AttachingtheCableTVWiretoEMTA
YoumayfindtheCableTVwireoneofthefollowingways:
z ConnecteddirectlytoaTV,aCableTVconverterbox,orVCR.Thelinewillbeconnectedtothejack
withwhichshouldbelabeledeitherIN,CABLEIN,CATV,CATVIN,etc.
z Connectedtoawallmountedcableoutlet.

ActivatingtheEMTA
AfteryouinstalltheEMTAandturnitonforthefirsttime(andeachtimethemodemisreconnectedto
thepower),itgoesthroughseveralstepsbeforeitcanbeused.Eachofthesestepsisrepresentedbya
differentpatternofflashinglightsonthefrontofthemodem.
Note:Allindicatorsflashoncepriortotheinitializationsequence.
Ifallofthelightsareflashingsequentially,itmeanstheEMTAisautomaticallyupdatingitssystem
software.Pleasewaitforthelightstostopflashing.Youcannotuseyourmodemduringthistime.Do
notremovethepowersupplyorresettheEMTAduringthisprocess.
TomakesurethatyoucanaccesstheInternetsuccessfully,pleasecheckthefollowingfirst.
1. Makesuretheconnection(throughEthernet)betweentheEMTAandyourcomputerisOK.
2. MakesuretheTCP/IPprotocolissetproperly.
3. SubscribetoaCableCompany.


Thepasswordcanbeamaximumof8charactersandiscasesensitive.Inaddition,thispagecanbeused
torestorethegatewaytoitsoriginalfactorysettings.Usethiswithcaution,asallthesettingsyouhave
madewillbelost.Toperformthisreset,setRestoreFactoryDefaultstoYesandclickApply.Thishas
thesameeffectasafactoryresetusingtherearpanelresetswitch,whereyouholdontheswitchfor5
seconds,thenreleaseit.

anInternetdevice,yousendapackettoitsTCP/IPstack,anditsendsonebacktoyours.Tousetheping
Test,entertheinformationneededandpressStartTest;theResultwillbedisplayedinthelowerpartof
thewindow.PressAbortTesttostop,andClearResultstocleartheresultcontents.Note:Firewallsmay
causepingstofailbutstillprovideyouTCP/IPaccesstoselecteddevicesbehindthem.Keepthisinmind
whenpingadevicethatmaybebehindafirewall.PingismostusefultoverifyconnectivitywithPCs
whichdonothavefirewalls,suchasthePCsonyourLANside.
