Remove all cushioning materialsurrounding the product and carefully lift theproduct from the package.Retain the package and all packing materialfor possible use in reshipment or storage.Visually inspect the product and applicableaccessories for any physical damage such asscratches, loose or broken parts, or any othersign of damage that may have occurredduring shipment.NOTE: If damage is found, request an inspectionby the carrier’s agent within 48 hours of deliveryand file a claim with the carrier. A claim forequipment damage in transit is the soleresponsibility of the purchaser.

8When attaching an Badger ORION transmitterto a gas meter make sure it mounts securelyto the meter.Install the Badger ORION Transmitter andAmerican Cover PlateUse care when handling the Badger ORIONtransmitter to insure the drive pawl is notsubjected to any physical abuse. Abuse maycause this spindle to become bent,misaligned, or otherwise inoperative.Step 1: Place the Badger ORION transmitteron top of the gas meter, where the index andindex cover plate were previously removed.Place the transmitter drive pawl so it isperpendicular to the meter drive pawl.Step B: Place a new serial number tag abovethe one that is on the transmitter.Step C: Place the cover plate back on thetransmitter.Badger® ORION® Transmitter LabelIf the utility chooses to add an additionallabel, follow steps A, B, and C below. If not,go to Install in the next column.Serial NumberLabelStep A: With a needle nose pliers pull theplastic cover plate down and off.Drive PawlSpindleStep 2: When mounting a Badger ORIONtransmitter to a gas meter, make sure thetransmitter drive pawl engages the gas meterdrive pawl. These two drive pawls must matewithout causing any binding or potential fordisengagement.Test to ensure the pawls are engaged andmoving freely.Meter DrivePawlTransmitterDrive Pawlplacing transmitter onmeter incorrectly maydamage the output seal ofthe gas meter.
9Step 3: Be sure the gas INLET markings areon the same side of the meter and the lensfaces forward.Gas INLETmarkingsLens facingforwardStep 4: Place the American Index and coverplate (removed earlier) back on the Badger®ORION® transmitter.Place it so the text; TURBINE FRONT FLOWAL-600, AL-1000, AL-1400, AL-2300, andAL-5000 (or other such text); faces the frontand the index hole is centered around thetransmitter drive pawl.Place the index drivepawl perpendicular tothe transmitter drivepawl.Step 5: Place two screws, with a washer oneach, into two corners of the cover mountingplate.Use four (4) 18-18x3-1/2 supplied mountingscrews to attach the index, cover plate, andBadger ORION transmitter to the gas meter.WasherStep 7: Tighten all screws evenly with a largescrewdriver to approximately 70 inch lbs.Step 6: Index and cover has two platic sealcaps that are difficult to maneuver around withthe long bolts. Place two of the screws,without washers, through the white seal caps.Place them in the other opposite corners ofthe cover mounting plate.Program the Badger ORION TransmitterBadger uses the Radix® system to displayand process screens.Place the Radix so the optic read head alignswith the LED output port. The angle ofapproach should be about 30 degrees.Rotate Radix unit toabout 30 degreesRadix4330°
10This completes the installation of a Badger®ORION® transmitter on an American®Commercial Diaphragm and Turbine Meterwith Wire Seal Security Screw converted toseal caps.If the index mounting seal caps wereremoved, replace them with the extra capsprovided in the installation kit.Complete the Installation After programming, add seal caps to the frontand rear screws of the index cover plate. Onlythe front screw is shown below.
