98Advanced Functions Advanced Functions, cont.DASH (-) Used to enter a channel number for multiplechannels such as 2-1, 2-2, etc. A broadcaster maytransmit multiple programs on a single channel. Multipleprograms are distinguished by a unique sub-channelnumber, separated by a dash (-).SEL (SELECT) Use with numbered buttons for instantchannel selection. When you press a channel number,for example 22, the receiver awaits another button pressfor three seconds and then tunes to 22.SURF Shows the list of your Surf channels. A Surfchannel list can contain up to 50 channels. You canreturn to normal viewing by pressing the EXIT button orby pressing the SURF button again.INFO Press this button when you are watchingDirecTV® programming to display the Channel Bannerinformation and information about the current program.Press again to remove the banner, or wait 10 seconds.You can select the display mode, short or detailed,  bypressing the navigate up and down arrows. You can alsochange the audio language, when available, by pressingthe left and right navigation buttons.HELP Shows the on-screen “EZ Help” menu while youare in normal viewing, or in an on-screen menu. When you view a picture with a normal (4:3)aspect ratio in 720p or 1080i format, this button changesthe display options from Normal, to Wide, to Panorama,to Zoom1, to Zoom2, and back to Normal. Detaileddescriptions of the TV aspect ration are given in TVaspect ration section of the Preferences Menu.SIGNAL Shows the signal strength of the currentchannel. For digital over-the-air or satellite channels youmy be able to improve the signals strength by adjustingthe direction of your over-the-air antenna.SD/HD Set the output resolution of the SD (480i format)and pre-selected HD (480p, 720p, 1080i, native, hybrid-1,and hybrid-2 formats), If you want to use VCR recording,set to STD format. Note, pressing SD/HD, then theLEFT navigation button, then SEL, will always causethe receiver to output SD (480i) display format.  PressingSD/HD, then the RIGHT navigation button, then SEL,will always cause the receiver to operate in the pre-selected HD display format. I.E. the buttons will work nomatter what format had been selected.FLASHBK (Flash Back) Returns to the last channelviewed. Lets you move back and forth between the lasttwo channels viewed.CC/DATE (Closed Caption) Lets you turn closedcaption on and off. Normally other types of remotes onlypunch-through (from another Mode) on the 6 VCRbuttons, to the device programmed under the VCRMode button. This is not much use if you are using aDVD programmed under a Mode other than VCR. Thisremote punches-through to the last VCR or DVD deviceyou used. For example, if you have 3 DVD/VCR devicesprogrammed into this remote, the last one you accessedon the remote will be the one that has control of the 6VCR/DVD buttons when in any other mode.TV/VCR/INPUTWhen in TV mode the SIGNAL/INPUT button performsthe  INPUT source switch function.When in a mode that has been programmed for VCR theSIGNAL/INPUT button performs the TV/VCR antennaswitch function.When in a mode that has been programmed for Cable theSIGNAL/INPUT button performs the A.B switchfunction.When in a mode that has been programmed for SAT theSIGNAL/INPUT button performs the TV/SAT switchfunction.When in a mode that has been programmed for DVD theSIGNAL/INPUT button performs the DVD Setupfunction.TV/VCR and TV/DVD Combo unitsNote that for some TV/VCR and TV/DVD combo unitsyou might need to set up two different buttons tocontrol both parts of the combo unit.
