returnedtoBIIncorporatedforrecycling.

Compliancestatement‐ThisequipmentcomplieswithPart68oftheFCCrules.Onthe
bottomofthereceiverisalabelthatcontains,amongotherinformation,theFCCregistration
numberandringerequivalencenumber(REN)forthisequipment.Ifrequested,this
informationmustbeprovidedtothetelephonecompany.
TheRENisusedtodeterminethequantityofdeviceswhichmaybeconnectedtothe
telephoneline.ExcessiveRENsonthetelephonelinemayresultinthedevicesnotringingin
responsetoanincomingcall.Inmost,butnotallareas,thesumoftheRENSshouldnot

designedtobeconnectedtothetelephonenetworkorpremiseswiringusingacompatible
modularjackwhichisPart68compliant.
Ifthereceivercausesharmtothetelephonenetwork,thetelephonecompanywillnotifyyou
inadvancethatatemporarydiscontinuanceofservicemayberequired.Butifadvancenotice
isn’tpractical,thetelephonecompanywillnotifythecustomerassoonaspossible.Also,you
willbeadvisedofyourrighttofileacomplaintwiththeFCCifyoubelieveitisnecessary.
Thetelephonecompanymaymakechangesinitsfacilities,equipment,operations,or

twoconditions:(1)Thisdevicemaynotcauseharmfulinterference,and(2)thisdevicemust

device,pursuanttoPart15oftheFCCRules.Theselimitsaredesignedtoprovidereasonable
protectionagainstharmfulinterferenceinaresidentialinstallation.Thisequipment

Requirements for Exposure to Radio Waves
Thisequipmentincludesaradiotransmitterandreceiver.Itisdesignedandmanufactured
nottoexceedtheemissionlimitsforexposuretoradiofrequency(RF)energysetbythe
FederalCommunicationsCommissionoftheU.S.Government.Theselimitsarepartof
comprehensiveguidelinesthatestablishpermittedlevelsofRFenergyforstandardsthat
weredevelopedbyindependentscientificorganizationsthroughperiodicandthorough
evaluationofscientificstudies.Thesestandardsincludeasubstantialsafetymargindesigned
toassurethesafetyofallpersons,regardlessofageandhealth.
Electromagnetic Interference/Compatibility
Nearlyeveryelectronicdeviceissusceptibletoelectromagneticinterference(EMI)if
inadequatelyshielded,designed,orotherwiseconfiguredforelectromagneticcompatibility.
Medical Devices
Ifapersonusingthisequipmentalsousesanypersonalmedicaldevice(i.e.,pacemaker,
hearingaid,etc.),consultthemanufacturerofthepersonalmedicaldevicetodetermineifitis
adequatelyshieldedfromRFenergy.Aphysicianmaybeabletoassistinobtainingthis
information.
Operational Warnings
Therearecertainareaswhereyouwanttoavoidoperationofanyradioproduct.
Potentially Explosive Atmospheres
Turnoffanyradioproductpriortoenteringanyareawithapotentiallyexplosive
atmosphereunlessitisaradioproducttypeespeciallyqualifiedforuseas“Intrinsically
Safe”(forexample,FactoryMutual,CSA,orUL‐approved).Donotremove,install,orcharge
batteriesinsuchareas.Sparksinapotentiallyexplosiveatmospherecancauseanexplosion

thehingepinsaftereachuse.Allothersuppliesarereusableandshouldnotbediscarded.
Keepinmindthatthebatteryshouldbereplacedaftersixmonthsofcontinuoususe.

To assemble the TAD unit
1. Insertthebatteryintothebatterywell.
2. Placethebatteryhatchinsidethebatterywell.Usingascrewdriver,rotatethebattery
hatchclockwiseuntilthebatteryissecure.
3. Slidethebatterycoveroverthebatteryhatch.
4. Slidethefixedstrapintothefiber‐opticconnectionbayoppositeofthechargingport.
5. Slidetheadjustablestrapintotheotherfiber‐opticconnectionbay.
6. UsingaPhillipsscrewdriver,securethestrapsbetweentheunitcaseandthestrapclamps
withtheprovidedscrews.Placeonescrewintoeachhole,androtateeachscrew
clockwiseuntilyoufeelresistance.
7. Assemblethejointofthemaleandfemalehingesusingthejointpin.Slidethejointpin
throughthehingeloopsuntilthejointpinisflushwiththehingeassembly.
Sizing
SizetheTADunitwhiletheclientisstanding.Itmustbeinstalledonthenarrowestpartof
thebareankle.
To size the TAD unit
1. Wraptheadjustablestraparoundtheclient’sankleandinsidethefixedstrap.
2. Wrapthefixedstraparoundtheclient’sankleandontopoftheadjustablestrap.
3. Notethesizingnumberontheadjustablestrapthatisclosesttothefixedstrap.Foran
accuratestrapmeasurement,theabsorptionsensormustbefirmlypressedagainstthe
client’sanklewitha50%depressionintotheabsorptionsensorcavity.
4. Removetheunitfromtheclient’sankle.

WhenattachingtheTADunittotheclient,keepthefollowingrequirementsinmind:
Thestrapsizingnumbersmustfaceoutward(awayfromtheleg).
TheTADunitmustbeintheuprightposition(batterytowardthebottomofthe
ankle).
To attach the TAD unit
1. WraptheTADunitaroundtheclient’sankleasyoudidinstep1oftheprevioussection.
2. Alignthemalehingewiththefiber‐opticconnectoronthefixedstrap.Pressfirmlyonthe
fixedstraptoholdbothstrapsinplace.
3. Closethehingeassemblyaroundthestrapsuntilthelockingholesarealigned.
4. Slidealockingpinintobothsidesofthehingeassembly.Thewing‐tippedendsofthe
lockingpinsmustbeinsertedfirst.Thelockingpinsshouldbeflushwiththesidesofthe
hingeassembly.

2. Plugtheroundconnectorofthepowercordintothebackofthereceiverandplugthe
otherendintothewallsocket.
3. Insertoneendofthesuppliedphonecordintothewalljackandtheotherendintooneof
thephonejacksonthebackoftheHomeBase.Thisstepisnotnecessarywhenusinga
cellularsignalconnection.Additionally,youcanconnecttheclient’stelephonetothe
HomeBasebyconnectingtheclient’sphonecordtotheunoccupiedphonejackonthe
backoftheHomeBase.
NOTE: Donotuseanextensioncordunlessabsolutelynecessary,anddonotplugthereceiverintoan
outletthatiscontrolledbyalightswitch(theclientorfamilymembermayaccidentallyturn
theswitchoff).
