allows you to save up to 50% on energy. The pre-wash cycle is only necessary on extremely soiled garments. Avoiding it will save on detergent, time, water and between 5 and 15% energy. Treating stains with a stain remover or leaving them to soak before washing will cut down the need to wash them at high temperatures. A programme at 60˚C instead of 90˚C or one at 40˚C instead of 60˚C will save up to 50% on energy. Use the correct quantity of detergent, depending on the water hardness, how soiled the garments are and the amount of laundry you have, to avoid wastage and to protect the environment: despite being biodegradable, detergents do contain ingredients that alter the natural balance of the environment. In addition, avoid using fabric softener as much as possible. If you use your machine between late in the afternoon and the early hours of the morning, you will help reduce the electricity board’s peak load. Disposal ● ● Disposing of the packaging material: observe local regulations, so the packaging can be re-used. Disposing of an old machine: before scrapping your appliance, cut the power supply cable and remove the appliance door. Disposal of old appliances The European Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), requires that old household electrical appliances must not be disposed of in the normal unsorted municipal waste stream. Old appliances must be collected separately in order to optimise the recovery and recycling of the materials they contain and reduce the impact on human health and the environment. The crossed out “wheeled bin” symbol on the product reminds you of your obligation, that when you dispose of the appliance it must be separately collected. Consumers should contact their local authority or retailer for information concerning the correct disposal of their old appliance. 11 Care and maintenance GB Switching off the electricity ● ● Turn off the water tap after every wash. This will limit the wear of your appliances water system and also prevent leaks. Unplug your appliance when cleaning it and during all maintenance operations. Caring for your appliance door and drum ● Always leave the appliance door ajar to prevent unpleasant odours from forming. Checking the water inlet hose Cleaning Cleaning the exterior and rubber parts Use a soft cloth soaked in lukewarm water soapy water. ! Do not use solvents or abrasives. Check the water inlet hose at least once a year. If you see any cracks, replace it immediately: during the wash cycles, high water pressure could cause a cracked hose to split open. ! Never use hoses that have already been used. Cleaning the door bowl Clean the internal surface of the door bowl regularly with a soft cloth. A build up of soap powder and water hardness residue may result in water leaking from the door. Cleaning the dispenser drawer and compartments ! Do not try to clean any part of the dispenser drawer while the machine is running. Remove the dispenser by raising it then pulling it out (see figure). It is advisable to clean the dispenser drawer regularly. Fuses Your appliance comes fitted with a plug and a 13 amp (13A) fuse. If you need to replace the fuse, use only those rated at 13 amp (13A) and ASTA approved to BS1362. To change the fuse, insert the fuse and push the fuse holder down into the locked position. Correct replacement is identified by colour coding or the marking on base of the plug. ! DO NOT use the plug unless the fuse holder is in the locked position and the top cover firmly replaced. Changing the Plug If you need to change your plug, if it does not fit your socket: isolate the machine from the mains supply. Cut off the supplied plug and safely dispose of the discarded plug. DO NOT plug into any other socket. NOTE: If you change the plug, the colour of wires in the mains lead may not match the colour of the markings which show the different terminals in the plug. You must wire it as shown below: Green and Yellow (Earth) wire to terminal marked ‘E’, symbol , or coloured green and yellow. Troubleshooting One day your machine seems not to be working. Before you call your Service Centre (see Service), go through the following troubleshooting suggestions: Problem: Possible causes / Solution: The machine won’t start? ● ● The wash cycle won’t start? ● ● ● ● ● The machine fails to fill with water? ● ● ● ● ● ● The machine continuously fills with water and drains? The machine does not drain or spin? The appliance is not fully plugged into the socket. There has been a power failure. The appliance door is not shut properly. The ON/OFF button has not been pressed, for at least 2 seconds. The START/RESET button has not been pressed for at least 2 seconds. The water tap is not turned on. A delayed start has been set, using the Delay Timer (see Start and Programmes). The water inlet hose is not connected to the tap. The hose is kinked. The water tap is not turned on. There is a water shortage. The water pressure is insufficient. The START/RESET button has not been pressed, for at least 2 seconds. The drain hose is not fitted between 65 and 100cm from the floor (see Installation). ● The free end of the hose is underwater (see Installation). ● The wall drainage system doesn’t have a breather pipe. If the problem persists even after these checks, turn off the water tap, switch the appliance off and call for assistance. If the dwelling is on one of the upper floors of a building, there may be drain trap problems causing the washing machine to load and unload water continuously. In order to avoid such an inconvenience, special anti-drain trap valves are available in shops. ● ● ● ● If the machine was unable to balance the load it will use a slow spin rather than risk machine damage; the clothes might appear wetter than expected. The drain hose is bent (see Installation). The drain duct is clogged. 13 GB Troubleshooting GB Problem: The washer dryer vibrates too much during the spin cycle? The washer dryer leaks? Possible causes / Solution: ● ● ● ● ● ● There is too much foam? ● ● The machine does not dry? ● ● ● ● The ON-OFF/DOOR LOCKED LED flashes rapidly at the same time as at least one other LED? 14 ● The transit fixings were not removed correctly (see Installation). The washer dryer is not level (see Installation). The washer dryer is closed in, between furniture cabinets and the wall (see Installation). The water inlet hose is not connected correctly (see Installation). The detergent dispenser is obstructed, clean it (see Care and Maintenance). The drain hose is not secured properly (see Installation). The detergent is not suitable for machine washing (it should bear the definition “for washing machines” or “hand and machine wash”, etc.) You used too much detergent. Is the cold water turned on at the tap? Did you select the correct heat/time setting? Was the laundry spun dry at the end of the wash programme, if not select the spin and dry option to suit the type of fabric? Is your water pressure within limits? Call for assistance because this means there is an error. Service Before calling the Service Centre: ● ● Use the troubleshooting guide to see if you can solve the problem yourself (see Troubleshooting). If not, turn off the appliance and call the Service Centre closest to you. What to tell the Service Centre: name, address and post code. ● telephone number. ● the type of problem. ● the date of purchase. ● the appliance model (Mod.). ● the serial number (S/N). This information can be found on the data label inside the door of the machine. Spare Parts GB This appliance is a complex machine.
